I would hesitate to ever label one unit better than another: they are different tools for different jobs.

I am very much an advocate for Land Raiders in general, though I don't have one for my Custodes. They are tough and can act like a battle tank and give Custodes some high strength shooting. The assault ramps is also a boon to getting aggressive combat units into your opponent's face early.

The Coronus's guns means is much more of an anti-infantry/anti-light vehicle unit, but it's ability to grant re-rolls to wound in shooting if the disembarking unit shoots at the same target it did is a potentially useful way to help a custodes unit punch up into a tougher target. But unlike the land raider you won't be able to move the tank, disembark the unit, and charge with them in the same turn..

One thing to consider is that the 11th ed Custodes codex is rumoured to be one of the first, possibly later this year or early next. There is always the possibility Land Raiders go to Legends when it comes out, which shouldn't be an issue if you and your usual opponents happily use legends rules.

I think your decision should be based on a) which model do you think is cooler (rules are temporary, models are forever), and b) what unit do you want to travel in it and which one would support what you want that unit to do in game?

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate the help.

I'm terrible at list building, because I started this hobby building Armoured Companies for Imperial Guard... and then Knights....

So when I look at the Custodes I think:

Could I build a Solar Spearhead Detachment where everybody is either a tank or mounted in an APC?

But, I'm leaning towards the Coronus because it looks like it belongs in the army.

(The only bit that will look different is the Deimos Rhino the Sisters of Silence ride in).
