Notable absence of Nemesis/Kraken/Grav/Grenades/Combi-Bolters probably points to another upgrade box eventually, if they don't end up doing a bespoke Recon/Seeker kit anyway.

I was super excited when I saw the thread title but the actual combi-weapons themselves, not a fan.

You'll have to forgive me as I'm not up to date with rules but aren't most Combi-weapons still single use on the special weapon? Makes me think you don't need as much space dedicated on these to that then.

Shotguns are alright.

I'll likely be using third party bits.

These are really terrible and kind of nonsensical. Why do they have charging handles that are curved downwards like bolt action rifles? I hate that shotgun, that's a genuinely awful design. I'll stick to Scout squad and Necromunda Enforcer shotguns. However I can't deny the conversion potential of these bits to make proper combi, weapons. Maybe bullpup bolter ones like Azrael's original gun.

Edit: What even is this bolter component? It has a bolt handle like the rifle Exodus has, but it also has the AR-15 style charging handle of the Tigrus pattern bolter. The people at the design studio have lost their minds.

I really like them.  They look advanced, compact and similar in size to a legionary bolter, which is how i think combi-weapons should be.  40k combi's look too bulky.

To me the magazine looks low capacity and the bolter part of the gun looks really primitive. The bolt handle on the side makes it seem like the designer thought the bolter component of a combi-weapon was a single shot thing. It makes me think of the South Korean copy of the OICW prototype with it's bolt action grenade launcher. The muzzles of the bolter part are inconsistent across variants of the gun even though these should be based on the same modular thing. The plasma variant doesn't have the little optic thingy above the barrel and the volkite/melta variants have a completely different barrel. It's a mess.

Shotguns are fine.

Don't care for the combi weapons at all though. The top loaded magazine is something I dont care for regardless of the settin. Much prefer the FW combi weapons of days gone by

GW, what the bloody hell is that? They are horrific! Now I don't mind a top entry magazine (love the Bren gun) but this is a strange mix of designs and I'm not about it at all, even the shotguns aren't doing it for me.

Also we had to wait over six years for this? I'd rather keep waiting to be honest....

Volkite and Plasma are barely recognisable as such, having a large glowy part is the most appealing aspect. The smooth ergonomic design language of the bottom half clashes with the anachronistic top loader and blocky upper casing. It  feels like the designers have been struggling to reconcile the classic quirky HH design language with the smoother more modern designs they've been edging towards since 2nd. I feel like they used to get the balance perfect back in 1st, but recently there's been way too many misses for core kits. These would be fine if they were a one off to add a bit of unique flavour to a few models, but as the main source of several popular weapons they're completely unsuitable. They need to go back to the drawing board with what they're doing with the HH aesthetic, it's just been so mixed in terms of reception for releases.

I think they are ok but not a fan of the top loading bolter mag. I do like the single hand shotgun.

I would like a sprue of alternative hands to be honest, stuff like pointing hands and bits that you can't get in most kits.

One of the biggest frustrations is that or having all chainswords held in one hand and bolt pistols in the other with no option to switch them over.

I love these, I think they look great! Not 100% on the magazines on the top, and i may cut those off, but these look fantastic and I am excited to get these for my armies! And you get so many! One or two boxes will sort out the majority of my legions!

The shotguns are cool, the combi-bolters really aren't great. They're too tacticool, not clearly any one style of bolter, and the magazines all being tiny top-loading ones is a shame - I'm more of a boxy/drum mag combi-bolter guy, like the ones the old Sternguard kit had. It's a shame because they have great drum-mag bolters for the Mk III Breacher squad. I like that they've given people one-handed varieties though, and the pouches are nice.

Very, very surprised to see so much negativity around the combi-weapons.

The traditional 40k combi-weapons are absolutely the worst-looking weapon design in the entire setting. These are still a little awkward but they're a dramatic improvement. The bolter is already a bit too tall of a weapon - stacking another weapon on top of it looks awful.

This is basically what all primaris weapons are built upon. Backside, handle and magwell stay the same, but rest of the gun changes. They slap on different mag and scope for stalker, plasma canisters and front for plasma gun, boxmag and boltrifle front for other.

Modularity tacticool from real life, now in 40k.

All of these seem like a good idea on paper, but they look kinda... bland? Too modern in horus heresy? The weapons looks are too long, squashed or clumped together via one weapon making as minimal as possible. Cannot say if it´s "true scale" issue or why do these look something designed for primaris, rather then horus heresy?

The Tactical Squad combi-weapons aren't all that top heavy or big in comparison to the basic Godwyn bolter that comes in that box.

Arguably modularity in the Space Marine range was always there with the Rhino chassis vehicles all having parts commonality. I don't enjoy Primaris guns for the most part, but I enjoy crazy guns like Azrael's combi-plasma from this Black Library cover and that predates Primaris Marines by 4 years.

I think it's to draw a through line from the Heresy combi-weapons to how they redid the Primaris ones, for example the ones they gave the Sternguard.

I'm really happy to see another upgrade pack, for a range of armour sets that has been designed around modularity we've had disappointingly few upgrade sets over the last 4 years (though it has thankfully sped up a little since 3rd dropped). I like the shotguns. Hopefully we're not waiting too long to see more, I'd be very keen for a Recon/Seeker sprue
