Slight Changes to Mk. X Tacticus in Recent Kits

With recent Mk. X Tacticus Kits, I have noticed some slight design changes relative to earlier models. I haven't seen anyone mention these changes, so I figured I'd make a thread showcasing the alterations to the average mk x marine. granted, it's quite possible someone's already pointed them out here and I simply missed it. If so, my apologies.

1. Altered Gorget angle/tilt

This is is the most substantial and beneficial changes of those that I noticed. The gorgets on the Grey Hunters and the recent 11th ed. models have a steeper tilt than previous models (pictured is an Armageddon Intercessor and a BT Initiate). I think this looks much better; I never liked the low angle of the gorget on previous Tacticus miniatures, which always struck me as tilting forward to such a degree that it seemed rather useless as a protective collar.

 

While the new gorgets do interfere with Beakie snouts more, they're simultaneously easier to file down in order to accommodate said snoots than the old ones, which required sanding down both from the top and the front in order to create the steeper tilt the new gorgets have by default. The new ones should only require sanding down from the top to allow more room for a beakie snout.

 

2. Curved Greaves

The front plate of the greaves now have a slight contour, curving outward near the boot much like the recent HH Mk. IV and VI greaves. The Grey Hunters do not feature this change, and interestingly the Armageddon Ancient doesnt either. I don't have a strong opinion on this. I think the contour makes the single piece greaves (aka the slightly mk vi esque ones) look nicer than their counterparts in the Grey Hunters/Blood Claws kits. For the standard greaves featuring a separate poleyn, i think I slightly prefer the straight ones but it's not a big deal

 

3. Helmet dome proportions

This is the most subtle change of all; the "dome" of the helmet is slighty larger and has a more substantial curve when looked at dead-on. It was hard to get a photo that illustrated this. The Grey Hunters/Blood Claws do not feature this change, and as with the Greaves the 11th ed. Ancient doesnt either. The bits in the recent helmet upgrade kit are in the new style.

The curved greaves part is interesting when looked at in combination with the new helmet top cover and the new better angled gorget. Some metal models and the old Mk VIII Deathwatch instantly came to mind. The current iteration of the basic Tacticus Marine is drifting closer and closer to the Jes Goodwin Mk VIII concept. Give it an edition or two and you might see Tacticus get replaced by a squad that's 80% decked out in Errant armour. The new changes are good. Hopefully in the future they will correct the legs on every other Tacticus kit. The fused legs on the Assault Intercessors, Hellblasters, Desolators and Jump pack Intercessors are quite annoying.

Keep in mind that Mk.VIII was supposed be a really hard to make Armour mark which is why nearly all the suits that existed were in the hands of the Inquisition via Deathwatch and Cawl's Mk.X was intentionally designed to be Cawl's attempting to mass produce power armour with the benefits of Mk.VIII but at a fraction of the production cost.

I don't remember any record of it being supposedly hard to manufacture, I only remember the mention from Imperial Armour Volume 12 of it being made almost exclusively on Mars. It's just implied that not many Forge Worlds make this pattern but process of production lines being adapted to make parts for it on most Forge Worlds was in progress and appears to be part of regular power armour part shipments to most chapters that get resupplied by Mars with more influential groups getting priority when it comes to full suit shipments. I don't really care about claims about Cawl that can't really be substantiated. This thread really isn't about lore, it's about design elements.

The point was more that Mk.X was supposed to look very much like Mk.VIII.
