The question I always wonder about ...

I personally believe that since the Ad Mech uses such a great range of weaponry some of it Xenos. I would say that Dark Eldar could be used for a suitable candidate for the Mechanicus. Reason #1 for the fact that they start with FNP, reason #2 the large variant of units and weaponry, reason #3 anti-grav technology

The one downside to them is that they have fleet.

well... i currently base my rogue-mech on C:CSM... you get a nice mix of big crazy things (DP, defiler, oblits) and some interesting infantry. only downside is that it lacks that more-squishy-than-marine basic infantry (so am leaning towards vanilla SM for scouts for skitarii)

for the fact that they start with FNP

well. must disagree there as iam currently building a DE army lately... they GENERALLY wont have FNP till they have wiped out a unit (this can however, be tricked out by adding in haemonculi or using a coven list)... must say that it actually could be a pretty sweet option to represent AdMech though (if ensuring as much fnp as possible) however i feel like its abit too fragile in general (and poisonous, though you COULD say "thats becouse this weapon does electroshock to kill...")

could work if made right though...

I think one of the reasons mechanicus are better off without an official dex is because each person has their own interpretation as to skitarii are like, whether you preferred large troop big gun approach of Guard or a more elite aspect, you can pretty much use anything as long as it fit the needs of their respected forge.

for the Martian ademch (loyalist doesn't fit right, since they're a parallel-empire) i've been using scout-heavy C:SM since they have ample guns, tanks, antigrav vehicles which fit my personal view that admech skitarii are better stated than humans due to augmentation and the fluff about them being well at HtH, but not quite space marines. Using bikes for "counts as" praetorians, dreads and termies as robot maniples.

Much more methodical, more steel over flesh.

Though for my dark mechanicus, who are no longer adherent to the dogma of repetition or allegiance to the False-Omnissiah, and while lacking in stable supply of resources or libraries of databanks, have learned to innovate using the resources available to them, such as geno-enhanced mutant stocks, techno-virus and daemonic possessed machines.

I have 2 lists in mind for this, the first is more focused on mechanized aspect using BA list with scouts as Hyspasists, death company as berserk praetorians...while they don't score their stats I think cover the elite nature of HtH combat, firing bolters (or some las-carbine equivalent) on the move, FNP due to augmentation...and of course access to manga-grapple dread-engines seeking to ensnare titans so that the squads of attackbikes acting as small mobile weapon-platform Cataphractii can snipe them with meltabursts.

The second list, only recently decided upon is a nidzilla list...if a Nemesis Dreadknight is a machine model with MC stats, then why can't I have a slightly longer ranged squad of these guys running train with mutant-servitor hordes in front.

Granted they aren't true vehicle stats, but I see that as neither game disadvantage nor as an infringement in fluff; being a bizarre symbiote of flesh, machine and daemon. their weapons are actually an extension of their body.

Tervigons could be walking warp-gates enabling a horde of mutant-techguard to teleport on the battlefield, or even more sinister necro-mancer machine gobbling up slaves and the bodies of the dead and churning them out as combat thralls.

Carnifexes as small knight-errants packs pinning infantry as they make their way to smash tanks aside with their massive combat mauls.

plus a few MC with psyker weapons acting as sorcerers entombed in dreadnought shells directing their hordes in combat.

Hive Guard as robot maniples. Biovores as artillery cannons...etc etc

I run an army converted from Space Marines, use them as SM / SW / CSM. I'm planning to add some jump-pack dudes and run them as SoBs when the WD list comes out... Pics here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=205199

I have been thinking about doing a feral skitarii force, using Ork rules...

Re: Tyranids, I love this Tyranid-counts-as force: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/229548.page

I'm actually using the Eldar Codex to represent my WIP Ad Mech. It's a little old, but they have a number of good points:

1. They're an elite army, which means it's easier to model/paint an army.

2. They have Jetbikes, Grav Tanks, Monstrous Creatures and Walkers. For me that was the basic checklist of what is necessary in terms of an Ad Mech army. The ability to field Knight Titans is almost mandatory.

3. Psychic powers manifesting as archanotech powers are a nice plus too!

My first AdMech force, back in 3rd ed, used Codex: Eldar. It was just 750pts or around that, a little force for a narrative campaign I was running. I liked the way the Farseers/Warlocks related to the troops- to me it made sense to have a group of Tech Priests who were then split up between the Tech Guard.

My list was a very shooty one- lots of Dark Reapers...
