Doghouse
The Silent: Excellent mate! Really glad to see people taking the idea and making it their own. The plasticard plates on the back are a really nice touch as well. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90388-modelling-doghouse-pattern-gothic-marines/page/4/#findComment-1207352 Share on other sites

El Chupacabra
Thank you for the excellent inspiration. I was experimenting with different marine designs for my upcoming Iron Warriors, and these hit the nail right on the head. I have a few variations on the theme that I will post shortly! Incendium
Okay, I fixed up that model I posted awhile back, and hopefully it looks better. After taking pictures, I can still seem some rough areas (especially on the right greave) that need cleaning up. And yes, he is from the Salamanders Chapter. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j168/Incendium89/Golden%20Demon/IMG_7312.jpghttp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j168/Incendium89/Golden%20Demon/IMG_7313.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90388-modelling-doghouse-pattern-gothic-marines/page/4/#findComment-1219637 Share on other sites
Terminatorinhell
how do you go about putting the arms on the cape parts and putting the cape on the figure? Incendium
The arms are cut at the elbow pads and with some greenstuff filling, they fit pretty well in the sockets already there. For the cape, you have to cut off some of the plastic in the cape piece which connects to the regular WFB Chaos Warrior front body piece. Once that part is shaved down (I can take a picture of this on another model if you like), you just have to fit the Space Marine front torso piece into that place, and fill the gap between the legs and the torso with greenstuff. Doghouse
Looking excellent Incendium, really nice job on the GS scales as well. Bigdog
Doghouse:In your tutorial link you show the gothic marine conversion next to a heightened marine. I know this is maybe a little off topic but how did you make the regular marine taller? was it just a case of pinning the torso on with a bit of a gap and filling in with GS? I'm working on a new SM army (haven't started building yet, still thrashing out ideas) but I'm a little fed up with catachans and guardsmen being as big as my marines. Could you show me how you grow 'em big please? Doghouse
Sure, this is the guy before painting so you can see where I've altered the regular plastic marine. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b141/Doghouse12/World%20Eaters/Captain.jpg It's a simple technique but tricky to master. I cut the greaves in half and added a 2mm spacer of plasticard then glued the legs back together. The trick is when you extned the legs the angle of the greave is altered so when you add the spacer the legs will bend inwards. What you need to do is carefully cut the top of the lower half of the greaves so that it is flat. You'll also need to shave the greave down as well as it'll be wider above the spacer than below. It's best to practice a bit on an old mini. Once you've got that you add a another spacer between the groin and the torso. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90388-modelling-doghouse-pattern-gothic-marines/page/4/#findComment-1239429 Share on other sites

Gillyfish
Well, here's my first attempt at a Gothic marine. It's also my first attempt at anything approaching major sculpting work. Overall I'm quite pleased. C&C are welcome! http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gi...10/DSCF0053.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gi...10/DSCF0054.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gi...10/DSCF0055.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gi...10/DSCF0056.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90388-modelling-doghouse-pattern-gothic-marines/page/4/#findComment-1242125 Share on other sites

Gillyfish
Weird. They worked when I posted them in the DA forum. Okay try the ones below instead. Gillyfish
Thanks very much! I started off trying to use water to keep it smooth but found that, rtaher than having a nice film on the tool, I merely got water everywhere else! So I switched to vaseline and found that that worked far better. Other than that it was simply a case of following Doghouse's instructions. I'll definitely make some more of these guys at some point! McFers0n
I think that all of the work you guys have done is awesome! I especially like the trick to heighten the marines I just did it to a tactical squad and they look so much more proportional. I do have one question for doghouse though; where did you get all of the bare heads, particularly the ones on your dark angel and black templar commander. I do have one question for doghouse though; where did you get all of the bare heads, particularly the ones on your dark angel and black templar commander. The plastic Space Marine Commander comes with a few bare head options. Some other places to look are the Space Wolves sprue, Land Speeder sprue, Biker sprue, Dark Angels sprue, Chaos Warrior sprue (will have to trim off the horns if you're doing Imperials), & some other various Fantasy sprues. McFers0n
Thanks for the help. I have the land speeder, space wolves, commander, and biker sprues, but I ended up finding the head I wanted on ebay. fumble
Thanks for a great technique Doghouse. I've made a vet sarge with that technique - and I am quite pleased with it. Doghouse
Gillyfish: That's awesome mate! Great job on the greaves and the butt plate is really even. Look forward to seeing more. :) fumble: He looks great mate, nice use of the CW Cloak as well as the additional GS detailing. Nice work. :) If you guys carry on the way you're going I'm going to be out of a job! :D McFers0n: The Dark Angel was the Terminator head from the standard Terminator squad and the BT one is from the BT Sprue. Superknijn: I'm not entirely sure what the Librarium is all about as I rarely venture out into the other forums. :D What would you want an article about?
