Brother Sergeant Alasseo Posted June 25, 2005 Share Posted June 25, 2005 Well, nobody has mapped all of the galaxy (yet...) so you can generally feel free to make up your own system. We can see from the excellent galactic map on Dark Millennia that your system must be in Ultima Segmentum to have had contact with the Tau (their homeworld of T'au lies at approximately 120degrees galactic, at a distance of 40-45 thousand lightyears from galactic centre). Since the Tau sphere of influence is approximately 300LY in diameter, then it would be unwise to try and situate the system more than 175-225LY from T'au (Tau ships have no navigators, and so they can only make short, and relatively slow warp jumps. Therefore they are unlikely to be found very far from Tau space). The Eldar connection is easier to make. No-one knows the exact extent and composition of the pre-Fall Eldar empire (with the possible exception of =][= Czevak, who isn't saying), and so it would fairly simple to say that an eldar maiden world lies in the system. An old exodite world would also be appropriate, but those are more likely to have caused the Eldar to attacked, and either driven off or destroyed any outpost in the system. However, if you were to put the system say, 200LY to the galactic north-east of T'au, then it may well be close enough to the (now shattered) craftworld of Iyanden to encounter patrols from there. All in all, there are no hard and fast rules to creating systems, but be aware that for contact with the Tau to be feasible, the system will really have to be in an area of space that is liable to be infested with tyranid splinter fleets (as the map shows) Hope that is of some help Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You don't have to use a GW-defined system, in fact, it's better if you don't - you have the freedom to create a system with any paramters you choose, whereas if you use an 'official' system, you're constrained by the fluff GW puts out, and you also run the risk that they will add to that at some point in the future and negate all your hard work... This galaxy map may be of some use to you, but if you want contact with Eldar and Tau, I'd say go for the Eastern Fringes - that's where the Tau Empire is located, and the Iyanden Craftworld is certainly located in that general area...
