Marine Dread / Cyborg

Recommended Posts

Edit: New finished pictures on Page 2.

I have been working on this for a while now and thought it was about time I broke my silence on this forum. I decided to model a marine who has become bonded to a Dark Age combat cyborg suit. I am currently working on the aesthetics of the design and am unsure about the shoulder armour.

So if anyone has any comments or criticisms it would be most appreciated as this is very much WIP.

As a side note the mini stands 65mm tall or 1.5 times the height of a termi.

I really like the huge plasma cannon... especially since it almost looks like it is being wielded like a normal hand gun.

Normally i aint to keen on new ideas like cyborgs and stuff... but youre starting to win me over with this conversion.

Are you planning on painting it? If so Pleeeease keep us posted ;)

I am using it in my Dark angels army so am planning to pait it in their colours.

The main armour and other large surfaces will be DA green, the mecha parts will be done in metalics and the flesh will be very pale / deathly. I plan to try and freehand some heraldry on the right shoulder possibly a sword wielding angel. The paldron (little shield) will be in my companies colours, black and red check with a white sword diagonaly across it. The sword will be blue, which will also be used on the plasms cannon. The main body of the gun will be black. The lenses will be red.

I am usure how to do the "wings" on the leg armour, and also on the ammount of freehand to put on it. I want it to look dark and ornately gothic as he is a special character.

C&C welcome.

Normaly its going to be a dreadnought, but i am also writing some fluff and special rules for it. I am creating a special character that is half machine half marine, to lead a special cyborg unit using all sorts of neat special rules.

I do intend to have him balenced though so for every advantage he has there is a drawback making it far more interesting tacticaly. But generaly this is just for fun and he will end up being one of my dreadnoughts.

I plan to make a whole squadron of them, 5 in total all in unique poses and with slight varations on this theme.

Not to be rude, but what's with those small, withered looking legs!? Why not hook this guy up with some tracks, and/or some cut done IG sentinel legs...If you have them laying around, take the bottom portion of some termie legs, metal or plastic, drill holes, add thick paper clips and GS, as well as guitar string for cables, now that would be some cyborg-looking, xenos killing, FALLEN HUNTING type  . As for stats, what profile where you going to give him?

Very nice conversion, but i would be tempted to make his legs less spindly. They don't look like they should be able to support his upper weight.

As for a profile, i think this guy would make a perfect dreadnaught. It has a ccw, and a plasma cannon. It just screams dreadnaught to me.

Thats a pretty good guess where I got inspiration from, I actualy was originaly inspired by the Mechas from Shirows Appleseed Books of which I have all 4. I wanted Mecha in my DA army and this is it sofar, I will add an update this evening as im in work at the moment. I have seen patlabor and i can see where you are coming from with that. Hopefully more will become clear as i pait it as its far to dark to see much on the previous pics. There will be 3 more mechas of this type in my army which, depending on how the desingn varies i may end up doing about 15 in total, however I hope to use seveal different designs and task them with different roles, eg devistator etc. These will all be based on shirows work, either from Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed.

Cheers for all the posotive resposes and more C&C very welcome.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a short update today, the gun is nearly complete with just the power fead cable to be finished, the sword is yet to be blended and the face and paldron need to be finished. There is some detailing that I need to do on the armour, mostly chapter symbols and heraldry and I plan to add some freehand to the dagger scabard. Also the base needs to be finished as the girders need rust etc.

I dunno, it doesn't look right at all for the 40K universe, it looks too much like original mech/borg and the only thing that even makes one notice any relation to the 40K universe is the plasmacannon. Other than that, I would think I came to the wrong forum when I read this post. What are those anyway, terminators? With plasmacannons? It's quite big for being a devastator or tactical marine...

Cheers
