Lord Marshal Posted yesterday at 01:58 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:58 PM (edited) Gee Bill, how come James Workshop lets you have two reveals? Vanguard Veterans Quote "Vanguard Veterans are each equipped with master-crafted power weapons, and the new kit comes with a fine selection – five swords* and three axes. The squad sergeant gets their pick between an ornate relic weapon, a thunder hammer, or a power fist, and they – and two other veterans per five-man squad – can also swipe plasma pistols from the Chapter armoury. You’ll have no shortage of distinct veterans either, as each kit comes with an impressive 19 different heads, split between different armour marks** and a complement of helmetless heroes." Intercessor Squad Quote "Much like their Ork Boyz counterparts, the new Intercessors kit is all about customisation. All 10 of the bodies can use any of the arms in the kit, split between 10 two-handed bolt rifles – two with auxiliary grenade launchers – three one-handed versions, four left arms pointing or holding things, and a choice of chainsword, power sword, or power fist for the sergeant. There’s also a wealth of cosmetic accessories and head options to go around, continuing the design philosophy from the Armageddon miniatures by mixing older helmets and armour parts into the more modern and regimented Mk X Tacticus suits. You even get the top half of a helmet to hang off the belt, which you’ll know comes off if you’ve seen the Armouring of a Space Marine video." redmapa Posted yesterday at 02:20 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:20 PM These look incredibly boring, we have already seen these designs for the last decade and their updates add nothing new, its just Intercessors and slightly more blinged up assault intercessors, like what exactly am I supposed to be excited about? Im not gonna buy these new VanVets when I can just buy an Assault Intercessor kit, mix it with the Sword Brethren weapons that are left over and add some storm shields and the result wont be too far off from the actual VanVets kit. So far the only thing that has gotten me excited is the new Speeder so Im just going to wait for it to release on its own, the rest has been a big let down. I hope the rumored Venerable Dread isnt just a fancier Redemptor and they do something with it like a new Sarcophagus and weapons, hell they could just add a couple of different plates for Librarian or Chaplain dreads but my expectations for it are very low. Also its interesting that they say the Vanguard Vets have COMBAT shields and not STORM shields, could be a WarCom error but its the second time they write it like that so maybe its an actual combat shield to differentiate them from Bladeguard vets. No lightning claws on vanguards, not big changes in tacticools. ZeroWolf
So, to clarify, is there anything new in these reveals that we weren't already aware of? If not I don't know why they got a reveal article when they could have shown off something that might have generated more hype, like the ole venerable (assuming the rumours are true of course) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388454-multi-part-intercessors-vanguard-veterans/#findComment-6184976 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Without significant changes I can't really see the point of the Intercessors. One thing if GW ever read this, please add an alternative slot in leg without the standing on the rock. So many times I look at a kit and think yeah I will get that to find that I am hamstrung when it comes to basing and be a simple way to mix things up. Failing that have the rock a separate piece so we can swap it out for pipes or something. Rhavien
Well well. So we not only got the inferior load out within the Armageddon box, but you also lack one plasma pistol too, if there would be a reason not to take the shields. Crimson Longinus
The kits look nice and the Intercessors are a definite improvement overall. Sad that they seemed to have completely lost the box magazines though; I hoped they'd mix the different styles. Also, a bit silly that the text says how they come with all these alternate helmets, yet in the picture they decide to show absolutely zero of them. Weird choice, given that the retrostyle bits is basically the only selling point this kit has! And unsurprisingly but still a bit disappointingly, the loadout the Armageddon Vanguard have seems to be subpar, and now I at minimum need to scavenge some primaris plasma pistols from somewhere. apologist and DarkChaplain 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388454-multi-part-intercessors-vanguard-veterans/#findComment-6184989 Share on other sites
Lord Nord in Gravis Armour
Not a "model" issue, but I'm still disappointed that after nearly a decade AND occurring in tandem with the retirement of the Tactical squad, they didn't add at least one heavy and/or special weapon to the most ubiquitous squad in the Astartes lineup. Not exactly doing much to counter the allegations of "bland" that have been targeting the Primaris - and the original Intercessor squad in particular - since 2017. And yeah, ALL of the Sergeant options from the Assault Intercessor squad should have been included here as well, though if they're still allowed to take the Hand Flamer and Thunder Hammer it's not the worst thing ever that they didn't get an additional sculpt here. The one that absolutely needed a second and easily available alternative was the Power Fist and there IS a new one of those in this kit (not that the version in the Assault Intercessor kit is BAD, it's just so distinctive that a regular closed-fist alternative was necessary). Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'm giving this a "meh." Nephaston
Yeah, gotta echo some of the assessments here; would've loved some claws or maybe a mix of "heavy" melee weapons on the vanguards and maybe a look at those alternative bits on the Intercessor kit. Love me a good back banner though. They're serviceable. Orange Knight
These Intercessors are probably the best basic Marine troops have ever looked. The kit isn't wildly different from before but it IS better, and there will be some decent variety due to how the arms work now. Vanguard with shields do look better. Do we have a confirmation whether they have storm or combat shields (they look like storm shields to me)? I still think that if Vanguard have a 4+ invul and damage 2 weapons they would end up being the best combat infantry unit... ShibeKing
I will always prefer the old Intercessors where they all look the same. I'm weird. Glad I stocked up over the last almost 10 years. I do think this is a step in the right direction for everyone else though. Having more variety in our kits is always a good thing... especially when they keep raising the prices! I like the Vanguard Veterans a lot. Don't really care for the jumping off of a conveniently shaped rock/debris thing they all have. We don't need them ALL to be jumping off of something, the jump pack implies they can fly. Robbienw
The Intercessors are poor. So many bad leg poses in there. Some bad firing arm poses as well. Armour variation is poorly executed. The kit really needed an update, but there is hardly any improvement. Can’t quite put my finger on it but it feels like they’ve changed the waist proportions in some way as well. Vanguard have some nice detail but of course the poses are bad as we have already seen. Bare heads seem to be getting worse as well, nothing good shown in either kit. Zebukkuk
It's good to see the back banner making a return. I already put back banners from the Dark Angels Company Veterans kit on all my Tacticus armour squads. It's nice to know I won't need to scour the depths of eBay at appalling prices to find more of them. 14 minutes ago, Robbienw said: The Intercessors are poor. So many bad poses in there. GW doesn't seem to know how to put their own models together sometimes. I can usually work out much better poses on my own. Thankfully the Intercessors kit is more flexible with any of the arms fitting on each torso, so this may be possible. That is the second time that they have called them Combat Shields rather than Storm Shields. My guess is that they will grant a 5++ save. If they make VanVets too good with a 4++ then they risk invalidating both BGVs and Sanguinary Guard.
