To prevent other Chapters and the INQUISITION from asking inconvenient questions, how about naming one Cohort the "Iron Cohort," and its Centuries "Iron Centuries,"- the leaders will have their ranks and titles appropriately amended- thus identifying them as vehicle crews and support personnel under the leadership of the Chapter's Master of the Forge (Chief Techmarine), and forcing others to NOT count these Marines?

 

The other Cohorts can be identified as "Blood" (Reserve) and "Bone" (Veterans), or "Silver" and "Gold," or whichever designation you think is appropriate.

I belive I already addressed that without needing special names/designations:

 

"  Only the 1st and 2nd Cohorts are combat effective units. The 3rd Cohort is made up entirely of recruits and initiati in various stages of training and transformation into full Astartes. This Cohort also includes specialists in training. The Majority of the Cadre are either Veteran Sergeants or Marines who have been injured in a manner that they are no longer fully combat capible or have a reduced capability in the Dominus's eye. These Cadre do not take their assignment as an insult, in fact in the Warborn, training the next generation of warriors is considered a great honor.

 

   The Warborn use this formation because of their constant crusade like conflicts against terrors from the void space beyond the Galactic boundaries of the Imperium.  This allows them to remain at near full strength despite the often-high casualty rate they face against the terrors of the void. Because of their non-codex complaint size, the few times their operational strength has been called into question, The Warborn have been quick to cite the dreaded codex exemption on crusade forces and use its own loophole to their advantage. They Make it clear to any who do inquire that standing as a Bastion force against the void is a never-ending mission and thus a crusade. There constant conflicts and losses demand their ability to refit and rearm, be unincumbered. This is why they remain at force numbers above the codex limit."

 

The Warborn are an incredibly isolated Chapter and on thier own avoid any contact with other Imperial forces Especially Inquisitors and other Marines (with the exception of the death Spectres), whenever they can. Not out of fear etc...solely because they know they dont "play well with others" and choose to fight how and where they see fit. But mainly because the duty they were charged with in defending the Ghoul Stars from Xenos incursions take up the majority of their time.  I dont think there is a need for special names etc. If the very rare Inquisitor pokes around they will simply tell them the Third Cohort is where ALL the support and non direct combat forces are assigned. They would have NO requirement to give them anymore than that. As far as other Marine chapters go, the Warborn would look at them and tell them to Kindly piss off, we dont answer to you. Given their mission, their "crusade" justification and their Isolation I just dont see this being an issue at all. Their numbers exceed because they are constantly crusading in the Ghoul Stars to protect the Imperium from external Xenos threats.

So, I’ve finished reading your lore. I really like it—especially the way they consider themselves the true "successors" of the 13th Legion.

Thank you! I am trying to make them resentful and divergent but still loyal and secretly trying to impress Guilliman although they will never admit it. The one Son that always feels forgotten kind of vibe, while also staying as much as I can within established lore.
