Brother Raul
Hail Brothers and Sisters, Just thought I'd make a quick post to share some early observations for the 9th legion in 11th. Detachments will probably get shaken up with codexes but they really are shaping scoring in 11th. RCO & purge the foe is quite strong. Bigger units particulary do well here as it will help with scoring. Taking a lot of aggressive jump pack units and really breaking lines to get into the back field will score well. Secondaries will reward you for aggresive play. LAG & Take and Hold is also actually quite strong too, which suprised me. Getting one more objective then the opposition scores well enough to win most games. Landraiders and Repulsors, assault terminators, librarians and Sang Priests are very strong here. Even Gravis armour helps with Take and Hold as the extra toughness and wounds works well sitting on objectives. 10 Intercessors with a 4+ Librarian are even good, and can counter charge and out shoot weaker units. The trick with Take and Hold is keep your SG and death company back until you take the objectives with 'troop' types. Then use them to charge the stuff assaulting your objectives. Melta and HB erradicators on an objective are very good at holding too. Baal predators are strong in both and so are our DC dreads. The Baal in take and hold is very strong and very interested to see if we keep it. Land raiders with heavy flamers too. The Ork burna's new profile is a good indicator of where flammers are headed in 11th, a set number of attacks and blast seems thematic (better against hordes). Infernus marines got a 5 point hike and think they might end up and auto include in both RCO and Take and hold. Battleshock now being ongoing is very big. You roll each turn now to recover and Red rampage must be used very wisely. RCO has these issues as well as the 1+ attack on the charge and the more ongoing combats in 11th mean you get a sugar hit on the charge but potentially much worse in ongoing combats. The new rotating order on ongoing combats is very important, and one must pay attention to this similar to picking which combats go first to avoid interupts (if you pick the wrong one first you will take more damage). Also some detachments are looking quite promising. The Librarian conclave suits Take and hold and RCO with some great buffs for increasing threat range as well as substituting the +2 strength we'd get from LAG. Its built for assault terminators and the sustained hits 1 on thunder hammers from the Librarian is 'swear dodge filter' excellent. Also as a cheeky detachment orbital assault force can be good for us. Particulary those who enjoyed Matt Ward's deepstriking landraiders in 5th. I've used a landraider with a squad of melta erradicators, a lancer and Balliatus dreadnaught. A DC dread or repulsor full or terminators or hellblasters as well could be hilarious for somebody. Let me know of I've missed anything and best of luck in 11th. Also just saw there is a flare with banner of the month. Good timing as have a 1st and a 2nd company banner on the painting desk. Keep an eye out for these. Ash
Like your post, all good points. Dante is extra useful now battle shock means something and he forces tests on a minus 1. Doesn't happen all the time but often enough to bother opponents. Where he really shines is giving the unit he's attached to plus 1' to advance and charge. I'll often roll advance every time I move one of my heavy hitters and theres no penalty to BA players as they can roll advance, measure and decide whether a charge is on or not. Dante giving an extra 2" of movement is priceless. I hardly ever shoot my main melee units. Being able to give out a minus 3" to detection range from cover when wholly inside a terrain piece with "go to ground" is life-giving. I've only run LAG and take and hold so far but I've enjoyed either dumping a big blob of terminators or Bladeguard on centre objective then positioning a DC or SG unit hidden to counter charge. Go to ground gives you a 12" detection range the scoring unit can't be shot until whatever is hunting them is well within charge range of the jump pack units. I run two Flamer Baals and move them up aggressively on the flanks. Not much comes near them and they die but they die after dominating objectives for 2 maybe 3 turns. Positioning a combo weapon Ltn on an objective is good with lone op once again with a Jump Infantry body guard to Heroic Intervene into whatever tries to tag him. He's a bait and switch guy. Mephiston is really really good. Once again lone op. I don't take him for what he does in combat. I take him for his resilience, it takes a lot to get him off an objective. Inquisitor_Lensoven
You mentioned basically every gravis squad but HIs in take and hold, and I imagine they’d work even better than the others because of their special rule. attach a captain for a little bit of extra melee punch, and you have a unit that is daunting to deal with even at minimum numbers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388204-ba-11th-edition-observations-so-far/#findComment-6179833 Share on other sites
Indy Techwisp
What's the thoughts on BA's use of the new Vengeful Hosts Detachment? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388204-ba-11th-edition-observations-so-far/#findComment-6179935 Share on other sites

I looks good but it needs a 2DP Detachment to pair it with in normal sized games. I can see it working well with Stormlance but I am not sure if it works well enough to make up for the loss of hitting power we miss from LAG or RCO.
