The Vanguard are underwhelming, I like their poses but I wish they aould have had more character in their individual designs. The Interssessors poses also seem ok, but are they really that different from what they are replacing? Id have to see the sprue, but I would have loved more throwbacks to classic armor designs.

better question is, why would bladeguard have storm shields and iron halos in the first place? What´s the point of double invulnerable saves in the lore but not in game? Or was this another "but it looks cool?!"  Tidbit that GW seems to be pushing in some units? Vanguards with lightning claws would been nice, not another hammer shield unit that they were usually used with smash captain.

I am really glad like the Vanguard veterans are not gaudily overblinged like they were designed by Trump. They have a lot of ornamentation, and more would just be gaudy. I will already remove the shoulder cruxes as that's not how my veterans (besides terminators) are designated. I am a bit appalled that so many people want their marines look like tacky Christmas trees. You can already buy victrix guard if you like that look.

And the ones with the shields do not have pistols, not even holster, so I guess that's the trade off.

You seem to be willfully ignorant about the past of the miniature range. The original metal vanguard veterans weren't caked with decoration at all. It's just that their ornamentation was better placed than the details on these. Not even the plastic miniatures had heaps of ornamentation on them, save for one pair of legs. Before you bring up the guy with the imperialis or aquila on his legs. That was present on multiple Primaris models as well. It's better a model have a detail you can easily remove than have no detail at all. The new vanguard veterans are bland because there's nothing going on with their weapons, jump packs and they lack a harness. I also think that loincloths on assault marines are highly impractical. I think that's far worse than ornamentation I can remove because it involves reconstructing the crotch on a model because the sculptors are too lazy to make the cloth a separate piece. I also think a harness would help break up the empty space on these new Vanguard Veterans too.

they were never going to be blood claw design. Blood claws explicitly have lighter armour (interested to see where their stats end up actually)

I've heard this before and I still find itself to be utter bull. What's so light about it?

The loss of the extra armoring on the backpack vent orbs and the *dramatic sfx* dreaded knee pad rims? It's like when they said Omnis armor was combination of phobos and gravis armor, even though it shared none of the latters traits...

Regardless, Blood claw bodies do make for a nice base for some more alternate looking bodies that require the bare minimum to cut to de-wolfify

Generally I'd ignore anyone using the term "Christmas trees" to describe pre-Primaris Marine veterans, as they're invariably parroting/misquoting that one snippet by Jes Goodwin (which if memory serves was about the plastic Sternguard). Combined with the feeble political bait and it's safe to ignore the post as a pitiful trolling attempt.

And yes, the old metal Veterans are some of the best Marines we've ever gotten. Love those guys.

Anyway. The Vanguard Veterans look generally alright. No lightning claws is a damn shame, but the bodies on the whole look very good. They'll look much better with proper jump packs of course (and those silly shin-thrusters removed), but that's easily remedied. The Intercessors are definitely an improvement over the previous kit, even if they could have gone a bit further with variety (mainly the helmets and backpacks admitted) but I am sad they're still not budging on giving them special/heavy weapons. The loss of the Tactical Squad would sting a lot less if Intercessors could at least take a special weapon and a missile launcher.

The ornamentation level on the vanguard is quite sufficient and I see no issue with how it is placed. It seems perfectly nicely placed and scaled and looks good. They have far more of it than intercessors, so it easily marks them as veterans. I sorta agree on loincloths, though at least they're quite short ones, so they won't be on their faces when they descent. About the chest harness I completely disagree. It always looked bad, obscuring the chest detail, and made zero sense as obviously the jump packs would be just bolted on the armour instead of attached by straps. I am vey glad that is gone.

It depends on what a Stormshield actually does. It seems to be inconsistent.

For some models it adds an extra wound. For others it grants an Invul save.

For models without an Invuln, it gives a 4++ (e.g. Lt). For models with an existing Invuln, it gives +1W (e.g. Captains) although in this case it seems to be called a Relic Shield.

Bladeguard are a bit of an odd-one-out because it seems on the face of it that they get both, at least compared to Sternguard. However elite infantry that comes in 3s now seems to have 3W profile by default (e.g. ICCs, Headtakers with dual weapons) so it seems that the Stormshield just gives them a 4++ so it remains consistent.

I think every model which has access to a storm shield also has an inbuild invuln save which is as good as the 4++ nowadays. Hence they gave another wound. Or do I miss some shady units?

It's literally in the unit decription - you don't have to like it. But the designers intent is that its lighter weight than the armour work by grey hunters.

Oh i know it is. It's still bull. I buy that phobos is lighter than tacticus, or that gravis is heavier. Heck i can even accept that the bladeguard have a seperate variant thats differentiated enough.

But the blood claw "variant" being divergent enough to justify a rules distinction is a tall ask in my opinion. Regardless, it only becomes an issue if they actually act on it, and limit their own armor variations on models going forward because they think losing the trim and orb guard is enough of a departure that its not the same class of armor anymore.

Would you know where this is taken from? Just had a look through my Codex and can't seem to find the text about their armour being lighter

One thing I realized about the new Intercessors.... This kit is going to open up an absolute third-party bits field day. With the chest armour being cleanly separate from the torso, and apparently standardized like the latest Terminators, we're going to see many new custom parts covering different Chapters.

That'd be a godsend for certain unorthodox chapters, and Chaos conversions

I have so many intercessors already I'm almost feeling apprehensive for any reasons to get more

Where's the info on the chest armour being a separate piece from? This would be awesome if true!

Could go for the full chapter collection, which, if my math is correct, can be up to 440 Intercessors.

Same for me. With minimal efforts I can get more from this new kit than any of my old Intercessors... but I already have so many that I made efforts to decorate and paint.

It will depend on all the releases coming with the new codex and how much I'll be investing.

Where GW showed or said that?

If you want your veterans to look bland and boring nothing was stopping you from sticking a couple of bits onti the jump intercessor kit.

Now that's a reason to be excited about these kits! They should have lead with that in the marketing!

Well this is why it's a boring unit as a concept really. That taking a unit, giving it a bigger sword, slapping a couple of laurels on it and selling it again is kinda what marines are all about.

By that logic every marine unit is boring, as theyre all just a dude with a different weapon and slightly different bits.
