The Fated Sons

The Fated Sons of the Word we are

Chosen from the masses, raised up by the Four

To their power do we aspire

The glory of Chaos in full bloom

Behold us and tremble, you foolish mortals

We are the Word, we are the Blessed

 We are Chaos emerging

The Fated Sons, Chosen of the Word

The Fated Sons are a paradox within the Ebon Word: a squad of Chosen who embrace the full, mutating glory of Chaos, even as the warband’s elders reject such lesser gifts in favor of true apotheosis. Where the Gyve embody restraint and discipline, the Fated Sons are the raw, burgeoning hunger of the Long War’s younger generation. Their own litany declares it openly: “The Fated Sons of the Word we are… The glory of Chaos in full bloom.”

To the Ebon Word’s older warriors, the Fated Sons are a troubling omen- a sign that the youth may walk a path divergent from the Iscarne’s teachings. Yet on the battlefield, their zeal is undeniable. They are the rising storm, the chaotic bloom that may one day reshape the warband’s destiny.

Kill-team Designations

Sub-Acolyte Xebrel

    Fanatic, touched by Great Powers

    Twister of flesh and words

    Litanies of hate chanted

    Blessed be or cursed be

    The Future to tell

Torakul, Butcher of Men and Not-Men

    Steel and blood, axe lifted

Growling fury to honor the Golden One

Bring the Word through bolt and blade

The hand of Karneth upon his brow

Loctal Taz, Taloned Menace

    To rip, to slash

To find perfection in murder for Slaaneth

For the Gods, for the Golden

    Forever for the Word

Veteran Urghal

    Blackened bronze and broken promises

The fate of Monarchia in my breast

Nevermore seen as the beacons of Imperial Truth

Exposed for the lies that lay beneath

Portag Firalk and Yullan, Twinned Fates

Brothers linked in life, twinned mind

Move as one, kill as one, preach as one

Praise the Eight, praise the Primarch

Well, these three Word Bearers squads (The Choral Undue, the Fated Sons, and the Gyve) were all made as kill-teams. So the fluff leaned into that, and in-game 40k they are all a bit different. The Choral Undue is a Raptor unit with an attached Chaos Lord. The Fated Sons are Chosen, with a Dark Apostle riding herd, and the Gyve are just a Legionaries squad with a Sorcerer.

Most of my other units won't have all of the members fleshed out, these were simply done for various Kill-team challenges. The Ebon Word half of the army was heavily influenced by just random HQ models I liked, so I have a ton of characters in that portion, where the Shrikeborn were basically designed with trying to create a playable 10th ed force off the bat. So I'm trying to mash together my character-focused section with my more squad-based list portion and we'll see how it goes. Right now the idea is that in the majority of squads I'll have some sort of fluff/lore for both the unit and then the squad leader- the Night Lords won't have that many in-game leaders but will have their squad leaders taking major roles within the in-universe lore, while the Word Bearers will typically have a lot more in-game characters (I think I have 10 or so characters to do...) and their squads will be less character-focused and more themed.
