Blood angels first company... some thoughts

Recommended Posts

Alrite then folks... I was originally planning to not update till I had the squad complete... but i find my drive had left me so took some pictures of incomplete bits n bobs :P now heres the important bit, some pictures:

Brother Agapeto from some different angles (note his foot snapped as did the termi honour and i took of the right arm... then i realised i dont have glue ;) )

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/termis/update/PICT0022.jpg

the chapter symbol looks somewhat :P because its not the forgeworld one and i suck :P (lazyness) the rest shall look better!

Heres a close up of the Crux arm:

I decided with the Crux I wanted something a bit different from the standard stone and bone one.. any thoughts on what Ive done? I like how the gold came out... also decided to do quite a few gems on the model where there possibly shouldnt be (inspiration would be joker)

So thats it for Agapeto, some things left to do on him: the storm bolter, the skull and cable on right arm, his name on the scroll on torso. Im also still thinking about highlighting up to orange for the armour but not sure..

Thoughts on the model?

The red for mr Assault cannon (cant remember his name :jaw: )

Heres Librarian Corvinus as he stands...

All the base colours have been put down other than black, it looks a bit messy as nothing is even half complete.. just a large number of base coloured areas etc.

any thoughts or ideas for things that should be painted on him?

and finally a teaser of the leg of the sergeant, you can almost make out details as it stands :P

Cheers and give me some feedback/ C&C!

Did you sculpt all of those little details by hand?

Whether you did or you didn't, I am thoroughly impressed.

One thing, though, is that they are a bit too shiny for me (so far) but whatever. Great Job!

There's some great work going on here, and the Librarian especially is well converted... However, if you look at the third painted pic you've posted, the side view one, you can see a mold line on the model's searchlight (or whatever it is) which should probably be filed off... Just a heads up because I think that keeping it would ruin the model's appearance, and they look great.

Personally I wouldn't highlight up to orange because I prefer a deeper, darker red, but that's up to you...

oh me oh my! some nice comments!

@ Joker: Cheers man, quite an honour you chose to comment on them  any hints and tips on battle damage and gems as I love how you do both (oh and faces too if youd like ^_^)

@ NoxI: Yea all details other than Agapetos Pad were hand sculpted, amusingly thats the only thing im not so keen on either :P so maybe I'll go back and hand sculpt one instead.. hmmm. About the shineyness... not sure why they look like that in the pictures, IRL they arent shiney at all ^_^

@ Angel Robertson: heh yea my willpower sort of sucks :P oh and get those termis started! havent got all that much time now!

@ Whitespeed: glad you like them ^_^

@ Aquilla: hmm it does a bit doesnt it, maybe I should make a diorama to slot him into with a floating stealer clutching its throat

@ The_chaplain: youd want me to convert some? add blindhamster@hotmail.com if you have msn, maybe I can give you some ideas and tips instead?

@ Stratokhan: Yeah I noticed that moldline when i did the pictures, its gone now. And I decided against orange too though I might still change my mind, especially considering BA's were once more orange than red anyway...

@ Ahmato: It snapped necaise the toes are seperate from the heel, this is because hes running not walking like the standard termi legs would be, see earlier pictures to see how it looks.

@ Maladon: Thanks man ^_^ Im still trying to work out a nice way to add an adamantite mantle as I want him to have it for the game...

thanks for the feedback folks, now hows about some more critisism? I want to know what people would change or re-do? Also any ideas for the next lot of models? keep the comments and thoughts comming! I'll update later on I hope so stay tuned

Is it just me or does the librarian look like he has a beer belly?
not a beer belly but an abdomen engorged with blood,

"Brother Librarian Mozzie"

yeah it does look a little large, as previously stated, perhaps a loin cloth or such?

@ ZAChos: no he does not have a beer belly, I think its just the angle of the camera. (or maybe he just drinks too much blood? :o)

@ Brother Scruffy: I'll be doing some freehand.

@ scrub: thanks mate

@DM: he already has a loin cloth.

:o oh yeah, the UM legs (insert slapping head smilie)

was the chest plate based off the FW RS plate? looking back thru the pics it looks a little weird in some angles but AWESOME in others (i think its the smaller legs)

that red is beautiful

Gems- Drastic, contrasting gems look the best, like the way you put the green gem on the red CF casing, gives a little extra pop. Also don't be afraid to try non-standard gem colors, I get more comments on my yellow, orange and light blue gems than the normal reds and greens.

Battle Damage- If you are going to use my method with metallics, remember to leave a black outline around the damaged area, or it will just look like sloppy silver.

Faces- That would be telling, now wouldn't it... The best advice I can give you is to use thin layers and not to be afraid of drastic colors. A 200+ year old warrior monk isn't going to have a baby-smooth face.

Again, I love the GS work, and am looking forword to the completed squad!
