I don't get the Death Company comparison to the Legion of the Damned, since the DC have not been depicted with a bigger skulle/bone/death theme than other space marine forces, what marked them out was their different colour from the rest of their chapter and all the x:es on their armour and bands tied around their limbs.

No, the Chaplain would be obvious by his crozius.

There is a reason I said "ribcage like pattern".

You are correct that only 2 have the Rib pattern coloured like ribs on the official colour scheme, but I've seen plenty of Chaplain models used in games where that rib design on the Armour was painted like ribs official colour scheme be damned.

The geometric rib pattern seen on some of the chaplains looks like black armour at a distance. It doesn't stand out that much. Most chaplains today have gold detailing on their shoulders and legs to make them stand out more. Black armour with white on top, gold on the bottom.

Another random wildcard: Plastic Valdor model for Horus Heresy? He was in the intro for the new edition and they usually base that on model releases.

I'd buy that. The resin version is one of the few Character Series I don't care for. I think it's a huge longshot though.

I don't think you can necessarily say that preferrring either take on LotD is wrong, but I'll at least say that I think there is a whole lot of death imagery on a lot of 40K minis, so for my money I don't feel like they're stepping on other units' toes.

Dark Reapers, Immortals, Reivers, Death Jesters, Death Company, Space Wolf Deathsworn, Chaplains and Legion of the Damned. Did I forget anyone?

Yeah. Never in my life have I seen or heard anyone say they were confused about Legion of the Damned looking like something else. So this is a new one for me.

To be honest, modern GW prices + my dislike for new 40k units being released as Kill Team bundles + my ability to 3D print as many upscaled LotD as I want mean this is mostly academic for me anyway. It would just be nice to see the classic styling continue.

It'd be nice if they Legion of the Damned were older marks but I think they will be manifested in the newer Tacticus armour I think and probably ruined with loads of unnecessary three dimensional flames and warp effects rather than just cover them in bones and stuff.

I think they're almost certainly going to be made into Primaris, unfortunately. Even the Sanguinor was upgraded to Mark X.

Something I won't be too fond of as part of that is it'll probably in some ways show what the Legion of the Damned actually are. There's a level of mystery to them on if they're they're still physically Space Marines (Just trapped and affected by whatever happened) or if they're more of a warp entity of some kind overall. If they're all shown as being Primaris, then that implies they're more towards being warp entities as it's not as if they'd have the resources and capabilities to do that ordinarily.

It just implies that the art style has evolved. Don't overthink it. And Sanguinor does not have any obvious MkX features, he is just dedwarfivied and has some detail differences.

Curious what Custodes will get - if anything - beyond the Aquilon Terminators that GW already accidentally revealed.

Im hoping for new characters in the new style. Perhaps a named hero to replace Valerian or Valoris.

Also, consider that there are quite a few people playing warhammer now who only know of the LotD as the "Flaming Skeleton Ghost Rider Marines" because they didn't exist when the LotD were just Black Armoured Marines with Flame Decals.

Yeah, this is my big thing (and why, while I will constantly bring it up, I'm not actually advocating for adherence to that original style).

I may prefer the LotD from my childhood... but whenever I see other people sharing their conversions, etc, over the last few editions, it has always been the "ghost rider" skeleton-Marines wreathed in warpfire.

While I do want a "classic" kit... if I were in charge of the range, I'd definitely be telling the sculptors to do the "ghost rider" sculpted on-fire skeliemens.

(Aside: I do wonder if at some point someone got the lore of the Cursed Founding's Fire Hawks - the Chapter which got a psychic warp disease and became the Legion of the Damned - and the lore of the Cursed Founding's Flame Falcons - the Chapter which had a mutation that caused them to psychically immolate during combat and became purged by the Grey Knights - mixed together. I know that I occasionally have to think about which is the old LotD, "was it the Fire Hawks or the Flame Falcons?".)

I was thinking that if the LotD is just space marines in armour with painted flames, won't they just be black armoured Salamanders?

(Since the Sallys are all about the flame motif)

I think you have to go all Ghost Rider to make them really stand out.

Sanguinor is 100% not in MKX armour.  His armour is nothing like it.

Ideally, the kit would come with enough pauldron / head options to do the more Ghost Rider-esque, flaming design. That said, I could also easily see them having the armour as fairly plain in of itself, and instead focusing on painting tutorials for flames. They've put out more than a few simple but effective tutorials for flames and magma in the last few years; the Salamanders tutorial for Heresy 3E comes to mind.

(Can't locate the flames tutorial at the moment, but here's the magma one.)

Thankfully being an in-house stream should limit it. Their technical issues mostly seem to occur when they're at events, which may be why they're rarely hosted at them now.

Or it could mean that they got their hands on primaris tech from a torchbearer ship lost in the warp. And they have not stopped recruting after becoming the LotD.

Yeah, though (classically) lots of Space Marines had rad flames painted on their armour.

Blood Angels, Salamanders, Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children...

All the cool kids.

It was the late 80s/early 90s; flames were totally radical, gnarly, and... jawsome? (Wait... are Space Marines gene-slammed?)

Plus of course the fact that everybody in 40k practically has skull iconography and/or actual skulls out the wazoo.

It doesn't just imply the art style has "evolved" if they are specifically decisions to represent them as having Mark X by including the features of that armour pattern rather than going for the earlier versions as they did with something like Red Corsairs.
