Licensed Computer Games Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II - Q3/Q4 2024
Deus_Ex_Machina replied to Joe's topic in + OTHER GAMES +
I rebooted the Vanguard class. After four missions (Ruthless, 2xLethal and Absolute) it´s already at Lvl 19. First run was solo and the other three with the same stranger and a bot. I even managed to secure the Gene-Seed in the Absolute run. Total madness but so rewarding! -

New Drop Pod
Deus_Ex_Machina replied to Lord Marshal's topic in + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS +
Vintage Drop Pods have been sold out in a matter of hours from one of Germany´s online retailers. I will probably order two SM Predators today as these are still available and are next in line of getting on the chopping block. -
Game design, "balance", "fun" and how they interact
Deus_Ex_Machina replied to Antarius's topic in + AMICUS AEDES +
Here is how I approach the scenarios in my campaign: 1. What kind of scenarios could make sense as a follow-up? Logic applies in the sense of writing episodes for a TV series. 2. Once a scenario idea has been formulated the two opposing forces need to be conceived. 3. A slight imbalance might be tolerated as a boon in favour for the faction which has performed better in past scenarios. Balance is closely related to fun as it usually provides the foundation of an interesting game in which the victor is not predetermined in the list writing phase. -
The business model says to do a new edition after X years. It´s not the goal to improve the game but to have the means of extracting cash for a product for which you have already spent money. In regards to the FAQ: I won´t read it because it´s a ton of additional information which should have been included in the game from the start. So I will be perfectly fine with the couple of house rules I have implemented by myself. The game would have drastically benefitted from having unit cards like it was the case in the 90s but apparently Gee-Dubbs was too cheap for that. I will be sticking with the LI 1.0 ruleset and the same applies to HH when the Age of Darkness receives it´s new edition this summer. Edit: Modern 40K is in the worst spot in regards to rules. These change multiple times a year in an edition and the 40K community has been brainwashed by corporate to gobble it up without complaining. This does not only include beginners in the hobby who can´t naturally know that they are being fooled but even to gamers who have been decades into the wargaming hobby. There is a German YT channel in particular that sings high praises of modern 40K on a regular basis and when I hear it I just shake my head and think that these dudes should know better but still allow themselves to be duped.

I visited the Red Lion Convention in my local area today. This was my haul: https://ibb.co/album/8zXwVg - Old World Guard Tower - Wild West Water Tower - 36 D6 in Steel/Purple colour scheme - April O´Neill (Brother Vinnie, two versions) - Two Repentias (Brother Vinnie) - Sorceress (Brother Vinnie, not shown in pic) - Dungeon Sisters (Brother Vinnie, five models, not shown in pic) - Gamers Grass Dry Steppe set - Acrylic Paint (Panzer Aces, Italian Tank Crew, free gift for attending the event, not shown in pic) I hope the Italian Tank crew paint will stick around longer on my model tanks than the Italians did on the battlefields of WWII. But hey, you simply don´t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Leaked Drukhari Model, Lady Malys?
Deus_Ex_Machina replied to CL_Mission's topic in + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS +
We need a diorama depicting this: Space Mongol Dark Eldar Waifu Harem. No wonder those Primarchs are reluctant to visit 40K because they all have received invitations from the Khan. -
Leaked Drukhari Model, Lady Malys?
Deus_Ex_Machina replied to CL_Mission's topic in + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS +
It seems the Dark Eldar raided Gary´s shoe store on Necromunda as the Escher have similar footwear. The only person who wasn´t dragged screaming to Commorragh was the shoe salesman Al Bundy. The xenos left him at the shoe store in disgust as he was the only one being happy to be taken to a place far, far away from the big, red couch monster who is none other than his nagging wife. -
It is said in the Rogue Trader book (1987) that only a tiny section of the Milky Way galaxy has been discovered and settled by mankind. Most of those worlds have even lost contact with Terra. And yet whenever I visit the setting of 30K/40K I feel it to be confined and restrictive almost but obviously not as bad as the Old World. This may be because most of the novels and publications deal with the same enemies of mankind. This even caused me to place my HH 2.0 campaign into the Andromeda galaxy where I felt there is more freedom, a blank slate if you will, to introduce new factions (e.g. Rust Bots and more to come) into the game without conflicting with the current lore. A recent read of the Rogue Trader book mentioned Rogue Traders leaving the Milky Way galaxy and never being heard from again. Is this a missed opportunity to come up with stories from visitors or returning Rogue Traders from other galaxies? A few months ago I bought the trilogy Forges of Mars (Graham McNeill; 2012-2014) and it turned out to be an adventure story of an Imperial fleet going onto a crusade into uncharted galactic territory. This was a breath of fresh air as the run-of-the mill 40K story boils down to a planetary invasion of Xenos XYZ and the Imperium has to deal with it in one way or another. Do you think it needs to be this way because Warhammer is a wargame and therefore needs to have lots of easily identified xenos as enemies in comparison to having more adventure stories in the spirit of Star Trek?

Tarantula Missile Battery
Deus_Ex_Machina replied to Lord Marshal's topic in + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS +
I recently visited my local GW store. The store manager said that one of his supervisors told him the next boxset for HH would indeed be another edition. Though the supervisor didn´t elaborate on that as he noticed any further comments from him would reveal too much. I don´t expect a book for Militia and Daemons of the Ruinstorm in the next edition cycle as it seems those factions are purposefully being abandoned. It seems GW doesn´t care, if 3rd companies are filling this niche with their model ranges. -

Here is the version from German Engineseers: -
Maybe it would be wise to accept the fact that HH has an INTENDED tier system just like in Blood Bowl with the difference that the devs are vocal about it in the latter case: Tiers in Blood Bowl (Living Rulebook): 1. Elves & Humans 2. The Rest 3. Stunty Teams Tiers in HH 2.0: 1. IF & IH 2. Remaining Legions 3. Militia You can of course argue that more Legions may be part of the HH 2.0 top tier system although to make it work you need to dig more deeply into special units and rules interactions. With the aforementioned IF & IH you receive a flat passive bonus which is always active in many situations and very good at the same time.

Horus Heresy: Roleplaying Game

This reminds me a bit of D&D Birthright (1995). Each player was a ruler with a domain. -

Bjorn will be retired and reborn in an upcoming, supersized Hammerfall bunker which he can operate. It all makes sense. Really. Just imagine how many wolf pelts and talsimans you can hang onto his structure. It´s the Wolf Time baby and desperate times demand desperate measures! -

Back in the day only Black Templars had LR Crusaders. The same will apply to jetbikes. Tomorrow everyone will have them with the exception of the poorest factions. -
Have you thought about doing the classic Kill-Team consisting of the Blood Angels crew from the comic Bloodquest?

This reads akin to this from Gee-Dubb´s perspective: As non-SM players haven´t spend enough money to our liking we plan to punish them by catering to our bread and butter model range. -

I will be soon finished with the March 2025 Challenge and found this one by chance today. So lets do it: I, Deus Ex Machina, vow to complete one Kill-Team of the Iron Hands (from the Kill-Team Starter set), to be fully painted and based by the 31st May 2025, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May Ferrus Manus, he is alive and well despite heretical propaganda claiming the opposite, curse me to darkness and ruination should I fail! -
