Night Lords Pete
I’m glad to be here! A little about myself… I’ve had a long-time relationship with GW and 40K, starting with my older brother buying White Dwarf and me enjoying looking at all of the models and armies. When I was 8, I then spent my saved-up money on the first edition of Space Hulk (I think it was £20 at the time) and, weirdly, the GW game ‘Oi, Dats My Leg’ (if anyone remembers that)! This led to me getting Epic and lots of bad and very tiny miniature painting! Then I discovered girls, bands, etc., and things dropped off for a while. I got back into things around 5th edition and built a Nurgle Chaos Marine army (back before all the lovely Death Guard models were out). I’ve always loved the Chaos factions and leant towards them ever since seeing the Realm of Chaos supplements in White Dwarf all those years ago… the ones with the mutation tables and amazing art. Around this time I also read the Night Lords trilogy, and this planted the seed of wanting to build a home-brew narrative Chaos warband. At the time I dabbled a bit in doing this with World Eaters, however life got busy, I changed jobs, I moved house a couple of times, got married, and things dropped off again. A few years ago I stumbled across channels like PlayOn and Tabletop Tactics doing battle reports on YouTube. When watching them and seeing Night Lords played, I’d often find myself wondering why the armies didn’t really feel like Night Lords to me. That started a mental exercise of me working out what I would try and field if I were to build and play a thematic Night Lords army. One thing led to another and I got the modelling bug again, and after much deliberation I decided I’d give my narrative army another bash. And you guessed it, I’ve gone for Night Lords to have a bit of evil fun! I’m an OK modeller, and an OK painter – not great at either, especially as my eyes have gotten worse the last few years! I haven’t played a game for a long time and might do so once I’ve built enough, however I’m really enjoying the hobby side of things at the moment. The project is very, very slow as I balance building and painting stuff with life in general. I joined as I wanted to start a blog to showcase some of the conversions, finished models, and warband lore that I’ve brewed up. I’m just trying to get my miniature photos nailed down to look half decent (mostly there – I’m one phone tripod away from solidly average photos), and then will start this off. I’m hoping that a blog keeps me accountable and spurs me on to speed up and devote more time to the project! Being a Chaos fan, other hobbies include taking sweets from babies, not helping old ladies across the road, and laughing maniacally at short people in the shops struggling to reach items on the top shelves. I also tend to write long and rambling posts – sorry and well done if you made it this far! Glad to be part of the community! 8 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388624-ave-dominus-nox-brothers/ Share on other sites
Griefbringer
Welcome on board, ruler of the night! Night Lords with their dark blue colour scheme may not be the easiest figures when it comes to photography. 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388624-ave-dominus-nox-brothers/#findComment-6190302 Share on other sites

Night Lords Pete
Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome! I really appreciate it. I’ve managed to get to grips with the photo setup now, however some of my group shots I was going to use in my first blog post wear pretty poorly composed so want to retake some more. if anyone has any recommendations of good blogs with deep lore and nice kitbashed models let me know! Thanks again! 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388624-ave-dominus-nox-brothers/#findComment-6190545 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
Are you just interested in Night Lords stuff - if so, Tallarn Commander's thread has some insane conversions. If its chaos marines more generally, I can come up with some suggestions, including my own conversion/kit bash thread (though, that has things like knights in it too). Others include Volgon's undead heretic astartes, and I'm sure I could come up with more with some head scratching and digging. Indeed, if you are interested in conversions irrespective of faction, there are worst things to do than brouse the various threads in the Artisan's Workshop. As for lore, you'll need another frater to help you with that - that's not really a part of the hobby I'm personally into. 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388624-ave-dominus-nox-brothers/#findComment-6190572 Share on other sites

I’ve had a quick look at some of the early pages of your thread and the Defiler and Mauler Fiend conversions are amazing! The work and detail that went into them is superb. I do tend to lean towards Chaos in most things, though have also always been fascinated by the concept of infantry only guard throwing bodies into the meat grinder to win the day and have maybe 40 hapless unpainted guardsmen relegated to sitting in a box on a shelf. 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388624-ave-dominus-nox-brothers/#findComment-6190588 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
Thanks! I'm really happy with how the defiler, in particular, turned out. You might also want to check out Valkia's Night Lords' themed knight despoiler here. Infantry guard (though I had a few tanks, the core was infantry) was actually my 2nd army (back in 4th to 6th edition) so I know the feel of painting a million guardsmen (well, I have about 200, but it feels like more). Not many of my photos survived the demise of photobucket, but you can see those that did here if you are interested. I also have 30-odd chaos guard which you will come across in the thread with my other conversions (the one with the defiler and mauler). Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your own work - you should consider sharing it in the Artisan's subforum, and/or the appropriate faction subforum (like here for chaos marines). How far are you into your army/armies? Unfortunately I couldn’t see any of the pictures of your guard, it came up unavailable in my region so something technical I can’t work out going on there. I did look up the NL themed Knight Despoiler and that is pretty damn epic. Also some of those Undead Heretic Marines are really nice. I was very impressed. I’m not very far along with mine, I’ve built and painted a unit of raptors, Chaos Lord with jump pack, and some Obliterator proxy models, as well as some fluff models. At the moment I’m working on a Nemesis Claw, a third Obliterator proxy, and a load more fluff models (6 I think). They’re mostly assembled but still need some work. 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388624-ave-dominus-nox-brothers/#findComment-6192763 Share on other sites
