If you are looking for salamander cloaks, tabards and such Spellcrow has a lot of salamander related bits. just search 'Salamandra' and you will find things from hammers, jump packs, cloaks, tabards, and even flamers and meltas with dragon iconography. I put in an order from them because I plan on using them on sternguard, vanguard and some other stuff I picked up on a sale at my FLGS awhile back. still waiting on it to come it, but some vehicle salamander stuff that I had ordered before went well on my relic contemptor salamander dread, and a deredeo I got. http://www.spellcrow.com/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=salamandra&x=0&y=0 most other bits sellers only have a couple things, if anything when it comes to salamanders. But it seems like Spellcrow seems to really love the chapter.

Help a heretic build a loyal army

depends on the situation and how you equipped the aggressors. without transport you are going to want to go bolter bro's. screen them if you can either with a vehicle or another squad if you can so they can survive getting into firing range. If you are going flame bro's without transport, then they are going to be expensive rear-guard, have them screen your tanks and backfield fire support and be charge bait. you dont want to try and march flame bro's across the field unless you are going up against an army that doesnt have any shooting (so daemons and tyranids and possibly orks) and at those occasions they are going to be excellent in culling horde numbers -

For salamanders, if you are ordering forgeworld DCCW with fists, the hands come with storm bolter and heavy flamer. The Claw hands come with plasma blastgun and graviton blaster, so keep that mind when buying the forgeworld DCCW arms. As for ranged weapons, Multimelta/plasma cannon/kheres assault cannon are more your speed if you are being fluffy, if not the lascannon, c-beam cannon (you cant move at all if you plan on shooting this weapon) or autocannon. You can take a cyclone missile launcher for 50 points (an its cheap and gets you a head option for your contemptor), and honestly its not bad. Gives you either frag or krak missiles to do some more wounds. and if you arent sure you want the missile launcher on it, just magnetize it and you can adjust your list accordingly. I already listed my 2 relic contemptors loadouts already. But if you are itching to burn money, you might want to consider getting a Deredeo if you want something with more shooting. going with either the plasma or autocannons are decent (the lascannons are way overcosted), and you get 2 heavy bolters (or 2 heavy flamers, but if you have to use the flamers you either didnt bubblewrap or misplayed) and can take an aiolos missile launcher. For general purpose though Contemptors are the best costed dreads. Leviathans arent bad, but too much points IMHO and unless you are going full dakka with it, its probably not going to make it long enough to get across the board and into close combat. -

Helios has 2 twin las, a whirlwind launcher (that doesnt need LoS to shoot) and has transport cap of 6. So if you see your opponent setting up a tau rail rifle backline, amassed devastator squads, or any long range tank killers just put the helios behind full cover that blocks LoS but you can still fire your missiles until its safe for it to come out and use its lascannons. the transport of 6 is not that great, but honestly if you arent using the crusader or prometheus then you should be using your land raider as a weapons platform. as for if you want to make changes to my list to make it more salamandery (my chapter likes plasma, lots of plasma, ALL OF THE PLASMA) just switch out the plasma weapons for melta or flamer weapons if you want. I wanted to use the sicaran omega in a list, but with it still having experimental rules (and hopefully the weapon gets improved for 8th edition because as it stands right now it is absolutely garbage as a tank hunter) I might not get to play it. So went with 2 salamander relic contemptors and took vanguard and sternguard to make the list legal (you cant have more relic than non-relics in your detatchments, so each relic needs a buddy unit) since they are legal and have invul saves. I havent had a chance yet to use this list but with 6 different squads to spread out and fight over objectives, and 3 heavy hitting vehicles as well as 2 hq's with jetpacks to harass and a techmarine to do field repairs, I feel it gives me a pretty good 'all comers' kind of list with lots of vicious options. -

Well I think depending on what you want to do with your army. If you want to go primaris, I recommend going full primaris, if you are going to go astartes, then go full astartes. I have over 10k in astartes and over 3k in primaris. For Astartes, here is a 2k fun list that I threw together to be hard hitting. HQ- Captain+Jump Pack, relic blade, combi-flamer (its a converted He'Stan) -125 HQ- Chaplain+jump pack, combi-plasma (you could also go combi-melta) - 105 HQ- Techmarine, bolt pistol, power axe - 62 Troop- (10) tac squad, powersword, combigrav, plasma gun, plasma cannon - 181 Troop- (10) tac squad, powersword, combigrav, plasma gun, plasma cannon - 181 Troop- (5) tac squad, chainsword, bolt pistol, plasma gun - 78 (you could replace this with a scout squad and take sniper rifles to focus fire hq units, I am tempted to do this) Fast- (5) assault squad, eviscerator+combat shield, 2 plasma pistol, 2 bolt pistol, melta bomb - 120 Heavy- Land Raider Helios - 2 twin lascannon, helios launcher, storm bolter - 354 Elite- Relic Contemptor Dread - cyclone launcher, DCCW, plasma blast gun, kheres assault cannon - 258 Elite- Relic Contemptor Dread - cyclone launcher, 2 DCCW, 2 plasma blast guns - 277 Elite- (5) Vanguard Vets - relic blade+storm shield, 3 power swords, 2 plasma pistols, 2 bolt pistols, melta bomb - 142 Elite- (5) Sternguard Vets - powerfist+combiplasma, 4 special issue boltguns - 115 Battalion+vanguard for 7 CP, 106 power level, 1998 pts. you can combat squad the 2 full tac squads to spread them out, and 2 jet pack squads can help cap or contest objectives or tie up units in melee. 2 relic contemptors and the helios give you lots of heavy fire support, the land raider can be parked in the back with the lascannons and helios launcher raining on targets while the contemptors can fire either frag or krak missiles and their invul save and 12 wounds make them versatile (plus you get access to a special strategem for having relics on the field). I am thinking of switching out the 5 man tac squad for scouts with sniper rifles to put saves on HQ's that are screened by infantry and to deal with guillimen and other troublesome units/hq's since sniper rifles can reliably wound. -
Opposite of Dark Angels? Blood Ravens. Dark Angels are a loyalist legion that is secretly traitor. While Blood Ravens are loyalist from a traitor legion (Thousand Suns) thats secretly loyal (and like to steal all kinds of artifacts, like custodes armor). http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/645/499/9b5.png But if you are looking for a different gameplay style, then probably guard, tau or tyranids. Guard is all about drowning your opponent with the blood of your own men. Tau is static gunlines while crisis suits rain from the sky, and Tyranids is mostly about completely overrunning your opponent with genestealers because thats been the only viable unit the codex has consistently had.

Those of you who use Primaris in your army
Saxxon the Dragoon replied to Azaiel's topic in + ADEPTUS ASTARTES +
Well you could take a <chapter> detachment with your deathwatch, a tech marine with 2 redemptors (or grab a third or some other elite like vanguard) for vanguard detachment, and then make the rest of your list deathwatch. -
Possible Salamanders Convert Inquriy
Saxxon the Dragoon replied to Aothaine's topic in + ADEPTUS ASTARTES +
That conversion does look fantastic. But dont go rushing to destroy your gravis captain, there actually wouldnt be a whole lot you need to do to make him salamandery. Get green stuff and cut it into scale shapes and just put it on the gravis captain cloak. And changing over the sword to the flaming blade in the video is literally just 2 small cuts above the crossguard to make that work. You could also cut the hand/arms at the joint to give them a better dynamic pose. My chapter is Salamander Successor, but we have a dragonic and angelic motif. My chapter colors were red, yellow and black, which did help them stand out more but its a real pain in the arse to paint, especially for a whole army. So I have decided to repaint a lot of my army into just red and black, using gold and silver as highlights. If you are wondering what those wings are, they are the really old swooping hawk/exarch wings. -

If they decide to take on the ideals and tenets of the promethean cult, then yes. The problem is we havent gotten enough lore about primaris to really get a handle on their attitudes and adoption of customs from the home chapters. We dont get a lot of lore about the salamanders as it is, so honestly you can fill that in however you want. I personally think the primaris would customize and upgrade as they learned to take responsibility of their gear, as salamanders get really, REALLY angry when other people touch their :cuss, and will only hand off equipment for repairs if its beyond their ability. Primaris as we have seen so far are more of an empty glass that you can fill how you want. I have a different take on primaris adoption to my chapter. Considering my chapter likes to hunt around for relics and STC gear that the primaris doesnt use (or need) they dont accept/take on missions of relic recovery and are only interested in combat and training, with strict adherence to the Codex while my Astartes diverge much from the Codex. If you want your Salamander (or Salamander Successor chapter) primaris to take on the traditions of the salamanders, its entirely up to you. -

Here are the pictures I promised Using third party bits shouldnt be an issue, and will really add some spice to the look of your army. especially since salamanders are known for customizing and upgrading their own armor. There is even a website called shapeways that you can get custom made bits. -

You could do just bog standard shoulders for your tacticals and such, but go with 3rd party shoulders and such if you are going full Salamanders or Salamanders successors. Bits of War has some AWESOME 'dragonborn' shoulders. I had bought a set and put them on a squad of assault marines and they look pretty nice. (I will post a picture of them later, only just primed the squad black but I can still show off the shoulders) https://bitsofwar.com/home/148-dragonborn-shoulder-pads-.html They also have some nice looking razorback turrets too, since GW doesnt want to do just sell turrets to us. Wargame Exclusive also has some amazing looking turrets for razorbacks as well. And they also have a lot of different head choices and other bits to customize your army. They also have a pretty great looking chaplain model too thats pretty impressive. https://wargameexclusive.com/shop/space-warriors/imperial-heavy-flamer-turret-conversion-set/ Spellcrow has other bits, like helmets and such that can help personalize your troops even more http://www.spellcrow.com/salamandra-dragon-space-knights-helmets-forge-pattern-p-298.html I actually got some salamandra icons recently and put them on my second forgeworld contemptor. http://www.spellcrow.com/salamandra-dragons-icons-p-299.html (I just finished magnetizing the cyclone launcher last night and had to make adjustments to the left shoulder Icon so I will upload an updated picture later but here is what it looked like before the cyclone launcher) I think I will be ordering a lot more spellcrow stuff for my chapter. Of course Forgeworld has some salamanders stuff, but nowhere near as much as other chapters (like space wolves) the shoulders are crazy expensive (roughly $16 for just 10 shoulder pads, not including taxes and shipping) -

My second Contemptor dread finally arrived. Damn I love just how good looking this thing is. and here is my helios right next to my contemptors. This was pricey but so completely worth it. -

Looks like I forgot to update my thread with shading done and some other work I did to this model. Due to how well this turned out, I decided to buy a second one from forge world (this time just 2 dread arms with plasma blastguns and the claws) with the option to add a cyclone launcher. I thinking I will go either full red or maybe go gold for the dragon head and give the scales and such a metallic bronze color. -

I was only stating that its starting to go into soup territory only using your librarian to buff up your gravis captain (not that there is anything wrong with it, but it feels disgusting taking a librarian in your army only to spend most of the game giving buffs to your captain). Having a librarian isn't against the lore, but only taking him to be a buff-b*tch is against the lore. But thats just my thoughts, so take that what you will (I run a salamanders successor chapter, and they like to use plasma more than flamers and lots of assault marines and bikers). Since you are going the primaris route, a repulsor is a good grav-raider and a serious weapons platform, the only downside is that there isnt any primaris tech marines and the repulsor is more expensive than a land raider points wise. And outside of the redemptor dread and astreaus superheavy, the primaris dont have any other vehicles (yet). so bringing in flame aggressors is going to be difficult. And since we cant use pyroclasts from 30k, its going to be difficult bringing anything with flamers to bear if you are going primaris (since only aggressors have flame weapons for primaris). I am really annoyed at how blood angels, space wolves and dark angels get to keep all their special toys (baal predator and special dread, stormfangs, special land speeder and the like), but everyone else shares (redeemer, crusader, terminus ultra). the standard codex has become more and more of the ultramarines codex, and chapters like salamanders, black templars, white scars and ravenguard get blander and blander.
