BT army im working on

I don't think Sugar-free "over did it" with the checkered pattern on the chainsword. It looks awsome. Probably the best painting I've ever seen! Maybe your just jealous because you wish you could paint like that guy. Lets see your figs...or are you scared?.

Looking at the date you made that name and the post count you have says to me you are a older member hiding. I think I know exactly who you are. Anyways if your lucky I will post up a model using your camera B) . The only reason I said that about Sugar-free's C&C marine is because I actually believe it is over done. I think its better to give a real opinion, than to praise everything you see. I also think people that paint at much higher levels should be able to take constructive criticism. In this case it is not a mistake on the painters part just a difference of taste.

first off, you have no idea who I am ...we have never met! i am new to this site. If you're going to post a model, make sure its one of the models YOU painted and not one that SOMEONE ELSE painted for you in the past. Trust me I've seen the models you have painted and they sucks. Thats just constructive criticism!

I am very impressed by your painting skills (on both chapters)! Pray tell, how did you do the scribblings on the shoulder pads? I am very fond of such details, could you perhaps provide a close-up shot? (If it doesn't bother you, of course!)

Directed at infamousagenda and caramel, I wish to say that this is a forum where painters present their work in order to get praise and opinions, but also critique. I do not think the criticism concerning the checkers was out of line (i.e. too rude). Please do not turn this into a petty argument on who's better, as I would deem it detrimental to the overall nice atmosphere of this forum!

The warmth of the colors of the BT takes away the hardened zealotry and make them more medieval knight like.

Sadly I have to agree with infamousagenda in that the pattern on the chainsword is a little much, and I'd have done it a single color (just my taste) although BT are known for ork kill markers in that pattern and if the entire sword has that many checkers, then thats a lot of headless nobs. So fluffwise it does make sense although it may detract a bit aesthetically, but fluff comes first for me and its a justified piece.

[but Caramel, don't over react. No one said Sugar free was a poor painter, simply that he went overboard on the checkers.]

haha =I= Stern. Thats a bit much, penitent crusades are far more reasonable. Besides being BT you don't need to add black penitent markings :)

ok, checkerboards. i was going for a medieval: knights of the round kinda thing. so i wanted them flashy. didn't mean to start a war. lol. no big deal.

give me a sec. and i will try and take a pic. i usually use just some black ink and my detail brush, but sometimes i will use a fine tip pen.for quickness.

You can trust me, the above quote is not 'constructive criticism'. Please keep the commentary civil. It's okay to have different tastes on the BnC; however, it is not okay to take personal jabs at each other.

Brilliant painting though.... much better than mine... if only mine were that good.... :P

That is some TIGHT WORK! The symbols on the razorback really stand out. It looks like you put some real thought into the doodads placement. I think thats how marines would really have their vehicles look. As for the marine, I think you have something with all the marines either standing or walking. It gives the army imposing character. I enjoy this marine alot, he looks well painted and crisp. He has alot of colors on him and it brings alot of flavor into the model. GOOD WORK! Your work is very inspiring (hopefully I'll get more motivated for my stuff)!

Aw jeez. I felt all special for making progress on my first Black Templar marine ever (first painted mini in like...over ten years) and then I see this. Man I have a long way to go :D Great job, bro! You need to field those in the Macharian Crusade that Bell of Lost Souls is hosting! ;)

Sugar-free,

I really really like your new emp champ. Your space marines are always amazing, you can always pick out the detail so well. Recently, I have been teaching people at my store some basic technics and I have to say that when your painting a model for someone else quickly to show the basics, it can be really disappointing when a student picks outs the flaws (especially if the person doesnt paint as well as you do.). I mention this because during the time I painted with you I use to nit pick alot, and you paint superbly, I didnt give you enough credit. You paint better than I do and I guess I just wanted to kinda get to your level. Oh well, anyways I really hope you finish this army, it looks fantastic so far.

Question do you still use the same gold recipe? Dragon gold, Brown ink, then dry brush dwarven brazen, shining gold and Gw's brightest gold? Or has it changed? Also your white recipe changes all the time.. is it still that yellowish color and then white?

My goodness ! Your blending is INSANE. Your an extremely talented painter.. everything is blended so smoothly, even to the littlest details. Great job! I'm going to have to try and blend the greys on black armor like you've done instead of the line highlightinhg. Your's looks cleaner, more realistic, and just plain better.

Any tips on how you blend the greys like that?

To see that thing on the other side of the table would be an amazing experience in it's own!

yes i use " all " of gw's gold. after i put on the darkest gold i use a heave flesh wash. then highlight from there. after all that i use a reaper brass to put the final highlight to make it pop. my whites are different. if i want it to look like a pure white i base in space wolves grey the white. otherwise i might start with a bleach bone. it just depends on what the item is or how i want it to pop.

for the highlighting black, i use about 4 reaper greys. from very dark to light. you just have to mix up. keep your colors as close to last as you can when highlights. that way you can do a light dry brush and it wont look streaky.

i hope i help alittle. but i have to cut this short i have to go to work, get back to this later

have fun all
