Lord_Ikka
Goonhammer/Tabletop Battles just released their reviews of all the new Necromunda stuff. Antarius
I'm really not crazy about the art they showed off for the new edition, but I guess it's commendable that they seem to have a unified art direction. Dosjetka
It's been a while since I've organised a Necromunda campaign locally: looks like I know what I'll be busy with this September-October. :D The Goonhammer review is giving positive signals, to me at least. I'll be glad to have all the relevant materials in-hand in a couple of weeks. Captain Idaho
Leaks seems to be assuaging to my worries which is good. I like most rebalancing efforts in the weapons. I really like that even power weapons have flat strength of user, which means a T4 model is really useful now. Like my Arms Master. Who I might give a Full Servo harness for T5! Only things I'm upset about is my Wrecker with dual plasma pistol is illegal unless I pay at the trading post, which wouldn't be awful if it wasn't for the fact they're rarer AND the Wrecker only hits on a 5+ instead of 4+. This is fairly terminal for what I considered a well painted model too RIP Edited Saturday at 05:31 PM by Captain Idaho ThaneOfTas, Gamiel, Xenith and 3 others 1 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388170-necromunda-new-edition/page/7/#findComment-6181333 Share on other sites

I hadn't noticed that the Arms Master had improved toughness, good catch. My Arms Master will be pleased! I like almost all of the rules changes although I am struggling to get my head around Ammo checks. I have a Gang Queen with a combi-Bolter/Needler and it's taken me about 30 minutes to work out how the weapon works with the new Ammo rules! Rapid Fire (1), Ammo (3+), Scarce (4+) and Combi hasn't exactly streamlined how the weapon works Overall though I'm really happy with the general direction the game has gone in.....especially the no more gaming the rules to bottle out and spoil a good game. Gorgoff
Vehicle rules sound terrible tbh but otherwise they seemed to have made some good changes. Bottle test meaning now that only one dude runs away is boring though. I always preferred that the gang just looses and runs away completely. Game over. Models don't get really captured anymore is also boring. I hope (against hope) that people will still use the now optional rules in the book like stray fire or that models shoot the next visible target. Otherwise we're is the point? Captain Idaho
Been thinking about the leaks... maybe I can use a Wrecker, level him up BS early and then get the 2 plasma pistols after like 3 or 4 games? Silvereyes
I know I should wait until the Core Book arrives, but I really want to try and clarify how Lethality and Damage (X) works. So, a Juve with 1 Wound, is shot by a gun with 1 Lethality. It has no keywords, but presumably, all guns have Damage (1) by default, unless overwritten if it says Damage (2) or Damage (3) etc? So it loses 1 Wound, taking it to 0 Wounds. Because the gun is 1 Lethality, you roll 1 injury die. If a Champion with 3 Wounds is shot by a gun with 3 Lethality, but no keywords, it only loses 1 Wound, since it still Damage (1)? It's only when the Champion is brought down to 0 Wounds, then they have to roll 3 injury dice, and the worst result is applied? Likewise, a Juve with 1 Wound is shot by a gun with 1 Lethality, but Damage (3). It would still only mean losing 1 Wound and rolling 1 injury die, the extra damage doesn't do anything. Am I getting this right? Lethality dictates number of injury dice when a model reaches 0 Wounds, Damage dictates number of Wounds removed but doesn't effect the number of injury dice? Antarius
And we’re already getting the “House of…” books. I don’t know whether to or I mean, they’re probably fine -ish. But there goes any hope of an edition where you actually have a chance of knowing what’s going on without buying 10 books. The “journals” format would be okay, if they kept it to things like special campaigns, environments and so on, but Necromunda gangs really, really don’t need codexes. Depends on the content really but warhammer in general suffers from “too many books” bloat. From what I understand only the 3 mainbooks are required for play. The journals are “optional “ rules but of course will be wanted for completeness, especially for gangs that you play. Based on pricing from tow and aos it looks like they’ll be priced under $40 cad but that is still pricey if you want to get them all. Antarius
Yeah, I think it’s an olay format for expansion stuff, honestly. It’s just the “No no, my Escher gang isn’t the Escher gang from your book, it’s an XYZ Escher Gang with YZX weapons and the ZYX special rule”-effect that I’m not keen on. Captain Idaho
Just caught up with the news. I'm down with the Journals being an essential extra to the base rules, simply to add much needed flavour... ...I'm surprised it's going to be drip fed to us though. I've got friends who enjoy a campaign but if a bunch of us haven't got a Journal whilst some do, it'll be a difficult sell to start the campaign. After all, why play with the base gang of Cawdor whilst the Escher gang gets new skills, weapons and even variant gang lists? Perhaps it is unreasonable to expect GW to release the 6 Houses simultaneously, though I think a mulit-million dollar company can and should do such things. After engaging with Magic the Gathering, we can see what a quality release schedule is and how it is kept to. The Final Fantasy commander decks weren't released one at a time, they ALL came out simultaneously alongside the starter boxes and ALL the booster support cards. A complete and total release. Anyways... I'm happy with the content of the Journals, going by what appears to be in them with the contents page teaser. I wonder just what Orlocks will get as their variant gangs. Lots of explosives, but that's already a thing surely? So maybe a heavy augmented theme since they're working as miners, so some sort of variant servo harness rules perhaps? The 2nd variant for Orlocks? Likely a Wrecker theme with gang leaders and champions? Tempting as a principle and likely. The issue is, all these rules will be written, they could have just released all the rules at the outset, then release models like they used to. But they are too pearl clutchy about STLs and :cuss:. I would honestly think, outside of competitive 40k, people who are gonna use STLs or 3rd party are going to use them no matter what. Same as people that are going to buy the plastic, will just buy the plastic. As you noted it sucks if you want to start a campaign and most of the people are like 'ah so when will my faction drop'. Hell if they gave you a road map of when would drop when, that would be fine, but doesn't align with GW's FOMO marketing bent. Antarius Posted yesterday at 06:01 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:01 AM Perhaps somewhat cynically, but my main gripe with the gang variants (apart from “why?”) is that the nature of humans, games and (especially) nerds being what they are, if one of the gang variants in the journal is perceived as “optimal” that’s just going to be the one that gets played (and the more gang variants, the more different rules interactions and therefor, the bigger chance that something will be more or less unglued). So, while it is admittedly a bit cynical, I don’t really see these gang variants as something that will create variation, so much as DLC that will skew the game and make it more difficult to parse what’s going on with the different gangs. Journals with specific campaigns, environments, scenarios, wandering monster, generally available optional equipment etc. would have been a good idea. This, not so much. This. If it wasn't separated out into Journals, it'd be releasing in a single book every year or so anyway. If you're hungrily collecting every Journal it probably does work out more expensive, but being able to pick-and-choose rather than forking out for a £35-£45 book you're only using the 1-2 pages of rules relevant to your chosen faction anyway I think probably does do better for most peoples wallets overall - the people who try and pick up everything put to print are ultimately the minority, I think. I know we tend to get angry at whatever route GW has chosen to go down in the present, but I do remember a lot of people (generally speaking, not just in Necromunda) who got upset about that 'I'm only buying this for 1-2 pages' side of things. I do acknowledge Necromunda is a bit different in that a lot of N17's books were already faction (well, Gang) specific supplements, though there were a fair few like Outlands, Peril and Desolation, etc which were broader. That and the afore mentioned momentum that's behind a range when things are coming out on the regular and dodging the inevitable "is X game dead?" because it's not on 40k's release schedule.
