About this blog

2026

When Space Hulk was first released, I had just gotten out of being full-time in the Army.  And I had just started college.  I loved this game and played it over and over with the college gaming group.

Since 1989, I have had various editions, but never put the models together and played.

Back in 2016 or so, I got another copy of Space Hulk and played it with my boys, who were 16 and 13 at the time.  Using miniatures I had back then, not the boxed set.  Since then, the boys have brought it up multiple times, and I have always wanted to bring it back out.

2026 is the year that I will accomplish this, and this blog, as well as https://emperorschildren.net/ will be where I document the process and progress.

Inquisitors from the 80s and 90s.

First up: Inquistior Stern, part of the Epheral Stern and Inquisitor Hand Forge world set.  I like Inquistiors so I traded Stern Away. https://miniatureextravaganza.blogspot.com/2022/08/daemonifuge-ephrael-stern-and.html   And following with the Inqusitor theme some other 80s Inquistiors I have:   Inquisitor in Terminator Armor: From here:   What is funny is I shouldhave all those models, just need to find them!  At least the other Inqusitor

The Patriarch Ascendant - Ghost Ship

Introduction:     The world of Beta Dalas had once been a loyal hive world of the Imperium, its towering manufactorums feeding the endless wars of mankind. Beneath its cathedrals and refinery stacks, however, corruption had taken root. Inquisitor Broman uncovered a vast Genestealer Cult hidden deep within the underhive, worshipping the so-called Four-Armed God. Before the cult could rise openly, Broman transmitted an emergency astropathic plea to the Imperial Fists. The First Company’s

Genestealer colors comming together.

Locked in on the Genestealer color. I think they are starting to look good. Still need to paint the claws and other details on many. Highlighting needs to get done, but they have the right color scheme. They were varnished for this picture. 1/3 gloss, 2/3 matte. I like how they look. Finish them up, then on to bases.   So need to clean them up, get them highlighted.  Then base a lot of them and do the bases.  But moving along.  Considering they have been l

Genestealers WIP

So I based them black, and then did the highlighting in white from above. Zenanthal?  The airbrush is incredible for this.  Did the basing, the highlight and the initial purple for all the models in a night.     I was then using the Leviathan contrast to do the majority of the model, as the newer genestealers have a lot of Carapace and not the slots in the back. That is when I noticed I had 3 bottles of Leviathan Purple, not blue. So they were very purple. I am going for Table

Airbrushing! Learning something new.

So I usually get bored painting miniatures on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th coats.  The priming is easy, but it is the base coloring and such that drives me crazy.   Way back when I was a kid and doing model cars and such, it was a pain then.  But a friend of mine had an airbrush and never had the same problems.  So why did I.   So I always thought about getting an airbrush, and one time I did.  The kind that took a can of compressed air to work.  Just cumbersome and a pain to use. So in 20

Keeping focus in 2026. A history of excess from the Lord Commander 80s to 2020.

Part of the blog was me "focusing" on doing one thing and finishing it.  Space Hulk.  And I figured I would explain my previous armies/projects. This is my "brain dump" on justification of the blog, and kind of a summary of 30+ years of my time in the hobby.  Just a virtual reminisce for me.  A way for me to capture my thoughts and review them so I can plan the next steps.   More for me to clean my brain out!  And I do think in bullet points, not prose.     I tend to get an idea f

My mommy always said there were no monsters - no real ones - but there are.

So next up, I have to decide on the Genestealer color scheme. I already have 3 other color schemes:     Hive Fleet Gorgon? Last year’s Cthulhu stealers. 11 Stealers with the Ygmirl heads.  I love the Cthulhu heads!  They go with the Delaque models I have been working on.  You know how the Delaque worship the Silent Ones!  Every time I see this, I really lean towards it.  Just not sure I have enough of the heads!     Another choice is the stealers from

All your bases belong to us.

Bases are on.  Put magnets on the bases.  I had bought some 40mm magnets, but they actually took up the whole bottom of the base.  So luckily I had also bought some 32mm magnets too, so I decided to use them.  For the GW bases with the magnet holes, I attached them to the bottom.  For the other ones, I put a blob of green stuff on top of the magnet so it would attach to the base and the ground. Used their toothpick handles and drilled a hole through the base (and the magnet in some cases. A

Basing the terminators

So I am not that talented for making terrain, and my 3d Printer still isn't working so I wanted to make some bases.   Years ago I made the bases (for the 25mm version of the game), so I figured I would do it again.   You can see the bases here under the Genestealers I was doing for Kill Team.  I would cut out the base to make a void under the grating. And use sprues as beams.     Basically, a plastic card with a circular cutter, marked up the decks some ra

Terminator apothecary

W.A.Rorie gave me a lot of great ideas for the Apothecary and Tech Marine, so huge shout out to them! So the only Apothecary in Terminator armor I could find was an old Dark Angels one!   Looks pretty good, has an Apothicary symbol on their shoulder so I was sold.  I also order some Dark Angels apothecary on bike bits to add more to the model!  I said I wouldn't over do it, so was keeping the model clean.     Now the Dark Angels Apothicary is the old scale

The Imperial Fists - Troops Assembly

So the Imperial Fists: I purchased what I thought I needed (and a bit more) \     So I started assembling the army in a more traditional (to me) way. Priming on the sprue, the assembly was difficult. Having to strip the paint where the model was joined. So I pivotted, as I mentioned, I bought the airbrush and figured I would follow the YouTube videos.  It was a lot easier.  For the Apothecary I used blue tack to block areas.   Nor for the Imperial Fists yo

A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct.

I have started this project multiple times in the past.  Collecting Genestealers, putting together terminators and more.  But usually I would complicate the idea so much that it would get to be to much for me, and time or attention span would not be up to the task. This time I decided on a couple of quick rules.     Keep the list as simple as possible I would get lost in magnatizing the marines, or hand carving/building the Space Hulk terrain, and it would just take too lo
