What can we expect?

What will happen?

New rules, what will help us in the game and what rules will stand against us.

My big fear this time is that all we used to have (our melee squad - the Crusader squad) is now aviable for each chapter. My big fear is that it will be common to see them more as a typical White Scars unit instead (because they really have better rules so far)...

on the other hand, now we have THE choice we ever wanted.

Look at those characters! Look at the ancient!

Black Templarifying these guys is going to be EPIC!

Unit count, the picture's contents are:

  1. 10 Assault Intercessors (likely two squads)
  2. 3 of the Sword & Board guys
  3. Lieutenant with Sword & Board
  4. Captain with Sword & Board
  5. 3 Primaris Outriders (Bikers)
  6. 3 Hellfuries (gonna call them that until they get officially named)
  7. a new Ancient
  8. New chaplain
  9. Judicar (the Chaplain sword guy)

the playester in the Discord I'm in said this about the swordguy "Chaplain":

"he is like a Primaris champion and not a chaplain

He is called the Judicar

And he is a beast

It’s an elite choice not an HQ

And makes an enemy unit fight last"

So yes. This is the Assault Wave. Black Templars rejoice.

An assault wave of models in an edition which is better for CC. Awesome.

I think I missed something. What about 9e is supposed to be better for CC?
It was mentioned in the full twitch stream. Pete Foley was keen on it. Combination of better terrain rules and other tweaks. For instance, more flexible rules on bringing in reserves could be useful for getting units closer. Edited by Brother Adelard

That executioner sword... They were so close to perfection. Cant stab stuff like that.

It's a reference to executioner's swords from history. Some of them were like that. I love it.
Im gonna do a bit of cutting to it.

Let me plan a conversion... the dude with the skellie standart wih that executioner sword... hmmm

Now there is an idea! Maybe the executioner with the skeleton storm shield?

The ancient with a tabard is cool, but the standard looks like it was lifted straight from AoS, probably he only thing that irks me about anything in that pic.

Hopefully the shield units have options for hammers.

Exactly what I thought

we dont know that yet

The only part I'm not excited about are the Hellfuries (I mean, I'm assuming the Melta guys are them).

they looking great too.

In general they all look perfect to me.

With our current rules the addition of bikes with close combat weapons (even if its just Chainswords) are more than a great unit for us, yes WS might still give them a better use but with Devout Push and Emperors Will then these W3 A3(5 with Chainswords) T5 units will not only shoot well but deal a decent amount of damage really fast in our hands, at worst they will be used to tie units down.

Everything about these new models is lovely, my only complain is how to deliver those sword and board dudes into combat since they dont have guns besides pistols so an impulsor does nothing for them for a turn at which case it might be better to put them in a Repulsor and just move and fire but the models are lovely.

The chainsword Intercessors are also a bit weird since normal Intercessor do enough damage in combat for a troop choice plus they have long range weapons, these guys better have some other buff because otherwise they do nothing that isnt already being done better by other troop choices (Phobos have reach and Intercessors are useful throughout the game), they wont reach combat until turn 2 with an Impulsor or 3 on foot, they dont hold objectives since you want to throw them into the enemy, its just a weird unit but we will see whats in their rules.

I am very happy, this whole release screams Black Templar more than anything else.

very hyped about that models. The Judicar seems to be a perfect fit too because of style and his rules.

A GW member said that he has the ability that enemies always fight last. Thats very good if the whole army can charge.

Other Marine chapter must buff one unit to get a charge done. We have the ability for each unit as Chapter tactic, so we used to have the problem of interupting enemy units. If the melee rules getting better, we could have a lot of fun this edition and maybe are on a good spot.
