Coming back to 40k after SoB update.
Warsmith Aznable replied to Warsmith Aznable's topic in + ADEPTA SORORITAS +
Thanks for the input. I put some Celestian Sacrestans together yesterday, armed with the halberds. These seem like an "auto include" if I'm thinking about this correctly, maybe as a retinue for Vahl. I play OML, so I guess the big blob of BSS would be a good thing to continue to maximise "being under starting strength" time. The characters are extremely tempting to want to play, but I have to say that getting a Palatine option for a cheap HQ is also extremely attractive. I'm about to have two days off, so maybe I can paint these new girls.- 2 replies

How did you get into the hobby and when?
Warsmith Aznable replied to Cyrox's topic in + AMICUS AEDES +
Grew up playing 2E AD&D, quit when I joined the army. After I got out (and got divorced) I met a guy who invited me to play 4E D&D. I had no books or dice any more, so I visited a very good game shop. There was a HUGE section of 40k stuff and I had never seen anything like it. I mentioned it to one of the guys I was now gaming with, and he said he used to play. Every time I went to that store for D&D stuff I kept eyeballing the 40k minis. The 4th edition Chaos Space Marine codex was intensely interesting to me. Eventually I ended up opening it and staring at it. Next thing I know I'm buying it and a one of those old three figure push fit boxes "since I needed to practice painting" for my D&D character mini. I sometimes miss 5th edition. Simple times, simple fun. -

Assemble and paint Morvenn Vahl and Paragon warsuits, play a few small games, and maybe tryout Necromunda since I always said I would if they re-released Redemptionists as a faction. My goals are small, but I've been out for a minute, you know?

How might Squats return to the setting?

Hot idea GW can have from me for free: Squats come back in a sub-faction of Tyranids. Check it out, Genestealers pave the way for a Tyranid hive fleet, then you have the hive fleet invasion, but then you could have a sort of Tyranid rear guard of misfits and aberrations left behind to "reseed" the galaxy for a future culling. Like the original multi-xenos faction concept for Tau, only much MUCH weirder. -

It's been a while since I played or posted here. In previous editions with my metal army I ran something like: Celestine + Seraphim to create enemy backfield havoc Canoness warlord hidden in an Immolator with BSS to spend the entire game trying to dodge giving up a Slay the Warlord point to my opponent Dominion spam as my main combat force to overpower MEQ and TEQ saves Retributers with HB to lay down fields of fire to protect my lines and camp backfield objectives Occasionally a single giant blob BSS to tarpit and bolter spam the center pretty much all MSU in an extremely typical midfield run and gun style. I'm coming back to maybe playing again and I've got Morvenn Vahl and the Paragon warsuits and the models are so cool there is no way I cannot use them. How are people fielding them? How do they work on the table? What do they replace in a typical list and what usually supports them best? I know that's pretty broad, but I did a search and did not see a topic specifically about how people are using these two units.

X4 Stormbolter Dominions are totally a thing (x5 with the Superior), and you can get 3 Stormbolters in a BSS by x2 special and 1 on the Superior.

We have no psychic phase, so I reckon our current AoF set up is pretty fair. Our ability to use them multiple times a turn is mitigated by the Imagifier tax and it being a chance roll. I understand some opponents getting flustered by a well set up and luckily rolled AoF phase, but I've sat through too many psychic phases eating wounds and removing models with no real defense to have sympathy for them.

I am greatly relieved that the aesthetic is not changing. I can at least look forward to the models now, though anxiety over the rules still remains.

Played a couple of social pick up games last night. 500 point lists, six people, random teams of 3. I purged in game 1: a squad of Crusaders, a Primaris Psyker, a Commissar, a Vindicare, two squads of Tempestus Scions. My team lost, but it was a close, hard fought game. I very well could have won it for us in the last turn, but my dice turned against me when rolling my autohits for my handflamers. It was a fun game. Game 2 was a tragedy best not discussed. :(

Put in the work to translate stats and it's as compatible as you make it. The next trick is convincing people your conversion is balanced or fair. With GW it doesn't even have to be either because it's official, but such is life.
-
That sounds dangerously like logic. GW has a habit of defying expectations built on pattern recognition.

I've got some from the Prospero box. I have been thinking about painting black highlights on them for mourning and saying they hang out with my OML for penance reasons, being part of a subfaction who weren't willing to stop feeling bad about the Custodes letting the Emperor be lost to the Golden Throne.

At least everything in the bundle is useable. There are no stinkers in the collection, as far as I can tell. It's not the starter bundle I would have planned, but it is all stuff SoB players will need. I feel that it's not as bad as some are saying. I think if you're comparing it to other armies you're always going to decide it's not worth it. But if you're committed to wanting to play Sisters and want to invest in an instant small collection with a variety of representative models and units, I think this works. I think two squads of Battle Sisters should have been the core. As it is it's a bit more of a "sampler pack" rather than the foundation of a playable army. I think that is a valid criticism of the bundle. Metal vs plastic and the price thereof, not so much. Sisters are metal, and it is what it is, for now. EDIT: I looked again, and two BSS are indeed included, so I withdraw that criticism. I am on my cruddy phone and don't have my reading glasses...
-
That is interesting. I don't recall any formation of that name or configuration,so I think it's new. I would guess it's in response to an interest in Sisters expressed in the big customer poll.

How does it turn?
