  1. I'll go into more detail with an article on the main board soon, but the idea/theme for this list is for two threats buffed to the hilt (and with enough synergy/chaff from the supporting elements to pull it off). This was supposed to be theoretical, but I actually had a game with it this other night on the spur of the moment (report arrive soonTM). Below is my initial gambit and I'm sure there's room for improvement; I certainly have some ideas on where to go with it 2000 "Troop Spam" TAC list Blood Angels Battalion Detachment HQ Captain ~ Master-crafted boltgun, thunder hammer, jump pack ~ Warlord: Artisan of War Captain ~ Master-crafted boltgun, chainsword ~ Veritas Vitae Troops Scouts (5) ~ Bolt pistol, chainsword ~ Combat blade (4) Scouts (5) ~ Bolt pistol, chainsword ~ Combat blade (4) Scouts (5) ~ Bolter, chainsword ~ Shotgun (4) Elites Company Ancient ~ Boltgun Terminator Squad (5) ~ Storm bolter, power sowrd ~ Assault Cannon, power fist ~ Storm bolter, power fist (3) Fast Attack Scout Bikes (3) Scout Bikes (3) Blood Angels Battalion Detachment HQ Librarian ~ Bolt pistol, force stave, jump pack ~ Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius, Smite Sanguinary Priest ~ Bolt pistol, chainsword, jump pack Troops Scouts (5) ~ Bolter, chainsword ~ Bolter (4) Scouts (5) ~ Bolter, chainsword ~ Bolter (4) Scouts (5) ~ Bolter, chainsword ~ Bolter (4) Heavy Support Rapier Carrier (1) ~ Quad launcher Devastator Squad (5) ~ Armorium Cherub ~ Bolter (3) ~ Grav-cannon & grav-amp ~ Heavy bolter Devastator Squad (5) ~ Armorium Cherub ~ Bolter (3) ~ Grav-cannon & grav-amp ~ Missile Launcher Blood Angels Vanguard Detachment HQ Lieutenant (2) ~ Hand flamer, chainsword, jump pack (Angel's Wing) (1) ~ Master-crafted bolter, chainsword (1) Elites Sanguinary Ancient ~ Angelus boltgun, power fist, death mask ~ Standard of Sacrifice Sanguinary Guard (4) ~ Angelus boltgun, encarmine sword (3) ~ Angelus boltgun, power fist (1) Sanguinary Guard (4) ~ Angelus boltgun, encarmine sword (3) ~ Angelus boltgun, power fist (1) Musings 14 CP, Captain Smash is the warlord... Block one is two squads of Sanguinary Guard backed up with an Ancient (5++= standard), Priest, Librarian (Rage and Shield), jump lieutenant (with the overwatch blocker jump pack), and the smash Captain Block two is the Terminators, with a foot Captain, Standard, Lieutenant Six Scout Squads and two Scout bike Squads for harassment Smash Captain has the option of going DVoS and rolling up a flank, jump lieutenant can use UWoF to assist if necessary Two Devastators Squads with cherubs for stratagem shenanigans (and the quad launcher nearby). Alternatively, the foot Captain, Lieutenant, Standard can babysit here Two standards for standard shenanigans (see thread I realise the ranged weapon choices are a bit off but I'm attempting to be WYSIWYG as best I can. However, there is some proxying going on meaning I'll likely change this out going forward... The rest of the odd choices are to make the points fit. I'm potentially looking into rolling the two Battalions into a Brigade, just need to work out what to move around and to keep my CPs high. Thoughts?
  2. In a little over a month I will be playing my first 2000 points game for a number of years, quite possibly the first time I've played at this points level outside of Apocalypse since the 4th edition. As I don't really want to go down the proxy route, alternatives choices and options can be found on my blog. List One This list uses my most recent 1750 list as a basis. I consider this a "light-mech/mech" force. Mephiston Librarian ~ Force Axe ~ Shield and Fear Corbulo Furioso Dreadnought ~ Frag Cannon ~ Melta Gun ~ Magna Grapple ~ Drop Pod Assault Squad (5) ~ Melta Gun ~ Inferno Pistol, Power Sword, Melta Bombs ~ Razorback ~~ Twin-linked Heavy bolter Assault Squad (5) ~ Plasma Pistol ~ Plasma Pistol, Power Axe, Melta Bombs ~ Razorback ~~ Lascannon & Twin-linked Plasma Gun Death Company (8) ~ Power Fist (1) ~ Bolter (1) ~ Bolt Pistol, Power Sword (1) ~ Land Raider Scout Squad (5) ~ Sniper Rifle (4) ~ Heavy Bolter Attack Bike Squadron (1) ~ Multi Melta (1) Attack Bike Squadron (1) ~ Multi Melta (1) Predator Destructor ~ Lascannon Sponsons ~ Dozerblade, Stormbolter Stormraven ~ Twin-linked Multi Melta ~ Twin-linked Assault Cannon ~ Hurricane Bolters Here the plan is fairly simple. The "Fragioso" is the distraction while my force moves up. The Librarian rides with the Melta RAS in the Bolterback providing Shield, while Corbulo rides with the Plasma RAS in the Plaserback. The Predator moves with these along with the Attack Bikes, Mephiston and the Death Company in the Landraider which will undoubtedly be at the forefront. Together these move forward as one to deny space and take the fight to the enemy. The Scouts will arrive in the Stormraven for late objective claiming. List Two This alternative list is very different from what I have done recently and is a bit of a throwback to an older way of playing. It is also somewhat experimental as I will be trying out different tactics. I consider this a Hybrid force. Mephiston Librarian ~ Force Axe ~ Shield and Fear Corbulo Sanguinary Priest Furioso Dreadnought ~ Blood Talons ~ Heavy Flamer ~ Magna Grapple Assault Squad (5) ~ Melta Gun ~ Inferno Pistol, Power Sword, Melta Bombs ~ Razorback ~~ Twin-linked Heavy bolter Assault Squad (5) ~ Plasma Pistol ~ Plasma Pistol, Power Axe, Melta Bombs ~ Razorback ~~ Lascannon & Twin-linked Plasma Gun Tactical Squad (10) ~ Plasma Gun ~ Plasma Cannon Death Company (5) ~ Power Fist (1) ~ Bolter (1) Attack Bike Squadron (1) ~ Multi Melta Attack Bike Squadron (1) ~ Multi Melta Land Speeder Squadron (1) ~ Heavy Bolter ~ Typhoon Missile Launcher Stormraven ~ Twin-linked Multi Melta ~ Twin-linked Assault Cannon ~ Hurricane Bolters Dreadnought ~ Assault Cannon ~ Missile Launcher Devastator Squad (5) ~ Missile Launcher (3) ~ Heavy Bolter (1) This operates in three parts. The Sanguinary Priest, Dreadnought, Tactical Squad and Devastator Squad sit on a home objective. The Stormraven has the Death Company and a Furioso Dreadnought which will arrive and (hopefully) cause havoc later in the game. The Librarian rides with the Melta RAS in the Bolterback providing Shield, while Corbulo rides with the Plasma RAS in the Plaserback. Along with Mephiston, the Attack Bikes and the Land Speeder these rush along a flank to attempt to take apart my opponents piecemeal. Perhaps a Whirlwind instead of the Dreadnought? Thoughts?
  3. Opposition A small sized force that I'm likely to use against a "hybrid" Imperial Guard army. I use "hybrid" in lieu of a suitable term for a bunch of infantry, Sentinels and possible a Leman Russ or two. It is also possible that I may use this list against an Ork, Eldar or even a Marine force and what these opposition forces consist of can be seen in my blog. List Astorath Death Company (6) ~ Jump Packs ~ Power Fist, Bolter ~ Inferno Pistol Lemartes Death Company (6) ~ Jump Packs ~ Power Fist, Bolter Death Company (5) ~ Power Fist, Bolter ~ Power Sword ~ Rhino ~~ Extra Armour Death Company Dreadnought ~ Blood Talons ~ Magna Grapple ~ Drop Pod The plan is fairly simple; the Rhino is there for cover for the advancing jump pack squads, while the Dreadnought is a distraction. Options Been thinking on how I could tweak it. I could: 1) Downgrade Lemartes to a regular Chaplain and bulk out the Rhino squad with more Death Company 2) Drop Lemartes completely and bulk out all squads evenly (would add a Power Sword to the squad he vacated) 3) Drop the Dreadnought and the Rhino for more bodies and have a ten-man foot squad coming out of the Drop Pod 4) Drop Lemartes for two Attack Bikes with Multi Meltas and bulk out the Rhino squad (would add a Power Sword to the squad he vacated) What are you thoughts on this?
  4. Believe it or not, this is actually a project I've wanted to do for ages. Whilst I realise the limitations to a list such as this, I feel that it is capable in many other ways from a conventional Marine list and remarkably fluffy. 1000 points, Baal Strike Force Captain ~ Artificier Armour ~ Combi-melta, relic blade, melta bombs, auspex ~ Storm shield or Veritas Vitae ~ Warlord Command Squad ~ Meltagun (3) ~ Drop Pod Scout Squad (10) ~ Sniper rifle (8) ~ Heavy bolter with hellfire shells ~ Boltgun, melta bombs Scout Squad (10) ~ Bolt pistol, close combat weapon (7) ~ Shotgun (2) ~ Veteran Sergeant, melta bombs, bolt pistol, chainsword Scout Squad (10) ~ Bolt pistol, close combat weapon (7) ~ Shotgun (2) ~ Veteran Sergeant, melta bombs, bolt pistol, chainsword Scout Squad (10) ~ Boltgun (9) ~ Boltgun, melta bombs Scout Bike Squadron (3) ~ Astartes grenade launcher (2) ~ Combi-grav, melta bombs Tarantula Sentry Gun Battery (2) ~ Twin-linked lascannon, camo netting (1) ~ Multi-melta, searchlight, camo netting (1) Options Captain will arrive with the Command Squad as this is the best way to keep up with the Scouts. Torn between a storm shield (with this being my only real "beat" squad, I'll probably need to tank stuff) and the Veritas Vitae for that tactical advantage (thinking here to Infiltrate the Tarantulas, possibility of getting Night fight, Stealth in Ruins across the board, and/or other such stuff). Bikes will either Outflank or Scout to make use of the combi-grav. Not sure what best synergises with the grenade launcher though... I've also opted for a BSF to make use of the two (possibly four) combat Scout Squads. Whilst I could use a CAD with potentially eight Objective Secured Squads, I don't feel that they have the durability to pull it off, even if the stars align and I get Stealth everywhere. One interesting twist is that I could trim the "shooty units" from above and use it in conjunction with the 10th Company Task Force from Codex: Space Marines. This could represent the "Elite Scouts" of the BA army and I could even use Telion to represent Captain Borgio of our 10th Company. Thoughts?
  5. Introduction This list has evolved from my 1250 list and is simply a way of including new toys. Essentially it will play the same. As usual, a list of alternatives and my opponents can be found on my Blog. List Primary Detachment Astorath Death Company (6) ~ Jump Packs ~ Bolt Pistol and Power Sword (1) ~ Bolt Pistol and Chainsword (2) ~ Bolter and Power Fist (1) ~ Bolter (2) Death Company (6) ~ Bolt Pistol and Power Axe (1) ~ Bolt Pistol and Power Sword (1) ~ Bolt Pistol and Chainsword (1) ~ Bolter (3) ~ Razorback ~~ Twin-linked Heavy Bolter Death Company Dreadnought ~ Blood Talons ~ Magna Grapple ~ Heavy Flamer Assault Squad (6) ~ Flamer ~ Melta Bomb ~ Razorback ~~ Lascannon & Twin-linked Plasma Gun ~~ Searchlight Attack Bike Squadron (2) ~ Multi Melta (2) Predator Destructor ~ Lascannon Sponsons ~ Searchlight Stormraven Gunship ~ Twin-linked Multi Melta ~ Twin-linked Assault Cannon ~ Hurricane Bolters Allied Detachment Imperial Knight Paladin Tactics In theory, this plays like the 1250 list. The Knight and the Predator lead the charge, with the Razorbacks and the jumping Death Company using them as cover. The Attack Bikes stay close too, on the flanks. The Death Company Dreadnought arrives with the Stormraven and I'll probably put the small Assault Squad into reserves for late game objective grabbing. I do realise that having a squad of Death Company with jump packs is an inefficient use of points, but I don't have much choice really (the only other jump choices in my collection are Sanguinary Guard...). Comments and criticisms welcomed as always.
