Soul Drinkers color scheme

Recommended Posts

The book covers would be the best example to go on, they are always depicted with purple armour and gold trim. The only painted example I've seen is this

Sarpedon conversion

go to Black library's site if you want to see the book covers (i'm guessing you've already read the books though)

Given what ive noticed of the artwork, their armor color seems to be a bit of a bluie-purple tint and the trims seem to be a bone color OR gold.

The basic route would be to use liche purple + gold for trims, unless you want to play around with it. Try some color tests with that color scheme, or maybe do a complete purple mini do one side of the marine with a gold shoulder pad trim and the other in a bone color and see what looks better. From there, if you cant happy with the liche purple you can try and experiment around.

Midnight blue would be an EXCELLENT color, however 1. it looks better wet than it does dry and 2. its still quite dark.

Fear not, young painter!

Some years ago (when the novels were new) I painted up a SD cpt/vet.

Here's a pic: (My apologies for the worse-than-bad picture, I scanned him back then. As I don't own him anymore, I can't take a better pic.)

Sould you like it, here's the basic setup:

Armour: Chaos Black / Liche Purple - Liche Purple - Liche Purple / Skull White ~countless shades. Can't remember how many.

Ivory Trim: Snakebite Leather - Bleached Bone - Skull White ~again, layers as you see fit.

Gold: I'm not sure anymore.. I'd do: Brazen Brass - Shining Gold - Shining Gold / Mithril Silver now. (And I'd leave the trims off the armour now..)

Note the black fingers and feet, as on the first novel cover.

Hope this helps. Send me a PM or answer here, if you need more info. :P

Cheers,

AG

EDIT: Gotta love my archive. Here's a nice big shot of the cover that I saved from some site ages ago:

Ancient god: I really like that guy! both the pose and the colours! really inspiring!

think I gonna ditch my attempts at flesh Tearers and try one of those instead..

and I just told a friend that I am gonna borrow his Soul Drinker books! :P

Primarch111: coloursschemes are always a little up to interpretation, as you can see on most chapters GW have done, if you look for it, so use what seems fitting to you! (like the above one!)

ancient god: You never cease to amaze me. I love your minis because they are not overly converted, just beautifully painted.

As for the paint scheme, if you notice both ancient god's mini and the book cover, their shoulder pad trim is bone colored (though veterans/officers may have gold accents, as can be seen on sarpedon himself.
