captain Raiun
Now that's what I call going above and beyond. You do know you're only required to model a single mini right? But it looks fantastic, I've got a feeling you may be on Iacton's christmas list. Once again, I second Molotov's :P . Nothing but praise my friend. Congratulations. @Crazy Eight: While your models are nice, I'm afraid this thread is for mini's from the DIY Swap project only. Showcase them in the WIP forum proper and you'll get some feedback, but not in here. Sorry. Honda
If anyone feels offended I will happily remove the figure if so desired. I am 50% Seminole Indian (and 50% Greek, which puts all the diversity yoyo's knickers in a twist) and I say "Rock On, Brave Eagle" Oh, and I've already voted yours as best diorama. Unbelievably cool. Phal Brannon
This project is producing some really promising wips, its cool how committed everyone is. Here is the Jackel of Neter-Khertet I'm working on. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/Rogaldorn_album/jackelwip.jpg I've been working on the grey armour, bone trim and bone helm and I think they’re about done, There’s still quite allot to do like the metallics, details/markings and base. Red-Dragon
Hey You are some magical guys! I wish i had the talent to make models as nice as those. ImperialTemplari: That is amazing. Anyone who may be offended by it will most probably be more astounded by its pure Awesomeness. Im definatly going to keep checking this thread. Honda
Phew! It was a bit of a scramble, but here is my guy for the Phantoms After reading through the Phantom's fluff, realizing that they are from the White Scars, I got the idea to follow a Mongolian theme. So after looking at a lot of pictures like this... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/italeri-6020-golden-horde.jpg ...I decided to do a regular trooper, but I wanted him to convey things like speed, hunting, a certain feral look to him, and something of the Asian steppes. So this is what I ended up with: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/DeathRainRun38116.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/DeathRainRun38115.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/DeathRainRun38114.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/DeathRainRun38113.jpg Note: The green thing on the back has had some texture added to it so that it looks more like a horse tail. I also came across some very intriguing images of Mongolian script: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/mongol1.png http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/cingis1.png http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/burqan1.png http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/DIY/language.jpg I'm going find a way to work that script into the armor decorations somehow. Anyway, I wanted the team to know that I am in the game. Painting may come a bit slowly as I have another project ongoing, but I will get some time on him as soon as I can. C&C greatly appreciated! Hubernator
as the owner of the Phantoms I say nice job :o I'm actually excited to see the finished model of this :o It's a different look on it as well. I wasn't thinking of using writing or things on the head. But go ahead. Keep it up :) EDIT: My IA is being completely revamped. The geneseed is still WS and the speed & stealth thing still applies. Brother Cambrius
Damn you Honda! That was the pose I put Vaaish's marine in last week. Not much progress has happened on my end as I'm still searching for an auspex and the paints I need. ;) Cambrius Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/3/#findComment-1592931 Share on other sites
Vaaish
well I figured I should probably show something since it doesn't look like I'll be getting much farther tonight. I still have to glue on the right arm and finish his mace, but here is the chaplain I'm working with for the Sublimators. http://www.digitalequinox.com/wip/chaplain.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/3/#findComment-1593157 Share on other sites

Sigismund Himself
Looking good Vaaish ^_^ No progress from me, I'm afraid. I've somehow managed to catch a bad case of the flu (fever, headache, sneezing, the whole works) so as I don't particularly want to ruin it in a delirious state, I'm not letting myself work on it until I feel at least 90%. Vaaish
Got a bit more time today so I finished up most of primary construction. I have a bit to do to the helmet some clean up work on the crozius and I think he will be ready for painting. http://www.digitalequinox.com/wip/chaplain02.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/3/#findComment-1593413 Share on other sites
Honda
@Vaaish: HOLY COW! HOW DID YOU DO THAT HELMET? I NEED TO STEAL THAT IDEA, PLEASE REVEAL YOUR SECRET!!! No kidding, I really like your chaplain. Just brilliant...and I am very interested in how you did the helmet. @Brother Cambrius: Bro', we're on the same team, it's not a problem. Think of my pic as merely preparing everyone for your incredible image! @BOBMAKENZIE: Very sweet, nice use of parts for the heavy flamer. Also the powerfist on him adds the aura of, "Get close to me...please". @Hubernator: Ok, I'm to the point where I am now visualizing the paint scheme. My problem is this, I keep seeing this guy with bone - very off white shoulder pads. The rim color is the same, in fact everything else is the same, but the shoulder pads just keep coming back to me that way. So my questions are: 1. Can you envision a scenario/reason where a trooper (e.g. battle honor, honor guard, etc.) would be wearing something like this? 2. Am I taking your vision in a direction you don't think it should go? I know we're supposed to give our entries another perspective on the original concept, but I don't want to distort the original vision beyond where it was intended. I don't want it to be something like someone taking my chapter and saying, "Ok, I like the white/black thing, but I really see these guys in DA Green with robes", it just wouldn't work. So nothing to rush about, I'm still looking at him and "visualizing", I'm just curious. God dammit, back to the drawing board *sighs* :P Seriously though, you guys are making me (and a few others) look bad with your shiny models. So I will report back on a bit of progress, but alas no pics :P The torso, head and banner are all done. I'm having a bit of trouble with the mkIV legs, but they're taking shape. Also having a nightmare trying to find a right arm that would fit into the pose selected by Honda. All in all, not much to look at. But I will get some pictures up soon, I promise. @Vaaish: I see you do have the skills worthy of the sketch. But what happened to his mace? I thought it looked good. Now he just looks normal... :( Also loving the helmet, I second the call for a rundown of how you made it! Looks like you added the front of a skull to a helmet and GS'ed to make it look natural? @BOBMAKENZIE: I like the pose, and the fact that it looks like the P Fist has crushed the handle of the MM :P Also looks like the marine arm at the botom is supporting the weapon. @Honda: That's a good job conveying speed and movement there Do you have any idea what that script says? 'Coz I certainly don't... Keep up the good work guy's. Vaaish
Thanks! The helmet was pretty simple, just took a standard marine head and sliced off the face a little past the crest vent and then took a skull from a WFB banner pole and sliced off the back and sanded until the two meshed well, glued it and filled in an gaps with GS. I decided that the crozius is one of the most recognizable symbols of a chaplain and that he probably wouldn't have have something that looks too different, but I did do a conversion using a the aquillai backpack bit for the crozius top. teh_perfesser
I'm having a bit of trouble with the mkIV legs, but they're taking shape.Don't feel bad, I'm having trouble with legs as well. Took me an hour just to find the right sized pebble after the two and a half hours it took to cut and pin the legs *sigh* AND its still not quite right. None of my pins lined up right at all, but I did gain a new respect for folks that can reposition legs well. At least this is the most significant conversion I'm doing on this model. Bigger-than-Jesus
I have some work done on mine, but not muchas I'm working on an =][= scale marine, and that uses a lot of time/patience/paint so I'll be a while. @ Vaaish, is it alright if I rob that idea for a chaplain when I redo my Ultras? Honda
@Vaaish: Would that skull be from the Chaos Warriors sprue? @CR: Remember, it's a marathon, not a 100m dash. I have to start a little hot out of the blocks because of other commitments later on so I don't want to sacrifice the project because of bad planning. Each in his own time. We'll all get there and it will be glorious. Vaaish
I honestly don't know, but I believe it's a sprue for warhammer fantasy battles. It's a ragged looking sort of triangular banner with two skulls hanging down on the bottom of it. Someone with importance I would think. As for the model, I don't think have writing on it would well. I just couldn't see it IMO. The head is good - if you paint that either black or yellow I think it would work nicely :P As for the white shoulders... well you can guess what I would say to it :P Keep it up, I'm waiting for the results (and the day I actually go out and get models & paints for Barret's chapter AND mine :)) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/3/#findComment-1593821 Share on other sites

It's a ragged looking sort of triangular banner with two skulls hanging down on the bottom of it.So it's not cut off the skull helmet from the warriors sprue? That makes it even more insane... Correct me if I'm wrong, but judging from your description, I believe the skull used is from the Beastman Regiment box.
