Well its best to come up with a name yourself otherwise you'll never be happy. But we do need more info to help you generate ideas.

What tactics do they commonly use? Whats the chapters symbol? Colour scheme? Do you have any theme running through (Roman, Greek, Comic book, Medieval?)

The only thing I can think of from your description is that they seem very assault orientated so perhaps something along the lines of Claws, Talons, razorbeaks

Just some pointers that we need a little bit more from you ;)

thanks for the replys people!

my army is predominantly black witht the red shoulder pad trim on the right to show which company they are from. their helmets and left shoulder pad are bleached bone and the shoulder has enscriptions on it as do their bolters.

Like the ravengaurd they like surprise hit and run attacks, infiltrating all their troops near an isolated enemy unit and with a combination of assault cannons and power weapons, wipe them all out before sneaking into the shadows and moving onto the next unit.

Thanks also for the suggestion about the black gaurd but I don't think I will use them as If they produce a colour scheme or fluff then i'm gonna have to change. However this did lead me on to an idea, what do you thinnk of "Shadow Gaurd" or similar?

*Cough* Im sure The Shadow Guard has named his army Shadow Guard unless your going for a misspelling Gaurd :P

Perhaps try a variation of terms for guard and shadow?

Here's some for Guard (courtesy of dictionary.com ;) )

bouncer, chaser, convoyer, custodian, defender, escort, eyes, hack, herder, hooligan, lookout, picket, roller, sentinel, sentry, shields, sidewinder, stick, ward, warden, watch, watchman, yard bull

Shadow

adumbration, cover, dark, dimness, dusk, gloom, obscuration, obscurity, penumbra, protection, shade, shelter, umbra, umbrage

The Shadow Sentinels sounds nifty :P

Damn people who dont spell their Chapter names right, I just copy & paste :P

I like the sound of the "Gloom Guard", some really miserable warriors ;) Or you could go with Shadow Guard and hope The Shadow Guard doesnt live in your area :P

Great idea on the synonyms, but be careful. The Dimness Hooligans sounds like some of the people who hang around town on a Friday night!

You would need to model vomit and broken bottles on the bases though- an interesting challenge!

If you want it to sound like it is from the RavenGuard, then IMHO you have to use the word "Raven".

Guard is used way to much for that to tie them in.

Some suggestions:

Ravens of...

Emperor's Ravens (or someone else's name)

Name of a color Ravens

Night Ravens or Raven Knights

Raven Warriors

Blood Ravens, UltraRavens, Dark Ravens, Raven Wolves(just kidding)

RavenLords

StormRavens......

Okay, I'll be up all night if I don't stop this now. Good luck.

Blood Ravens, UltraRavens, Dark Ravens, Raven Wolves

Im sure the first one already exists :)

You dont need to have raven in your name to be a Raven Guard sucessor, but it could help.

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks again people, sorry for not replying for a while (holidays in countries with limited internet access do that to you). I really like the idea of using a different bird but probably not a crow.

what do people think of the (K)night Falcons?

Sounds good to me. Either one, depending if you want a Knightly theme, or a dark/night theme.

Maybe we should have a "Rate my Name" thread for all these what do you think of this name threads.

You don't like crows eh? I've always thought Storm Crows would make a good name. For those of you who haven't READ Lord of the Rings, Storm Crow is a nickname the Rohirrim use for Gandalf.

From the color scheme you mentioned, you ought to call them the Red Wings. Not like the hockey team mind you, but the bird! They're the most common bird in north America! If you ask me, their shoulder patches LOOK like a marine's shoulder armor.

On a side note, if you're a Final Fantasy fan, the Red Wings as the name of the airship force in FF2(U.S.)

What color is the left pad and chapter badge going to be? I think it's unusual to show company marking on shoulder pads. I hsuggest you have red pads with yellow trim, your logo on the left shoulder and yellow squad markings on the right. You can then either add company markings to the right as well or just use the kneepads.

Let me know what ya think of something like this:

Looks nice to me, you could have edited your post though

Actually, showing company on the shoulder pad is one of the main ways of doing it according to the codex. The Ultra's do it, so it cant be unusual.

i don't paticularly like that colour scheme, soz.

on my own the chapter symbol on the right pad is a sort of a glorified v keepeing things simple and the squad and numer markings go on the left knee. thanks anyway
