g-relk
*Dr. Nick Riveara voice* "hi everybody" </silliness> anyway, its my first post on these forums, so go easy  this year im going to attempt to start and finish 200pts of iron hands (a re-do of my first army EVER) so, to start, here is the WIP pics of the 3rd of the 3 venerable dreads in the army http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0050wew.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0049wew.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0048wew.jpg these are with the arms i built for him a couple of months back while i was bored attached. the shield is made of thick card thats hardened with super-glue (coz i dont have access to plasticard) http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0051wew.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0052wew.jpg and heres him with the other dreads from this army, and the dread from my original iron hands army http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0053wew.jpg C&C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/ Share on other sites
venrake the immortal
why is that dread wearing a shield and has no second wep..? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1532732 Share on other sites
g-relk
why is that dread wearing a shield and has no second wep..? it has the storm bolter attached to the main sarcophagus a bit below the crux thingy. it has a shield because each of the dreads in the army have a sort of theme or role, this one is breaching/anti-tank. so the big sheild thing (i call it a breaching shield, but each to there own) is a round about way of giving it extra armour, its also for looking kool  the sheild also sorta counts as a power fist. the one on the left is for assualt/anti-infantry, and the one thats second from the right is for long range support. the fourth dread is from my original iron hands army. i was thining of making a servo arm for it to represent the currently-non-existant power fist, how do you reckon that would look??? EDIT: heres the pic of my techmarine HQ http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer0044.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1532740 Share on other sites
g-relk
ok, sorry for the lack of updates, but works been busy lately and i havent had time to do anything. first up, i changed the way the breaching sheild is mounted, changed the head in the sarcophagus, and removed the chest eagle and replaced it with GS some armour plating. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0061ewe.jpg i also buggered around with some spare bits i had collected and churned out some very WIP sergeants sans legs, coz i dont have any bionic ones :P they also dont have any left shoulder pads because i also dont have any of the GW iron hands ones yet (ordering 3 IH tactical squad box sets soon) http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0063ewe.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0064ewe.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0065ewe.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0066ewe.jpg EDIT: sorry about the blurry pics my camera-fu is low tonight... i might get some time to start painting the dread this week, but prolly not C & C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1543182 Share on other sites

Rymeer
the dreadnought looks nice, but you forgot something. Add a bit of hollow plastic tube stock to the ends of the silver 'pistons' in the legs.. just one bit, about 1/3 the length of the piston itself. This would give the visual 'body' of a piston that the piston rod moves in and out of (see any good car related site for what a piston looks like). Concidering this is Iron Hands chapter, I'd go with something like necron 'flayed ones' claws to make up a DCCW that would scare the Horus right ouf of an opponet. But, that's just me. Concider, use, or reject. All ideas are just that, ideas. Use or not, as you choose. Rymeer thanks for the suggestions Rymeer, but my access to hobby stuff (such as plasticard and tubes) is extremely limited. i would have done something like that, but for one thing: i dont have any plastic tube. the rod i used is some stainless steel stuff dad got from work, and its so hard i have to use a dremel to cut it. i did actually use the tomb spider fist thingy for one of my other dreads DCCW, and it came out a treat (see last picture of first post). the first dread i lengthened the legs on (for my relictors army) has pieces of those banner poles from the old biker kit to lengthen the legs because i had nothing else small enough Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1547516 Share on other sites
g-relk
ok, i have the first rank-and-file marine here. its just a tyanid hunter with all the ultramarines stuff files off, the damage GS'd over, and the old right shoulder pad replaced with one from the tank sprue to do my clan marking on. ill post more pics as i paint him (sorry this ones a little blurry, but atm hes just undercoated) http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0076rer.jpg C&C welcome! g-relk
bit of an update here i decided to rescue the iron father model that i had from my original iron hands army and convert him up a bit. wen id done him the first time, for some silly reason id changed the bolt bistol hand to a bolter one. so, a new bolt pistol and hand was pinned on and bionicified, a back pack built from the heavy bolter backpack from the space marine servitor model, and a servo arm from the tech preist model was then pinned onto this. the aerials are made from paperclips, one of which was bent into a circle (ish) i also fiddled around with building bionic legs etc with the other 2 guys, one of which is a champion for my command squad, the other a veteran in said squad. the head on the normal veteran is one from the iron warriors box set with the horns cut off, and the legs are 2 differant sets of assualt marine legs put into a slow walking pose. anywho, without further adue, here they are: http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x61/g-relk/warhammer/DSCF0085ewe.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1556730 Share on other sites

snorkle
Your Bionic legs look pretty good. My only suggestion would be to use the tubes in pens to make pistons. Your Iron-father's looking good. Do you have any pics from other angles? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1558734 Share on other sites

kravi
I think this army is looking great. And just as a heads up, the feedback you are getting is complementary. When people sound "critical" it's because they think you are doing a great job. If your work was not so good, all you'd hear is "very nice" and "not bad" (that's what I get when I post a mini) :P So keep the posts coming, your army looks great. --Me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1558875 Share on other sites
Bannus
You have some neat conversion work going on there - particularly with your Sergeants. I'm not a big fan of the shield on your Dread though - I think it obscures too much interesting details and doesn't have enough visual interest of its own to make up for that. The other Dread conversions are stellar - the army has a really nice feel overall. Keep it up. g-relk
@ kravi: i realise the replys i was getting were good, but i can take crits, coz i can take it in my stride and use them to further my skills, but i cant improve, or know if you (or other members) think if you dont post something. the reason i may have sounded a bit whingy in my second last post is that im doing this to see what others think, and act on it. but thats kinda hard to do when no-one replys ;) @ Bannus: im not happy with the way its mounted now either, but to mount the thing i had to cut off the original standard arm mounting mechanism, so the change is permanent. i deffinately wont be doing another sheild (or one in the particular position at least. also, i read your iron hands codex the other night after printing it off, and am very impressed, the ony thing is that in the entry for paullian blantar, there is no description of the effects of his "gifted in the machine cult" special rule in the codex, tho the rest is great im going to start painting the 4 servitors for my techmarine tonight, and the servitor that count as a scout with heavy bolter as well. any good recipes for painting red cloth that you know?, my one doesnt give quite enough deffinition to thee folds and such. other thing i wanted to ask about: do the blue purity seals look wierd?? coz they look fine when they are attached to metal or white prats, put look a bit out of place on black im thinking that if i change it to red tho (like i was going to do) theyll look wierd when put on metal. Muller
Yeah well... how much of that Iron Father is still actually "living"? To me it looks like a dreadnought in re-built power armor moer than an adpetus astartes ;) (I hope my point comes across here :P) He looks great but detail on the eyes would make him look more complete... On your shielded dread, drop the shield and rebuild the mounting arm into a wrecking club or something instead, that shield just looks so wrong and out of place to me. g-relk
Yeah well... how much of that Iron Father is still actually "living"? To me it looks like a dreadnought in re-built power armor moer than an adpetus astartes ^_^ (I hope my point comes across here :P) He looks great but detail on the eyes would make him look more complete... On your shielded dread, drop the shield and rebuild the mounting arm into a wrecking club or something instead, that shield just looks so wrong and out of place to me. the iron fathers are the epitomy of the iron hands belief that the flesh is weak, so pretty much all of them is bionic (with some all thats left is the brain :D ), however they still belief that the best combination of the flesh and mechanical is being put inside a dreadnought. i tried painting the eyes on him but they came out looking really odd. i think i might try and give him dark circles under his eyes and c how that goes. im not really good at doing faces yet, i need more practice (and doing an army thats pretty much all helmeted doesnt help :P ) EDIT: i forgot to put the other pictures i took of him up last night, ill do that and give you guys some WIP shots of one of the command squad marines. Penitent Dreadnought
If you're going to leave the rings on the barrels of those Ork weapons-turned-exhausts, you might thing about using them to maybe chain the shield to the Dread from the left one, and maybe hang a brazier off the right one. Brother_Beork
Cool, I like the home made binics, some more detail can be added, but they look great already. I also paint most bionics silver only, but I get a lot of comments on that. Most people like to see a few different colours as to notice the details a bit better. Might be sound advice, I don't know, haven't painted anything that way yet. good work, show more  Beork Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/#findComment-1562901 Share on other sites
