stev
So my kids have been getting into warhammer. One has around 1600pts of dark angels, other has about 1200pts of csm. Ive got the tyranid half of the 10th starter set and managed to salvage a few of my old models from my parents house...this was from like early 2000's. Xenos - Tyranids - Invasion Fleet Broodlord (80pts) Winged Tyranid Prime (65pts): Warlord 10x Termagants (60pts) 10x Termagants (60pts) 5x Barbgaunts (55pts) 5x Genestealers (75pts) 3x Von Ryan's Leapers (70pts) 2x Ripper Swarms (40pts) 2x Ripper Swarms (40pts) Mawloc (135pts) Psychophage (110pts) Thats 700 points. Im considering expanding. Obviously I'm not looking to be super competitive, more a fun list with lots of variety to allow my kids to try different tactics etc. Like how to handle big monsters, infiltrators, swarms, artillery etc. And keeping cost down is always good. I was thinking of the combat patrol but building it as follows Xenos - Tyranids - Invasion Fleet Parasite of Mortrex (80pts) Biovores (50pts) 10x Genestealers (140pts) 3x Hive Guard (90pts) It does give alot of genestealers tho. But they're essentially free if I was buying the other three units separately. Im also trying to piece together a squad of 3 Ranged warriors from my old bits box. What other options do people recommend? Value for money and variety/fun are more important than competitive. (I know 2nd hand is an cheap option but I enjoy the building and painting aspects of the hobby for myself!) Focslain
You have a decent selection already, which is good. There maybe a christmas box popping up in the next few months, think beginning of november. They tend to have a decent value to them. Otherwise maybe another warrior squad or a swarm (x20) hormagaunts would add to the swarm. If your looking for just something different, you can grab a GSC patrol or two and use them together. There is a detachment that allows nids into GSC. Your a little to late for the uber deals. But if you can find them for ~thier original cost. The Space Marine boardgame had 20 termaguants and a LT marine for $40. There was also other package deals last year and the Combat Patrol magazine that had the Vandergaust Swarm for cheap. Like 3 Von Ryans for $15 cheap. Really at this point I'd start to figure out what you want to field personally and work towards that. Tawnis
The Tyrannofex/Tervigon kit is one of the more reasonably priced ones and you could build it either way. Either a Tervigon to support your gaunts, or a Tyrannofex to be a big monster threat.
