WhiteScars Army Project

I have set a 40K goal.

My WhiteScars Army will be done by Thanksgiving!

This army is 2000 points. I have played it, and I had a great time.

So much so, that it pains me to see it unpainted on the table.

The painful part is behind me. Building the army. It is all put together, primered, and ready for color.

20 Bikes, 6 Attack Bikes, 6 Land Speeders, 10 Scouts, 5 Terminators, 1 Whirlwind, 1 Chaplain.

So, here is my first model. (Base not finished yet.)

This is my first attempt at battle damage. I also wanted to make the army somewhat dirty.

C&C welcome.

(Not only is 'white' hard to paint, but MAN - it is also hard to photograph.)

Out of every army in the 40k universe, I hate the White Scars the most. However, your paint skills make them look excellent. Keep turning out stuff like this and I might find myself hating them just a little bit less :P Any chance you can post a recipe for your white?

I really like the model. That's pretty much what I would try to accomplish with White Scars. It almost looks like you dry brushed white over bone, or vice versa? I like the sublte dirt look from the bleached bone.

I don't really have a critism except the eyes. The eyes are very much just 'there' compared to the detail put into the rest of the model.

Man that's a small looking 2000 pt army. Have you had any games with it?

in my opinion the red needs changing, blood red isnt a very good highlight for scab unless its washed over well..its too bright and not the same hue of red, and it always looks awkward(scab is browny, blood is orangey)

look at the Cruz and look at the fist in that picture, they even look like 2 different shades of red, as do the boots and the armour designs

i really do love the white, if you didnt do the battle damage weathering look it might of looked beige however, but right now the way youve done it it looks good

i dont like the eagle, it looks too...i donno just ugly colour i guess

like the way you did the black as well

Woooahhh, you've got some painting skills..

Battle damages are more than ok. (which means: "I'm jealous" :D )

This white is incredible.. :P

Most of us would like to have that recipe of yours to paint white that way, that' s right !!

Just add some WS iconography here and there (right shoulderpad at least), a thin black/dark brown line between white and red on the left foot, and that will be the best WS termi ever !!

Congrats !

The painted miniature looks great. There are only two little things that somehow don't work for me.

First: Colour scheme

The Crux Terminatus, chest eagle and little decorations don't work that good for me with the yellow. But I don't know how ofiicial that is or how official you want it. I would use a very low saturation so that it's not exatly black/grey/white but still has some life in it. The value (brightness) I would contrast with the underlying element. So I would use high value for stuff that is on the Storm Blter and low value (dark greyish) for the chest eagle. That would make the whole colour scheme more "realistic" and less "cartoony" and I think that would look better with the white and red and good and rather realistic overall work on the miniature.

The blood: I would paint it a bit darker, more dried. Then it would not fight with the red detail for attention.

The eyes: The red works nice but I would try something different, medium to dark green, blue purple or something between these. Then the eyes would not clash witht the red warpaint on the helmet.

Second: painting quality

The whole miniature is painted very, very good (fromthe pictures) so little pieces that are not up to that standard are easier to spot.

The skull on the right gauntlet as well as all four (left shoulder, right side of the Stormbolter next to the wing, right knee pad, belt buckle) crux terminatus icons seem to be a bit rushed (in comparison the the rest). They seem to miss the depth of the rst of the miniature. They look a bit tacked on.

The battle damage is good, just the form and position of on does look a bit off. It's on the right shoulder pad and has the for of a triangle near the edge. It's okay to place it on the edge but the position is cutting the edge in thirds and it's next to the triangle cut from the lower armour plate (and it's repeating the triangleform).

It really is a great quality miniature (especially for army painting) but the better it is the easier the little faults are to spot.

Great start there! now finish the rest of the army ^_^ I am jealous, after three years off and on trying to paint DW I am in awe... You are a better man/ woman than I. I have been tempted to do painted battle damage and now I will. Thank you, it was a pleasure looking at your work! Keep posting WIP pics

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I fixed the eyes.

Added a symbol on the right shoulder. (I plan to refine it with some more definition.)

Fixed the bullet hole on the knee.

Toned down the yellow in the chest plate.

Toned down the bright red on the icons all around.

Added some battle damage to the PowerFist.

Time to move on to the other 4 in the squad.

Really nice job. I think some of mario's comments were good and I like what you've done to try and tone down some areas.

As The Defiler asked.....what is your secret for painting white? I know there have been a few threads on it but I was wondering what your secret is. It looks very good.
