Chevrons and vehicle interiors...

Recommended Posts

Right, well Im painting up a Predator, but first I want to get the interior done. Usually Im lazy and I just glue the hatches shut, but this time I actually want to have a go at the inside :) So, I was wondering, could you guys show me some pics of your vehicle interiors? Im not quite sure as to how I should go about painting mine, especially the little tile with the screen and the bolter. Im going to paint the pred for the Angels Sanguine Chapter, so any suggestions for interior colours or designs would be highly appreciated  Also, can anyone be so kind as to point me to a chevron painting tutorial? Im having a bit of trouble doing them myself :)

Cheers,

For the interior it always looks more interesting if it's somehow contrasting.

And for the chevron. It's that yellow/black striped warning pattern, isn't it?

Paint the yellow first until you have a complete coverage. If you know how to use masking tape or similair stuff then use it. I just paint the black lines but thin so I know where they should be and so I have some regular direction. Then I make thse thicker but slowly and until it's finished. If I need (and I almost always do) I repaint some of the yellow (but I go over the areas with something that has a better coverage fisrts; something like Codex Grey) and then I have to repaint some of the black and then yellow again, black..., yellow..., until I am finished. No secret, just dedication.

For chevrons I paint a a black base. Then I paint the chevrons in fiery orange. I make 2 successive highlights by adding white to the fiery orange. Then I wash the chevrons with a thin sunburst yellow. Then I highlight by painting highlights with pure white.

When painting chevrons, you need to learn to just make straight lines with your hand first, then when you find a position in which you feel your hand is stable in doing linear movement, you twist the model to suit that position, you don't try to paint chevrons in different positions. Or at least that how I do it. I find that I can paint pretty straight lines if I paint away from myself.

Cheers

Hey im in the process of doing the interior of my rhino for my dark angels.

A contrasting colour on the inside looks good also a bright colour so you can easily see inside (i did bone - contrasts with dark green and is nice and bright).

So for blood angels you could do white or grey (like dragonforges) or even bone i spose.

Any way here's the pics:

Hope it helps

the thing with the vehicle interieris that you only really see then on a rhino or landraider because marines are gonna jumping out of them, with a predator the crew arent going to really get out and leave an empty tank there.

That said you could model the inside a bit to fit with the inside of the predator (extra ammo, the bottom bit of the turret etc) there is a great poster of what it should look like its the one with a fantasy chaos chapmion on the otherside. It may be in one of the IA articles, i dont know.

but any way. hope this helps.

For, chevrons stick a strip of masking tape onto a board or cutting mat and cut into appropriate sized strips , by sticking it down first it makes it easier to handle, and, if you havent bought the low tack variety, removes some of the stickiness so you wont strip layers of paint of your mini or leave resdue.

Cut the strips into the desired length, allowing a little extra to wrap over corners and for you to grip hold of to remove. Then simply apply it in the desired pattern over a black base coat, remember parallell.

To paint the yellow i base coat the open spaces with vomit brown (several thin layers of course :) ), then work up to sunburst yellow , with final highlights with yellow and skull white mix.

Remove tape, touch up any seepage with thinned black paint, highlight black with what ever recipe you feel is best.

Et voila

chevrons/ hazard stripe all done

hope that helps
