He guys,

I just need your help for a few things...

I've recently acquired an old metal used, painted model of Abaddon the Despoiler and it saddened me that he was too small, too stocky, and well...

he just wasn't the big hyped arch enemy of the Imperium that every Commissar with a Bolt Pistol has mentioned and feared...

So, I got myself the new Chaos Terminator Lord and converted Abaddon the Despoiler to be up to date...

So here he is still missing a few baubles and whatnots... going to add a few chains, a few hooks and skulls and a few dangling things on that tabard of his...

And for scale:

But now I am at a crossroad and I need your opinion...

Cape or no Cape?

I'm pretty decent at making capes, and I have a few of them here at my disposal for this guy, but should he be the classic cape-less Abaddon or should he be the Black Caped Crusader?

If you've ever watched the incredibles... You would know to never go cape. It ALWAYS ends bad. But since your a heritic, I say go for it :D

Nice conversion.

I changed my mind. Don't do a cape, do a fur pelt. Those ALWAYS look awesome.

@War Angel: If the cape is torn and tattered enough then it shouldn't get caught on anything :p... and even if it does, well, there goes another tear :D

Thanks for all the feedback, I went to my LGS and it was more of a mixed bag... people would say classic Abaddon while others would say that he needs more volume...

he is the Warmaster after all...

So after some deliberation and hearing the statement of all parties and the jury... the court now decrees Abaddon wears a cape :D

After a few mocking about, experimentation and tutorials on how to use Greenstuff without it ending up getting stuck on the carpet, here is the result:

I was going to use the Warhammer Fantasy Chaos Lord on Maticore mantle... but that involves buying the Chaos Lord on Manticore model again :p the standard cape that comes with the Chaos Terminator Lord wouldn't work either as the flow of the hair, tabard, and small dangly things on the model goes in the capes opposite direction...

so Greenstuff it is... just need to watch/read 10+ or so tutorials on making the blasted thing and making sure that it is tattered and bold enough to fit the back of someone as notorious and infamous as Abaddon the Despoiler.

Added a fur sort of Daemonic wolf on his back... the once "Luna Wolf" he had that after spending 10,000 years trapped in the Eye has mutated and would sometimes stir as if possessed...

I don't really collect Chaos Space Marines at the moment and I'm just starting it, so I don't really have that many Chaos bling :p (Chaos fantasy maybe, but CSM not really...)

So I made do with what I have and added chains for more... Chaos-y effect

The only thing I'm iffy about the moment is the mid-section, champion belt thing... I can't tear it off... and I don't know how to fix it bar increasing the front armors bulk...

So what do you think? Comments and Suggestions all welcome...

And if you think he's ready then say "PAINT!"

ABADDON CALLS! WILL YOU ANSWER?

I think it looks good.  This stuff is all supposed to be legendary and super stylized anyway!  I say toss a coat of primer on him and take another peek to see if anything looks out of place (for some reason I always find flaws after I prime) and then go to town :)

Not really finished yet... just thought of posting the WIP...

Painting is usually done whenever there is a rest time between real life and Templars, close to getting finished but still needs quite a bit of work.

Featuring... Abaddon the Despoiler.... Son of Horus, Lord of the Black Legion, Warmaster of Chaos: 80% complete

aaaaaannnnd... he's done!

and boy am I glad at that...

Note to self: never buy a prepainted model... ever!

The original Abaddon, where I got Drach'nyen and the Talon of Horus was painted really badly when I bought him off a 2nd hand store... so badly in fact that they used a paint that I think was never meant to be used for little toy soldiers... even when the model was metal, the paint wouldn't come off... even with simple green it wouldn't wash off... I needed to scrape it off and that also meant destroying the details on the model...

well...it had to be done... I didn't want to buy a brand new Abaddon model just to chuck pieces of it away and forget it ever existed... that's what cheaper 2nd hand models are for.

Just to show you guys what the original model looked like he looks like this:

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o622/Marshal_Roujakis/Warhammer%2040k%20Displays/Chaos/DSC_0201_zpswieqp3qa.jpg

(note that this model was soaked for a week in a solution much more corrosive than simple green or Thinner alone...)

Well here is the finished model:

Abaddon the Despoiler,

Warmaster of the Chaos,

Chosen Champion of the Dark Gods

Lord of the Black Legion,

Keeper of the Talon of Horus,

Wielder of Drach'nyen,

Destroyer of Cadia

Archenemy of the Imperium of Man

Front

(Couldn't do the Chaos Icon belt thing... didn't know where to get it from and don't have enough confidence to make it myself. He didn't feel right as well without those tube things at his chest... he just wasn't bulky enough)

Right

(Need more practice making fur... happy with what I got, but not really fully satisfied... did that make sense? dry.png The wolfs ear disappeared as well... good thing there was a horn there so it's not really that noticeable)

Back

(Thanks for everyone who suggested the cape :) Glad he has one and glad of the opportunity to paint it. Note the different types of arrows for the Chaos insignia... different ones for different gods of ruin)

Left

(The trophy rack is customized as well, a Chaos Lord with such Infamy and legacy as Abaddon needs a trophy rack suitable for the greatest champion of Chaos)

Pose

(his base needed to be simple though... the one who thought me different styles of making models has once said: "The base can create or destroy a model... a bad model painted badly can still look good if the base is intricate, detailed and well painted. A well painted model can still look bad if the base is non-existent. You have to see the model to determine what base you would have." So I decided to have a very plain base for a very intricate and detailed model.

Drach'nyen

This is where majority of my gripe was... the paint was so thick in the recesses that the details for the sword were practically non-existent... I had to paint some of the details back on using the internet for pictures of Drach'nyen... the entire thing was a chore furious.gif

Talon of Horus

The talon is something that I loved about the Abaddon model, it looked Rogue Trader era, with a mix of 41st era grimdark and the fact that it belonged to Horus, and was used to kill Horus' clone was just awesome :) Note the dried blood on the claws, Abaddon never washed the claw since he claimed it on board the Vengeful Spirit... I wanted it to be stained with the blood of Sanguinius, the Emperor and Horus himself, making it one of the deadliest and feared weapon in Warhammer 40,000

Close-up

Note to new hobbyists: If you're going to paint details on models and you want to be intricate, try to paint faces seperate from the model... I didn't at first and the claw kept getting in the way of his eye... there was soooo many attempts that it got frustrating... so I ripped his head off and repainted the entire face.

Scale

he's with the Old Abaddon and a Word Bearer Terminator Lord concept that I'm making just so you could scale him over the 2 others

Hope you liked it. Not repainting him anytime soon... he was a pain to begin with :p Suggestions and comments for development of any future projects are welcome :)
