Hi All, I had decided to do a squad of Ultrasmurf Tyrannic War vets, with Cassius and present them all on a diorama base. I've picked up a box of the Tyrannic War vets, and a few of the Deathwatch Cassius models for converting. More on the project as a whole at a later date - this WIP is just for a conversion that I'm using as a test-bed for conversions, colour schemes, basing ideas etc. If he turns out alright, he may end up in the squad and on the dio. Like the fluff, this guy will have a mixed set of armor, as parts are damaged and replaced. I've started out with a set of Mk III legs. There will be extensive weathering, and battle damage, but for now they are clean: http://i.imgur.com/x001eyE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6KTepzZ.jpg Thanks for looking, all comments and criticism welcome! ~ Replica

I am hyped for 8th and since I've sold all my marines (three moving boxes full...) I'll have to start a new army. And that will be a primaris marine army. I love the colour scheme of the Emperor's Spears chapter, and the choice was clear when I learned that Aaron Dembski-Bowden (my favourite BL-writer) is writing a novel about them. I really hope he will flesh them out! I am not a great painter, but I am happy with the way I've found to paint them; it's fast and it looks okay. I hope you agree! I really would like to hear your critique and suggestions! I haven't decided on weathering yet... Recipe for blue (pictures below): 1. Undercoat with Army Painter Crystal Blue spray 2. Wash the whole model with 50/50 Lahmian Medium and Drakenhof Nightshade. Try to remove wash from larger "plates" with the brush to make step 3 easier. 3. Drybrush the whole model with Crystal Blue - to "clean" the smooth plates. 4. Highlight with GW Lothern Blue (vehicles are drybrushed instead and the plates are "cleaned" again with watered down Crystal Blue) 5. Fine highlight of Fenrisian Grey For White: 1. Spray white and paint all Ulthuan Grey (f.x. Helmets that I didn't glue on), or paint it up from Celestial Grey to Ulthuan Grey. Remember to water down your paints! 2. Small stuff like helmets gets an all over wash of 50/50 Lahmian Medium and Nuln Oil. Larger pieces gets the mix in the crevices. 3. Larger areas gets cleaned up with watered down Ulthuan Grey. 4. Highlight with White Scars Basing: 0. Paint all black (including stones and rocks 1. Make patches of Agrellan Earth. Not to much 1a. Drybrush rocks with Eshin Grey, Administratum Grey and lastly Ulthuan Grey (lightly) 2. Cover everything except Agrellan Earth patches and most of the stones with Stirland Mud. 3. Wash everything with Agrax Earthshade 4. Lightly drybrush everything with Steel Legion Drab 5. Lightly drybrush everything with Zandri Dust 6. Very lightly drybrush with Ushabti Bone 7. Paint some random areas with Athonian Camoshade 8. Cover many but small patches with some dark green flock. I use Woodland Scenics Fine Turf 9. Place some GW and or Army Painter tufts and turfs (f.x. Mordheim Turf and AP Swamp Tuft) 10. Paint edges with Rhinox Brown It is very fast and easy! Here's some pictures:

Hey all! I decided to move my WIP stuff to the main folder instead of posting in the Ad Mech forum to get a little more feedback. I'll post a bunch of pics here to get started and then show you what I'm working on now. Let me know what you think. First up, a couple test models to show you the scheme I'm using for my home-brew forgeworld, Kal'koplos. A Skitarii Vanguard: And an Infiltrator: Almost all the metals are either brass or copper, with just very sparing use of silver metals for things like ribbed cables. I wanted the brass to be very worn (using a simplified recipe from my Queen Bee knight) but the copper to be 'new penny' shiny. The blue is a very muted, dusty blue, and the tan and gray are close to neutral so they don't muddy up the palette too much. There's a lot going on with these models, so I tried to use a palette that had a lot of variation without looking wild or loud. I think these two models show one of the other odd things about Adeptus Mechanicus models: the ratios are very different from one unit type to the next. The Onager will be VERY heavy on the blue, whilst the Sicarians have very little, for instance. It's tough to come up with a scheme that balances everything out, but I'm pleased with this scheme so far. I did a serious of mockups in Photoshop to test various units. You can always click on my blog link in my signature if you want to read some older posts about coming up with this stuff. Anyway, I'll do a separate post with the 2 Vanguard squads I'm working on now.
