Gologotha Crusade Army

Recommended Posts

I notice a Crusade badge on each marine's knee pad that matches and then a marking on each right shoulder pad, would you care to explain your Crusade armies markings and how you came up with them and what they mean?

Thanks guys, the feedback helps encourage me to paint and convert more.

Vash113: Originally the crusade badge on the right knee was meant to be simple and easy to paint. I got the idea from reading the Compendium and Compelation books. They showed that the "Crusade Badge" would be on the right side/leg of the combatants involved. When the new I.G. codex comes out I'll be adding an army of them to the Crusade.

The Crusade Badge is the quartered circle/square in red and green. The red portions of the badge represented the forces that had been wronged by the Orks (Crimson Fists and Black Templar Crusade from my fluff) and needed to be avenged. The green portions indicated the forces that had not yet fought them (Imperial Fists and Soul Drinkers). Now that I've added the Iron Knights and a Kill team on the way (Sternguard), I think background wise they are going to belong to an Ordo Xenos force aiding them after the Crusade started.

The Battle Badges are on the right shoulder pad and are "Honors" given to that unit by either the Planetary Govenor/Official/or Mechanicus of the planets where they fought.

The short history of my Crusade is that it starts above Armaggedon right after Gazghull leaves but before Helbrecht and Commisar Yarrick chase him. A force of Templars are fighting in the Ash Wastes against an ork warboss who is in league with Tzeenchian sorcerers. The Templar force is almost killed to the man only leaving the Marshall and his sword breathren and the motor pool. The Emperor's Champion's armor and black sword is stolen and the warboss flees the Armaggedon system to the Golgotha sector. The Marshall is about to be sentenced for incompetence when a chaplain in Helbrechts household tells him of a vision by another Emperors Champion showing a great Crusade of Dorn's Sons chasing down the ork warboss and returning the armor and sword. The crusade leader had the same heraldry as the Marshall. Helbrecht sends the Marshall on the Crusade and enlists the help of the Imperial Fist force that just entered space along with the Crimson Fist scout force and the Soul Drinker squadron.

The Crusade follows the warboss into the Golgotha sector (Battlefleet Gothic background) and meets an Ordo Xenos force along with several regiments of Imperial Guard under the command of an Inquisitor. The forces merge under the joint direction of the Marshall and the Inquisitor.

Battle Badges:

Mechanicus Honorum: The battle of the Titan pens on Demios Prime. This medal honors the force that was instrumental in riding the Titan pens of the ork force under warboss Grimtuff Ironhide. The pens were liberated intact. The badge is a red cog with a green dot in the center. Recipients: Imperial Fist Assault squad Androcles, Black Templar Venerable Dreadnaught Vladamir.

Brothers Cross: The battle of Ein. The crusade fleet cornered an ork rock in the asteroid belt in the Ein system. The fleet was able to destroy the rocks shields and several units borded the rock. This unit reached the reactor core and set melta charges and destroyed the rock from the inside. The badge is a black medallion with a red cross. Recipients: Iron Knights tactical squad Tiberian and Techmarine Gregor.

Ulap Medal of Honor: The battle of Garjin City. Garjin City (Capitol of Ulap) was being over run by several tribes of feral orks. Several units were sent to evacuate key Imperial personell while others held back the horde. These squads were ambushed by several hundred orks and fought their way out of the ambush while saving the Governor and his household. Garjin City was later retaken with the help of several regiments of the Helion Prime Dragonriders. The badge is a gold medallion with a black cross and green dot in the center. Recipients: Soul Drinker tactical squad Abraxus and Crimson Fist Scout Detachment Damaris.

Iron Cross: The battle of Harkins world. Harkins world in the Demiral system. PDF forces and portions of the 2nd Regiment of the Helion Prime Dragonriders were able to contain an ork waagh in the Greyspire Mountains but were unable to make any progress into the rough terrain. Elements of the crusade utilized drop pods to affect a break through and allow the PDF and Imperial Guard forces to mop up the orks. The badge is a silver medallion with a black cross. Recipients: Black Templar Terminator squad Klaus, BlackTemplar Venerable Drednaught Vladamir and Imperial Fist Devastator squad Crassus.

Bariel Medal of Valor: The battle of Janus. Warboss Grasnick Dragnik landed several rocks onto Bariels Capitol hive (Janus). PDF command and control systems were taken out early on and the PDF in the hive was massacred. PDF forces from several other hives bottled up the orks in Janus but couldn't erradicate the ork presence. Portions of the crusade spearheaded the attack into the hive with the PDF forces secureing the ground behind. This medal was awarded to the marine that cornered and killed Dragnik and his mob deep in the hive. The badge is a gold medallion with a red pyramid in the center with a green dot in the center. Recipient: Black Templar Venerable Drednaught Vladamir.

Barbosa Medal of Honor: The battle above Barbosa-Ulap system. Two Kill Kroozers had seperated from the main ork fleet and headed into the Ulap system. Feral orks had overrun the majority of the planet Barbosa in the Ulap system and were waiting for the kroozers. The PDF forces were pushed back to the major cities as the orks waited. The kroozers began bombarding the cities. Several squads of marines aboard the Imperial Fists ships Gladius and Pilum boarded the Kroozers and crippled one of them and destroyed the other. The marines then landed on planet and lead the counter attack on the feral orks. The badge is a red medallion with a black chevron in the lower half with a green dot on the top center. Recipient: Mentors tactical squad Ping.

There you go...a short history of the Crusade badge/battle badge of my Crusade.

I figured my scouts needed a way to get around so this next project seemed appropriate. It's still kind of WIP, but you'll get the idea of where I'm going with it.

Yeah, looking good. What's the thing in the middle that uses the torch thingy and the... view thingy from the hunter-killer missile?

Loved your terminators by the way, are the helmets just brettonian helmets bashed in there? 'Cause I tried the same a while ago and it didn't work out too well ^_^

I have my own crusade army in the works, not up to this standard though and my camera is horrible for taking pictures of anything closer than 24".

The "thing" in the middle is a winch to haul up the scouts. Being painted I think it looks better. The heads on the terminators are Bretonnian Knights heads. I clipped them quite a bit to make them fit.

Well I've gotten this speeder painted, have at it and Merry Christmas.

I've been away from modeling/painting for awhile, but I've found some time with spring break. I wanted to add to my Crusade army to make it an entire company worth of marines but the funds were a limitation. I decided to merge my existing Black Templar army into the Crusade.

This is my first attempt at "reclaiming" models that have already been put together and painted. I striped them the best I could and fixed any major problems with them and gave them a nice new paint job. Here is a new tactical squad of Imperial Fists from the 3rd co. 2nd squad. My attempt is to get them to good tabletop standards.

It feels good to be back painting again. Have at them guys.

looks cool, love the clean job on the magnetic arms.

also the sword looks pretty cool

This is my second army with magnetized arms and weapons, it gets easier and cleaner the more you do it.

I have my doubts about the sword, thanks though. For some reason it just doesn't POP. I was hoping the lightning effect would come out better. I washed the sword in blue and brought up the lightning from dark to light blue and then added spots of white at the merging points of the lightning. I guess I'll have to practice some more on it.

Finals are done and summer school doesn't start for a couple of more weeks. Time to get painting.

Here are a couple of single models that I had to get done so I wouldn't have to proxy anymore. I'm also trying out a new lightbox. I may need to get some different lighting.

I recently played against a marine player who use Sternguard squads and I was amazed at their versatility, so I decided to make a squad of my own.

Now these are still some of my refurbished Black Templars. I did add somethings to give them some flavor from their original chapters, but they still look fairly "stock".

New recruits----Red and White Templars. After looking at the pics of the White Templars I'm not very happy with the way they turned out. I did a reverse highlight with them and I don't like it, however I'm not going to go back and micropen the nooks so they are as done as they get for now.

Well I'm still refurbishing some old marines and the DIY thread caught my eye.

I saw AngryJohny's color scheme for his Priory of Dorn and asked him if he wouldn't mind me doing a squad of them.

So with out further ado, here they are. One word though, it looks like my matte spray is a little glossy.

@Brother of the Temple: I really like how the squad came out. I hope the marines from the 9th company bring honor to your crusade! I particularly like the weathering on their legs. How did you do that? I think it would look really good on my own marines and their support vehicles. Did you use GW paints for them? If so which paints did you use?

Truth! Strength! Honor!
