New Warhammer 40k Box Set at Barnes & Noble

Dipped into the local Barnes and Noble this morning and saw a new Warhammer 40k Beginner box right next to their usual Kill Team box.

 

6 Marines vs. 6 Orks

Card Terrain, dice, and other stuff... for $42.00

Much better than the $45 I spent on just the marine half.

This looks like the set announced two months ago to be "available in select retail stores in the USA, Germany, and Australia later in the year":

Combination of push-fit ork and marine models and cardboard terrain in a starter set sounds like something I have seen before somewhere. Though six marines versus six orks does not sound like a perfectly balanced match-up.

Don't worry, the marines have a lieutenant in there too for extra balance :D

I am aware that in real world armies over-eager junior lieutenants are sometimes considered a hindrance for their own side, but I was not aware of this trope applying to marines.

 

It is difficult to tell much about those models from the small pictures, so I am not really able to tell how they are exactly equipped.

 

That cardboard terrain looks functional, but not particularly inspiring. This may be partially due to the thinness of the chosen cardboard stock. That said, the half-cut approach of attaching the ruins together looks quite practical.

Its the same models as the Introductory set, just without paints it seems.

Oh yeah Baby! The rest of the Marines are coming home. I can split the orks off to my ork mate. Win win.
