ive chosen their 5th company and have done the comany colouring appropriately - being a codex chapter and all. it ios wrote that they are a codex chapter but other than that and their colour cheme - i know NOTHNG!!!

so fluff detectives - can you shed any light on this mysterious chapter?

According to the list of official GW chapters on Ironhands.com (http://www.ironhands.com/chapters.htm), there is absolutely nothing known about them except the color scheme, so you're free to do what you want with them. Just before the Great Fall, I posted an IA and a bit of fluff about the Emperor's Hawks, which are probably related to the Dark Eagles. You can find it here: http://bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=83063&hl=. Feel free to borrow/copy/steal any of that that you want.

in the words of brick top in 'snatch' - goody gumdrops...

looks like i can do my heavily assault themed army after all. quite uniform too.

the seperate marks of tac squad armour are in sep tac squads. they are themed around hunting the heretic. an adage of leave them no place to hide, and you will burn the heretic. mainly close combat themed, they have take the fight to them and no mercy no respite. not sure of drawbacks yet. have a quirk that does not allow anyone other than veterans to remove their helmets in front of the enemy. heretics should be denied the right to view their redeemer. they must only see the truly just. my company favour the claws of the eagle, and being a crusading chapter, have favour bionic replacement over grafts or other forms of medical procedures, partly due to the want to get back into battle.

the veterans of the 1st company can select older marks of armour which are venerated and kept in the vaults with the chapters great dreadnoughts. these are all kept in battle worn condition and cannot be repaired except for totally necessary exeptions. the only personal embellishment they may make is to customise their battle gear, and to display their veteran roles on sheilds once they have earnt the right to become a mentor. these are different in respect that they may undertake bolter discipline or combat mastery, and display their own specialisms respectively.

the chapter follow the idea of specialisation, and uses customised armour for seperate purposes. this is most noticable in the companies devastators, who often have bionic targeting aids, and reinforced chest and leg bracing, to allow them to absorb recoil more effectively. they achieve this through the chapters techmarines and their high number of thralls, rather than killing them or abandoning them, the chapter keeps them and use them to assist the techmarines in their tasks, and other duties such as administration and assisting in the librarium, due to the chapters beliefs and intense psych-screening. they are treated with respect, as their selection methods surpass other chapters in terms of physical and mental ability, and are often rescusitated by the apothecaries from a critical state in selection, providing they have passed the selections of a 'standard' chapter.

they are said to have an air of superiority around them, and have been known to have close ties with the ordo hereticus and xenos who value them for their devastating force. their geneseed is subject to debate as to either that of rogal dorn or roboute guilliman, but many argue that other chapters traits are just as prevalent. be it the iron hands hatred of weakness, or the fierce and swift nature of the white scars or raven guard, the dark eagles are indeed a force shrouded in mystery but are unswerving in their dedication to the emperor.
