Really odd that Inceptors went to 3 models per squad max for non vanilla chapters.. I can't even imagine what that's supposed to mean..

Think I saw it was just for Dark Angels, and they got a point nerf too.

This was quite a ridiculous update for sure.

wha??

just checked the app and that still allows 6 (even after updating the app)

BT are also limited to 3 man inceptor squads on the MFM, right now I am just going to assume it's an error.

I wouldn't get too attached to anything,  it's all going to change every quarter or whatever anyway.

Actually, the first three months will have monthly updates, after which they switch back to the quarterly rhythm.

Which means the big sweeping overcorrections and double and triple nerfs are way too much anyway since they could actively get away with light touches.

I doubt it's part of the update, but I looked through the Eldar Legends section and saw the rules for the Phoenix Bomber. Good grief, what did they do to this thing? The missile launcher array is utterly miserable, and the vehicle it 175 points. Two missile pods on a dedicated ground attack aircraft can old fart out D6 shots plus the bonus for blast? It's barely more powerful than a Falcon with an extra Shuriken Cannon bolted on. The Forge World tax lives on. No wonder this kit has been languishing in my pile of shame for so long.

Spoiler

This is great news.  I’ve just looked at it and it’s nearly perfect.  You can even use the Command bunker whilst in War Journal.  The only issue I see is that you get to see your mission once in the process and I can’t find a way to reference it during the game…

That is my guess since the change to the war journal weren't in this morning's update.

At least its good to see that they do in fact plan to bring the older CPs back.

Where did you see that Focslain?

Yeah, ita not bad, few little bugs to iron out though. If you don't have the codex unlocked, you can't view the army rule from the war journal (but it is visible from the combat patrol section), and as you said, the mission scoring only being visible from the war journal is a bit odd. The number of datasheets in each combat patrol has been added to the detachment rules too which is nice, previously we had to click into the datasheets one by one.

Number of datasheets added to detachment rules…?  What does that do/mean?

In the detachment rules for each combat patrol, there is a list of datasheets for each unit in the combat patrol. Previously that wasn't there, you had to click into the datasheets section and go into each datasheet to see what it contained.

In the now re-released article, second paragraph of the Upcoming Combat Patrol Support section

Quote

There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.

Also just messed a little with the warjournal. We do now have our own special missions.

Worth noting that since 1 T'au detachment has increased from 2DP to 3DP, T'au now have 7 detachments, but only 8 legal combinations. Which is the lowest of anyone, barring the Imperial Agents and the Deathwatch by themselves I believe.

I'm sorry, but I'm really not liking force dispositions. Purge the Foe is being taken too much, so a bunch of detachments have to go up in points because of it? It just feels backwards to me, the notion of choosing a detachment to determine your mission type. In 10th, I would choose a detachment for how I wanted my army to play, not because of how it would determine the mission. Just seems very limiting, and a bizarre balancing mechanic. My only hope is that maybe by the time we get next year's Chapter Approved deck, they just sever the tie between force disposition and detachments, and you just choose what you want to play.

Deathwatch by themselves have exactly as many combos as codex compliant LSM plus their 3dp unique Detachment.

Feedback is that they play significantly better outside of it because of the sheet flexibility KillTeams have.

I mean, yes, they benefit from being Space Marines. But just a point of how unsupported they are by themselves, and seemingly only exist because the fans complained for GW to walk it back. If Deathwatch is to continue to exist as a sub-faction, there really is no excuse to get a few new detachments.

This is another example of tournament prevalence dominating the scene. They did say that being restricted to the specific force disposition was for tournaments and that when you're just playing a casual game, you can decide to just play whatever disposition you want. However, a lot of people tend to take the tournament rules as gospel (see the unnecessary aversion to Legends as a great example) so it really depends on whom you're playing against.

Honestly, I think it's both playstyle and army dependent. Purge is the "easy" one because it's just kill things for the most part and you don't have to think about it. I find Take And Hold works best for my playstyle, especially in Kroot which does have that as their disposition, but just in general for the way I like to design armies and play the game.

I'm still only a couple games in, so time will tell, but for now, I quite like the varied dispositions and missions that it makes. They've been ending up much closer on average then my 10th games.

Gotcha, yeah, that’s a much easier way to assemble your figures.

I’m struggling to find a single permissible detachment for Space marines at 1000 points.

You can do whatever you want at 1k.

@DemonGSides how do you mean?  If I’m using the app to make an army, War journal and command bunker it limits you to 2 points for a detachment etc.

The error I was getting was where I had made a 500 points combat ptrol and it was saying my force disposition wasn’t allowed for some reason.

They've already said that you can use whatever detatchment you want at 1k, because people lost their minds over not being able to run LAG at 1k.  So now it doesn't matter, and any proscriptions for DP costs stuff should be siloed within Competitive Play (AKA playing at 2k points against matched opponents).

The app will take time to update to that change, so for now, just do what makes you happy.  They've said that's fine.

There was an article at some point where GW changed the “rules so you could take a 3DP, 2 DP, or 2x1 D detachment(s) but I don’t think it made its way to any match play/tournament play documents. The app usually reflects the match play/tournament play documents.

At least I haven’t seen a reference outside the article.

Please don't exaggerate the topic. Just because a handful of ppl (including me) in this forum lamented about not being able to take the signature detachment in a 1k game (which I play regularly) you can hardly tell that "loosing our minds".

I also find it irritating, that you can't find this rule anywhere right now.
