Long time no news
Hi folks.
When I’ve started this blog, which turned out into THESE blogS when the topics were split and redistributed within distinct categories, my aim was getting approx. one contribution per week. Sometimes it has been more. But recently it turns out being less. But what happened? Boredom? Real life issue? Stepping out of the hobby?
Or something else.
Something else in fact. Or some things else. As it looks like it is a series of factors. But what is the root cause? Or are there more than one cause?
I have identified 2 main ones:
1. Moving and relocation. This happened in Feb, required packing, unpacking partially my stuff as the house is smaller. I lost my hobby space and serenity for doing my stuff. I managed colonizing the preserve, but I did not anticipate that, being further at the North than I used to be, this half outdoors spot was seriously affected by temperature and daylight issues. Summer is too hot and paints dry. Autumn already starts being too cold for staying there most of the time. And sunset happens quite earlier making that it is impossible to paint after 7:00 pm atm. It will go worst in the coming weeks of course. At the moment my daily window of opportunity for painting is therefore reduced to 30 min.
The moving also led the family in a house. Which means more maintenance for garden and so on. More hobby time lost.
(Seriously??? Is it edited by CapCom or EASports?)
The moving had a third effect: there are even lesser hobby spot in this area than where I was before. Just resupply is a pain and online shopping suffer from the terrible inefficiency of delivery system. When I have been used to be delivered by 3rd party stores in 3 working days in Spain, it takes up to 3 weeks here. I still struggle finding some online shops that are trustable and efficient. Or I pay the premium for international shipping which somehow makes delivery times comparable and in seldom cases a tad cheaper. But generally speaking I have what I want to order…
2. Backlog issue. I have been able to deplete my back log and pile of shame drastically. I am short of 40k and 30k models to paint. Or at least if I keep the rhythm I had last year for example. I am procrastinating now, and keeping my stuff in plastic grey or barely primed, just NOT to finish this journey.
As an additionnal counter measure I have started working on my globally untouched Fantasy back log. Dwarves got me busy with a ramp up from Sept last to June. And I have started Orcs and Gobs readily after. Orktober is very greentide for me this year with some 80 night gobs almost done other the past 4 weeks. And waiting only for being based. Which lead me back to the supply chain issue as I struggle to get Vallejo Goblin Green and Flock….
So, less hobby time and a refocus outside of 40k setting. There are causes I cannot fight atm. Even if another moving (locally) into a bigger spot might be on the agenda in the coming months. It might partly restore my hobby space. Other potential action is spending more and resupply in miniatures. I have completed my backlog of Aeldarii and Drukharii with CtA25. But there is room for extra units, especially with DE codex being released. And these Skitarri might benefit from more Knights, leading to alternate builds around a Questor Forge Pact for example…
So much to think about… But I have another batch of 100 Gobs to be painted. And Snots too.
See you
