  1. Exactly so which should I buy? Interesting to know its a lower profile good tip Dealer's choice, really. Which one do you think looks cooler? Go with that one. I happened to have a few plastic Vindicator kits laying around that I thought would make cool conversion fodder, so that made the choice for me.
  2. I've had great results with the laser destroyer. Both have their pros and cons- Pred has longer range, Vindicator is a bit harder to kill (T8)/easier to get into cover (lower profile), Vindicator is more reliably killy but the Pred has a higher damage potential (2 shots of flat 6 or 4 shots of flat 3 damage vs 4 shots of D6 damage).
  3. If a simple augmented human that could be manufactured by the millions could rip through power armor with ease and was as fast, agile, and accurate as Astartes, the Emperor probably wouldn't have even bothered with the Astartes program in the first place...
  4. According to the latest CSM Codex, the Dominion of Fire has Angron overrunning 70 SECTORS in 2 centuries, with the Imperium taking about 3,000 years to retake 90% of it. For reference, this would be the equivalent of Macharius not dying at the end of his crusade and continuing on at about the same pace for 2 centuries, and the fact that GW hasn't written anything more than a paragraph about this is a damned travesty. As far as military conquests go, this seems a bit more impressive than taking a single forge world, even if it was in a day (in retrospect Armageddon seems like it's barely worth mentioning compared to this). As for one on one- who knows? Probably would depend on who was writing them.
  5. You can't take Noise Marines in a World Eater detachment and you can't take Berzerkers in an Emperor's Children detachment so that isn't really an issue...as for other cult units, there's plenty of examples in the fluff of cult marines operating in the undivided legions who aren't former members of one of the cult legions. Your Alpha Legion berzerkers probably aren't sons of Angron at all, but Khorne-leaning Alpha Legionnaires, so naturally they still like to fight from ambushes and the like...of course it all depends on how you want your warband's fluff to go, so you can really have it either way.
  6. Stick them in a Dreadclaw with a Sorcerer, pretty much guarantees they'll make it into combat.
  7. 1. Black Legion 2. Warmaster 3. Carrion Throne 4. Devastation of Baal 5. Lorgar or Perturabo- liked them both about equally.
  8. There was a scene in the new Fabius Bile book where his ex-World Eater apothecary single-handedly carves through half a dozen (off the top of my head, might have actually been more) Emperor's Children after being surrounded, and they're noted as being experienced legion veterans and not random mooks- it's heavily implied that he's able to pull it off because he gives into the nails.
  9. 100% agreed. Maybe some kind of Daemon engine transport with a special rule that allows the disembark move to happen after the vehicle moves rather than before. Defiler-style spider walker with a bottom hatch for troops to drop out of...like a Chaos AT-AT...
  10. Hands down one of my favorite (if not my actual favorite) 30k/40k novel. I definitely agree with what's been said regarding it being a bit bizarre that these bonzai charges somehow winning whole wars against other Astartes legions, but I think that issue really stems from this being a look at the tactical level (which is presumably going to look pretty much the way ADB portrays it, with hordes of gibbering madmen in power armor crashing into the nearest enemy) rather than the operational level, which is where I think all the real magic is happening- I'm picturing something like Deep Battle, but with approximately 888% more chainaxes.
  11. As mentioned above, lots of lascannons. Same way you'd deal with any other tank, nothing particularly complicated about it. If you can, limit your drops to get first turn- those 8 lascannon shots are pretty brutal.
  12. We've got a pretty active group in Orange.
  13. I was totally unaware that you can still activate charging units after their initial target had been wiped (he gives the examples of a Mek and Stormboyz)- I'd assumed the 1" activation rule applied to them as well. The more you know... I'd accidentally stumbled onto the 3 points of contact rule myself in my first 8th edition game- trapped my opponent's last surviving Rough Rider with my last 4 Berzerkers to avoid them taking fire from 2 Leman Russes, that move ended up winning me the game...but I had not considered the implications of the Fly rule on this. As Diagramdude notes above, this is actually pretty huge- turn 1 deepstrike charges don't necessarily have to result in the charger getting shot off the board on turn 2 as many of us (myself included) had assumed. I foresee this being very powerful used in conjunction with staggered waves of deepstrikers as holes open up in the enemy's formation.
  14. Here's one: a hive rebellion against the Imperium, for a seemingly good and reasonable cause- protagonists are a group of regular citizens, all of whom have been brutalized in some way or another by Imperial authorities. And of course, background aside, the way the Imperium responds to these sort of things they'll be the obvious antagonists. Over the course of the series, there will be a slow buildup as the protagonists become increasingly unhinged and turn to ever more esoteric methods of fighting their enemy, until at the last moment you get a look at them from the point of view from the invading Imperial forces and realize that all their shouting about daemons and heretics was a far more literal than the viewer was initially led to believe...
  15. I plan on running both Cap'n Smash and a Libby Dread in most of my lists- I guess it's just a matter of who gets Artisan of War, but I'll have the option to slam CPs down on either one of them depending on the situation/opponent.
