Sade
Hi everyone! I've been working for the past few months on a mobile app that combines an in-game companion and Army Builder for tabletop wargames. My goal is to create something modern, fast, and intuitive that helps both before and during a game. It lets you build army lists, quickly access unit profiles and equipment, track units, preview the outcome of actions, calculate hit probabilities, roll dice automatically (optional), create custom rules, test army lists, and much more. I'm developing this project on my own, and my goal is to build the tool I wish we'd had when I first discovered the hobby. The idea actually came from my very first Horus Heresy game. Two friends introduced me to the game, and we spent nearly five hours playing... only 3 turns. They were constantly flipping through rulebooks and checking profiles, and it really broke the flow of the game. By the end, we had spent more time looking for information than actually playing. I've attached a few screenshots so you can get an idea of what the project currently looks like. Here are a few examples of what you can create and recreate with the app : I'd really appreciate some feedback from the community: - Do you think an app like this could replace the tools you currently use? Why or why not? - If so, what business model would you find acceptable? One-time purchase / Freemium (and at what price?) Monthly subscription (and at what price?) Or would you simply not pay for this type of app? I'd love to hear your thoughts, even if they're critical. Any feedback will help me make the app better. MARK0SIAN
Hi, I’m always up for an app that speeds up or streamlines games and list building. However, imgur isn’t viewable in the UK so unfortunately I can’t see any of the images. Good luck with it though, my main game is Horus Heresy so if you can make that smoother then thumbs up! In terms of business model, I would pay for a decent app but it would have to be low. For example Newrecruit’s lowest tier is £29 per year which is too steep for me considering how much time I actually have to play. If I was playing much more regularly it would probably be worth it but not currently. Sade
Thank you for your reply! I've updated the image URLs. Does cloudinary work for you ? I don't think a subscription is the right solution either, i'm rather leaning toward one-time purchase. My goal is not to create yet another Army Builder, but a complete companion app that keeps growing over time with more and more features. For example, I'm currently developing a Bluetooth room system so players can join the same game session with their own armies. Once everyone is connected, you'll be able to quickly check your opponent's units, markers, and even preview the outcome of actions before resolving them. Players will also be able to choose how automated they want the experience to be. If you prefer rolling your own dice, that's perfectly fine. If you'd rather have the app handle dice rolls and certain actions automatically, you can enable those options instead. Ultimately, my goal is not only to make games smoother and more enjoyable, but also to make tabletop wargaming more approachable for new players and help bring people together around the hobby. MARK0SIAN
New images work fine! Looks good. I’d definitely rather do a one-time purchase over a subscription Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388280-looking-for-feedback-on-a-new-army-builder-game-companion/#findComment-6180356 Share on other sites
Sade
Thank you! I'm leaning towards a one-time purchase as well. My goal is to keep adding enough value that people feel they're getting a complete companion app rather than just another Army Builder. I'm also curious to know what features you think would make an app like this worth buying ?
