Heya gents,

I've not played 40k since 8th edition, but he release of Armageddon is tempting me to come back.

I'd want an all-infantry Marine jump/assault army, so naturally BA seem like the logical choice.

I want to avoid spam so I am limiting myself to 10 models of anything max, whether to be run as a single squad or two of 5. Where I can, I'd also like to avoid spamming the same characters.

So far, I think I'd go with:

  • Commander Dante leading 10 Vanguard Vets (making the assumption here that VV will be available in squads of 10 when the new Marine dex drops)
  • Jump Captain leading 6 Sang Guard (would much rather have Dane there but his +1 to hit is kind of wasted with them)
  • Jump Chaplain leading 10 Jump Intercessors
  • Lemartes or Astorath leading 10 Jump DC

So, question:

  1. Is my plan workable or am I going to get ass-blasted every time?
  2. What should I use to fill up my list to 2k?
  3. Which Detachment(s) should I go with?

Thanks in advance!

Nah you'll be fine. If someone bring a meta list you might have some trouble but overall I think jump units are gonna do good on 11th rules due to how fly works, and melee in general being a go to need for objective clearing.

I would focus on getting some armor to give you some good shooting; either a repulsor or some gladiators.  Or even some Dreads; anything that will let you reach out and touch something from a distance so that you aren't fully reliant on making charges for do damage.

LAG is the automatic go to as you have a lot of melee, but the Angelic Inheritors is also probably worth looking at due to having everything led. Also possible to do the Legacy of Grace + The Angelic Host for uppy downy shenanigans.

I'd really rather stay away from tanks if at all possible. Are Devastators a possible option?

Any play with Gladius TF if I'm going to go with a mix of shooty and fighty units?

I’m in the same boat as you coming back into the game. For me the layoff has been since early 7th. I have brought out old devastator squads in some games and been ok. I see a lot of chatter that says it seems like tactical squads and dev squads are likely to be written out of this edition for competitive play.
