WIP scrap/scratch built Khorne Dreadnought

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all the replies. It's great to see people are still interested in this, especially as it has been going for almost 4 years now. :D

Wow, my first ever post back there is really stupid. I could smack myself.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with your first post.

Perhaps a little more armour on the upper legs would look better

I have actually been basing the ideas for this off the metal chaos dread, which lacks the armour. However, I'm going to keep this in mind for when I attempt to scratch build a Ven Dread for my planned SM army though, (and yes, I am crazy enough to attempt this type of project again, and may even have plans for a much larger project using sprue, but don't tell anyone I said that :P ).

Ok, I read through this entire thread just now. When I got to the last page, looking at the dates I was beginning to get worried I would never see the feet ;)

I've been worried I would never get to them for the past 3 years, lol. It's been extremely hard to find something I am anywhere near happy with. I'm still not 100% set on these feet right now, but I am going to try tweaking them only a little to see if I can get them where I am happy to say they are done. Basically only going to add detailing to them from this point.

My only niggle right now is the exhausts on the back since they look like lascannons are on its back to wipe out any unfortunate aerial units flying over it. maybe trimming down the nozzle on the end so it's not pointed will do the trick or shortening it?

I think you may be right. I'm not sure whether just trimming the pointed part of the barrels will make them look better, but I will have a look at doing it. The other issue for me, is I want to bulk them out a bit on the longer narrow length of the barrels, just not sure the best way to do it, without completely rebuilding them.

I am hoping to get more done on this over the weekend, but have to see whether I am up for it, or if I'm in more of a painting mood. In which case, I'll be trying to finish off my 1250 point Nurgle army instead, lol

Just a tiny update. Have redone the exhaust pipes, and would like a little feedback on them. Do they look ok? I will be adding a little extra detail to them, and maybe have some chains and skulls hanging from them too.

I have also done some work on the raised foot.

The exhausts look a lot beefier now than before and don't scream lascannon backpack either Baldric. <_< A fine job, looking forward to seeing the details you'll be adding afterwards.

When this Dreadnought is finally painted Khorne shall weep tears of blood in joy for such a creation to finally be complete. ^_^

Threadnomancy at work. :P

It's been a while since I spent time on this, as I lost motivation to do anything hobby related for quite some time due to personal issues. Have just spent a little time adding bits and pieces of detail to this and thought I'd post some pics.

All c&c welcome, except maybe ones about how slack I am.

Tain't threadomancy if there be an update, friend. That's just called an "unavoidable delay".

Scary looking dread you have there! I really like what you did with the feet, and the little details you have dotted about are awesome. Like the flamer fuel tank on the left arm. The saw blade on the right arm is... yes. Just yes. Somewhere I think a Flesh Tearer is weeping with envy.
