g-relk
I just wait until my friends break a couple strings.replacing the strings on a guitar once gives you enough for the bionics on over 10 models :( yeah, i know. dads starting to learn to play the guitar, and he broke some strings, so he gave the complete set to me and bought some really nice ones off the net. i then bought the bass guitar ones off ebay for AUD$10 or so with postage. the single strand bell wire i have a bought at the local tip shop. 50m roll for $2! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/page/3/#findComment-1569859 Share on other sites

Weiss
Damn nice! I like the way you've constructed the leg bionics. How do you start it? Do you use a rod as a base, or do you just cobble it together in an ad-hoc fashion? g-relk
started off with a paperclip in the middles, then i just superglued guitar strings and bits of wire around it. nothing hard, just very fiddly (tweezers are my friends). the GS bolts and knee joint/pad were the hardest thing to do, because, as i said, its my first time doing any serious GSing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/page/3/#findComment-1569984 Share on other sites
Weiss
That's the method I planned to use. Good to see it works! for smooth surfaces on green stuff (this is a tip picked up from Doghouse), get the putty in the shape you want it, let it cure for a little while so it'll retain it's shape better when you touch it (twenty minutes or so), then take the blunt end of the gw sculpting tool and apply some vaseline to it (petroleum jelly). Gently rub the tool in circles on the surface you want smooth. Watch you don't push too hard though. With patience the putty will smooth out. Oh, and if you're adding more greenstuff to that layer, wait until it is fully cured then wash the jelly off (the new stuff has no chance of sticking if you apply it straight on...). g-relk
finished the librarian (pending gloss varnish on the metallics) the pictures came out a little blurry coz of all the metal on him, but they are still fairly good. im VERY pleased with the way the flames came out (cosidering this is the only the second time that ive painted flames!) Rajden
Looks awesome! So that's what you've been up to. I really like the model but there is three tings I'd give critiqe on. The axe doesn't look finished, somethins missing - maybe a lighter color to that purple? Also, the legjoints are blue, I allways paint mine in some metallic but I have to say that it looks good the way it is now. I think the rope on his shoulder looks rather dark... But i gotta hand ya a cockie for the models overall look. Keep up the good work! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/page/3/#findComment-1575680 Share on other sites

Keep up the good work! <_< thanks for the comments. and the cookie, it was quite nice :D normally i do mine a shade of grey for the joints, but i wanted to give something else a try with this guy, and i think it turned out ok. not great, but not bad. agreed on the axe, but i actually did highlight the purple snakey sorta bit, so i dunno, maybe another wash of liche purple on the axe blade itself is in order. ill put another drybrush of graveyard earth onto the rope to lighten it up a bit. the other thing i wasnt sure about is the skull on top of the psychic hood. do you think that i should paint it gold instead of bone??? Rajden
No, IMO I think you should keep the skull the way it is, you have quite a bit of gold details on the model already. It looks good the way it is. :tu: Are you going to paint his eyes or keep it the way it is? Weiss
Loving the Warsmith conversion man, got one of those underway myself. The Iron Warriors bodies fit very well with the IH feel. Is the guitar wire thing leading into that guys bionic eye? It looks great anyway. Can't wait to see a whole army of these guys, they're going to look great! Weiss
Thanks man! They look very good. The only details I'm not too sure about are the faces. Maybe a wash of bestial brown to bring some more contrast would help. Other than that :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132995-iron-hands-army-blog/page/3/#findComment-1594841 Share on other sites
g-relk
yeah, im pretty <DELETED BY THE INQUISITION> at doing faces still. im thinking of going back to the way i did it for my relictors (basecoat of graveyard earth highlighted up to 50/50 elf flesh.skull white. theyll mostly be helmeted tho, so i wont worry too much. i mite do another serg with a bare head (the half bionic one from the tactical squad box) for one of the tactical squads and leave it at that, i bought some of the black templar heads so i have lots of variety (SM, BT, IH, IW, vehicle sprue). im going to start building the tactical squads soon. and get around to doing the finishing touches and base for my predator. rank and file marines FTW!!!
