Warsmith and sergeant

Recommended Posts

I think every good Hero needs a great Villain and it was while I was converting a new veteran sergeant to act as second in command for my Imperial Fists third company that I decided to finally convert a character I'd created a while ago.

Captain Malakai Kronan of the Iron Warriors has been around for a while but I've never really done anything with him, He is the complete opposite of Vermaas, While Vermaas is a survivor from the Novel 'Storm of Iron' (he only played a small part in the book) I decided to adopt the character and promote him to captain of the third company, Kronan himself has been alive for 10 thousand years and basically a juggernaut, he carries six power weapons that he's acquired from vanquished foes, I've decide to pit these two captains against each other as they are both hell bent on tracking down the Daemon Prince Warsmith (from the 'Storm of Iron' book) but for very different reasons.

The basic body is from an Obliterator with it's arms removed and replaced with a powerfist and storm bolter arm, instead of giving him a standard servo arm I decide to go one step further and give him a servo harness, I see Kronan as a type of large mechanical octopus and the servo harness needed a small bit of clipping and bending to allow the arms to reach round his body. One axe is taken from the new techmarine while the other is built from a number of different parts, the power swords are also taken from different sources and show the different type of marine characters he has slain. (better photos to come when the undercoat has dried)

He are a few shots of Veteran Sergeant Brutus I'm converting as well, I really Like Pasanius and Heagr (sp?)

and the fact they were so large they needed their armour customised to fit them and I tried to do the same with Brutus.

His legs are from a metal Terminator with a lot of green stuff used in between his legs and body to increase his height, to help bulk him out the company champions shoulder pads were used as well as giving him two very large bionic arms and a jump pack. the guy stands a full head taller then a normal marine.

Any comments or ideas on how to improve them are welcome especially on Kronan

The warsmith looks a little busy...like if one of his limbs was to even move that it would interfere with another.

I like the way that you tell us about the fluff behind each character. ;) Although I don't see any fluff for teh IF sgt. ;)

Speaking of the IF Sgt. I love this guys pose. I see you put him on a different base than when he was primed...why is that? :o

Brutus is second in command of the third company, his arms were pulled off in battle with an Ork Warlord before Brutus tore it's throat out with his bare teeth. Due to his injuries he was unable to take part in the siege of Hydra Cordatus (which saw most of the third company wiped out) He lost his left eye in battle with a Chaos Dreadnought.

In small games he uses the captain's rules, In larger games Vermaas leads and Brutus uses the normal veteran sergeant rules.

I've just swapped his base while he's being painted as I didn't want to ruin the it

i absolutely love the idea behind kronan. however, i feel that replacing those claw/clips on the servo arm with fist gripping the swords is heaps better visually. the obliterator body actually fits with the whole scheme but his arms wielding the power axes might seem rather awkward. maybe if they hold power swords instead, it would be more fitting? and have you tried this scheme on say a power armoured body? how did it turn out? servo harness too bulky?

That conversion is absolutely insane! (in a good way!) You know..he reminds me of that guy from the Star Wars movies (the new ones) you know the cyborg guy with like.... 4 light sabers.

General Grievous was his name I think?

Okay some reworking on the servo harness has been done so it doesn't look to cluttered, some of the parts have been chopped off and swapped to get the arms in the right position. I then had the idea that Kronan has his armour covered in his own flayed skin (which needs to be dry bushed) the main reason for this was so I could get some extra colour in by having his face red to represent his muscles. The horn on his head is a bionic replacement of an old mutation, I've also lowered his right arm so his face can be better seen as the old pose made it hard to see his head. I got the idea that Kronan and his Grand Company are mercenaries, flitting their services from one Warsmith to another which would explain why he doesn't carry the title 'Warsmith' even though he is clearly their equal (and in some cases more)

Holy Crap that is one nice warsmith :D

The sergeant is also quite cool, as is the concept, behind all of this. For a moment there, looking at the title, I thought you had turned from an IF loyalist to an IW :(

And there we have have it a finished Captain Kronan, now this doesn't mean I'm going to start an Iron Warriors army (It seems nothing will drag me away from my Imperial Fists), though I find when it comes to the IF and the IW it's hard to like one and not the other (IMO anyway) I think next up is a conversion of Dreadnought Tialo (former IF 2nd company captain) And an IW Dreadnought

Err, why does he have a IF banner on his shoulder? I can see no reason why an Iron Warrior would carry a small banner of the legion he hates the most. You warsmith harboring some plans of trying to return to the imperium? ;)

Other than that he looks nice, tho his face reminds me of some overweight 60 yearolds face after having ran 10meters... Red as berrysoup. If you could paint some striped highlights on his face, it might accentuate his lack of skin, and not look like he's out of shape. Come to think of it, oblies have pretty respectable girth.

You haven't based him yet, so don't call him finished yet ;)

Cheers

In the background of the picture with the assault sergeant there's a marine with a cape holding his helmet and a hand on his sword. is that a conversion or an actual GW model?
It's scratch built based on the artwork of Captain Taelos in Codex Tau

Err, why does he have a IF banner on his shoulder?

It's a Trophy from the last Imperial Fist Captain that dared cross him (needless to say he was never seen again) He likes to mock people.

He may no longer need that base if he gets the upgrades he's looking for :D (More on that at a much later date, though it includes an extra 3 pairs of bionic legs)
