Zgar
Hi brothers, posted a while ago conversion WIP's of my Deathwatch kill-team (thread link). While some comments have been really good, I decided to paint them as their were, since their turned out to be glued together really well... Am keeping the ideas for my next DW marines! Now am looking for some coments and critics at the painting stage... Note - I know the librarians backpack is a real WIP only + some of the highlights need some more attention... So looking forward to your c&c's on details you like/dislike or pointing me to stuff I have forgoten... Thanks and cheers! Any good ideas are welcome! :D Click thumbnails for larger images: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib2.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw5.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/ Share on other sites

Jokersminis
Looks pretty good, Zgar. I would have perhaps swapped the weapons on the UM and RG members, but a very nice team indeed. Angrons_Chosen
kewwl :( ... are you gonna do an army like Danek? oh and i know this isn't PC&A related but where are the rules for DeathWatch!? i can't find them anywhere!! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1001832 Share on other sites
ardyer
I love the bases, how did you do them? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1001843 Share on other sites
-][-Danek-][-
I love the painting work and the models definately have character. My only gripe is really the Libby. He seems to be from the Space Wolves(correct me if I'm wrong),but the Space Wolves don't have Libby's. I also agree the Lightning Claws would have been better on the Raven Guard. Zgar
Thanks for all your responses guys! Feels good to know you like them in general ;) To your questions/comments: @ Kobrakai - you can see some of my recent figs on my Photobucket gallery (link). There is also a a gallery on my site (see sig for linky), but I don't get to update it some much lately... @ ardyer - bases - plc check the Photobucket link and my updated Termies gallery - you can see a WIP shot of similar bases before priming. Basicaly it is textured plasticard with sand and various rubble... @ Joker and Danek - LC vs. PF guys - honestly I did not much like the UM LC guy idea too, but I wanted to have one UM in the team and had 5 custom made shoulder pads incl a Raven Guard one for the DW team I really wanted to use. Not that I would be lazy or something, but I did not feel like converting the LC arm just to swap the shoulder pad... if you did see the right LC hand from the new vet models I used, you would know why... the metal is almost 2 cm in diameter in the elbow area thanks to the big seals/pergaments... And I can only pain freehand the UM symbol well... Funny people don't think an UM would go for LC'c but more likely for a PF  Why is that? @ Danek - SW "libby" - I have the same feeling as you have since the first conversion of this guy, some of my excueses are: 1st - I do not have any other non-standard backpack (e.g. a character back pack) apart from the SW one 2nd - I already used a SW head - as I think this one has the right expression for "spell casting action" 3rd - as I expected people will wonder/comment abt this, I have prepared a nice fluff story how the libby was awarded the SW character back pack as a reward for saving some stunned puppies folks from a horde of alien beasts.... in the action his own back pack was dammaged and ever since, he is wearing the SW bp as a symbol of honour... or something like that... :D @ Angrons_Chosen - DW army - well I would love to do one, but am waiting for GW to go for it and release the Codex: Alien Hunters... than I expect they will release some more models and accesories, hopefuly also something in plastic. I hate metal bits... Untill that time I plan to use the DW team only. The DW rules I use were published in the UK WD with the front side picturing Carnifex and an burning UM Rhino. Don't recall the issue nr. now and don't have the WD with me now... So thanks again to all for your comments! P.S. next up is a converted DW Razorback/Rhino. :) Keep your fingers crossed, will ya? B) Thanks! Cheers! edit - typos... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1001998 Share on other sites

Zgar
+ Update+ - have finished the Librarian (his backpack) - and have re-painted the LC's to have the same power effect as the Librarians Force Weapon. Two questions: - how about the drybrushed "stony effect" of the backpack exhausts? - which on the Ligting Claws versions do you like better? Plain metal or power effect? Sure also any other comments are appreciated! ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_dw3_2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib2_1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib2_2.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib2_3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v650/zgar/Deathwatch/th_DW_lib2_4.jpg Thanks and cheers! space wolf
rune priests are the SW version of Librarians...so just call your librarian a rune priest and you wont have fluff problems. firestorm40k
Excellent - I really like these! ^_^ Your Death Watch Marines have set a painting benchmark I only hope I can come somewhere near to matching when I get round to painting my own Death Watch Marines next month... undead marine
The claws are much nicer now imho. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1014982 Share on other sites
Brother-Librarian Swintha
The claws would be better suited on the Raven Guard marine. :D Other than that minor complaint, everything looks tip top mate. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1014995 Share on other sites
Rayden Kayne
I also found it funny that there were a pair of Lightning Claws, and a Raven Guard Marine, and two and two weren't successfully put together Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1015004 Share on other sites
Zgar
Alright, will some one please explain me what is it about Raven guard and LC's? Now I know Shrike and his flying boys have LC's, but not the whole chapter, right? Thanks and cheers ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1015129 Share on other sites
-Q-
I think some people take the various Chapters' iconic themes a little out of perspective. When fluff says they *favor* one weapon or another, or one fighting style or another, it does not mean they *only* employ those weapons or styles. The Chapters are first and foremost... Sons of the Emperor, Space Marines. Trained and equipped to fight with all of the weapons of the Astartes and including squads specializing in most of them. I was just going to post that I love the hand/spell effect =) but this sort of thing drives me nuts. Love the hand/spell effect!! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1015362 Share on other sites
Brother-Librarian Swintha
I wasn't taking it out of perspective. I WAS just saying that it would be better suited. You're right that all the space marines are trained to be equipped with all various weapons...but I would assume that each marine would be recruited for their speciality. :P Sorry if I offended you -Q- :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/86541-deathwatch-wip-painting-stage/#findComment-1015678 Share on other sites
MadEdric
I like them, fine quality as always. My one point of critique would be the lack of color on the models, all are basically black/grey/silver and I think the effect will make them look monotone at tabletop length. Perhaps a different color for the bolters to break the uniform color scheme? Otherwise, execellent work. I've always liked your Ultramarines, these are no different.
