Swap Firstborn to CSM? How many of us?

Seriously considering hopping my Firstborn to CSM without changing anything- how many are looking at this?

If they were Dark Angels, all you need to do is buy a Cypher model and your army is complete! 

 

In all seriousness... would you paint over or chop up your Chapter symbols to run them as Renegades? 

 

Otherwise, it's a little confusing for your opponent when you drop down an Ultramarines army and say, "This is a Chaos army."

What is so confusing about that? There are probably a fair number of people who would not be at all surprised to find out that the smug Ultramarines have been corrupted by the ruinous powers (well, at least I would not be).

 

If the most noble legion of Emperor's Children could be corrupted by Slaanesh, I don't see anything that would make Ultramarines immune to the whispers from the warp and their temptations.

The OP said he was going to plop down his Firstborn army on the table as a Chaos army...

If I saw an Ultramarine/Blood Angels/whatever first born army across the table, I'd just assume they were playing with Legends... not a Chaos army.

 

I was suggesting some visual changes to make it easier to differentiate Imperial to Chaos.

You could just paint a few panels red, or back in the day chisel up the Imperial iconography and paint scarlet saltires across the shoulders and hands and stuff, or, alternatively, add some CSM models - which could be in any colour - as your new 'command' unit.

To me, paint jobs and iconography would be irrelevant. If you ran through the faction rules before the game  that would be fine. The area where it would be more confusing would be wargear as there’s a several things loyalists have access to that csm don’t and vice versa, as well as several units like centurions.

 

In my mind You’d have to be really clear about what was what and give your opponent some leeway if they misunderstood or misremembered what was what in your army. 
 

I used to be much more concerned about proxies and stand ins but since then GW themselves have shown astounding contempt for some of the armies their customers have created and so I don’t feel beholden to those considerations anymore. This hobby is too expensive and time consuming to expect people to stay up to date with whatever GW have decided is flavour of the month.

You either have a gentleman's agreement with whoever you're playing with or you do this to your miniatures. I honestly couldn't stomach doing this to my boys.

Reference to your question yes I have considered this option. I dont have much of a communuty where I am, and the mast edition I really enjoyed was 7th, so I largeky play lonelyhammer if Im not painting or assembling

 

Seeing as Im still building my firstborn army, documented on my dakka blog, and becayse I usually play akone anyways, its nit such an issue, and I akso think it majes for interestibg experimentation

 

Im sad, but not upset, I just know Ill try and convinve who I can to try 7th witg me, or get some dnd players to be interested in taking oart in a narrative camoaugn lol

 

If not Ill just run the narrative camoaign witg me, myself, I and the fellow whos body I inhabit

 

Regarfing not changing anythibg I couldnt say, I was already working on a "loyalist renegade" chaoter do soent alot of time with field repaired or inherited armor of different marks, and a custom colir scheme which ended up untinetionally very similar to red corsairs!
