ImperialTemplari
hi guys, nearing completion, only have a few small details to complete, however I am really trying to improve my skills and would like to know if anyone has any ideas to improve it. I would like to get to the level that I could be competitive in painting comps. Hi Iacton what do you think? do they have the feel you were after when you created the chapter? any thing you would have done differently? Iacton
Hi ImpTemp! It is what I imagined and then some! No noble proud and aloof guys here, homicidal flesh munchers only need apply!! :P Great work, hope to see the final image very soon. On a note of my own model, the figure has changed quite a lot now and power fist has become storm bolter. He is primed, ready for some serious brush licking this weekend! Iacton
Right, changed my mind on the fist - just couldn't make it work and then stumbled upon the GD Veteran model from a couple of years back, sitting in the box, forlornly requesting a paint up. So I partially acceded to it's request and lobbed the arm onto the Castigator, tweaked it a bit, primed him and started the painting process. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/Iacton/Castigator/WIP2.jpg The base is largely done, but I spent a while on getting the "red" about right, and because I'm playing with the new washes too, I've gone all out with shading the armour. I hope that the muted red is right Comm. Molotov? I shall do squad markings a bit later on, but I think that I'll do the cabling next and work on the face late on for a change. I may even attempt some battle chips and stuff, but let's not get carried away ;) Anyway, C&C so far please chaps :teehee: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/7/#findComment-1613689 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
Iacton, that looks incredible. How did you achieve such a clean red? I see you've undercoated the model in white primer, seems that's the way to go. Honda
I also want to state that I am still in, but due to a number of Life Events , not able to make progress just yet. My guy is due to be primed in the next week which should allow me to start making progress on him. Those of you who are making progress, thanx for keeping the thread alive until I can get back in the game. @IT: Simply amazing! I see you've undercoated the model in white primer, seems that's the way to go. Thanks Darth. I was sort of trying out the whole "painting by numbers" thing that GW are pushing now. I would most likely not follow that sort of thing again, but I'm feel quite pro-GW at the moment (I won the store heat of the National Painting Competition on Saturday with my Night Lord model ^_^ )! I also NEVER EVER prime in white, but again I thought "What the hell". So it was white primed, several thinned out coats of mechrite red - until it was really flat and even, which isn't so easy with white undercoat  . 1st wash of baal red, 2nd of devlan mud into the recesses and shadows - unfortunately I went a bit far and it was horrid, so I mixed thinned scab red and devlan mud and blended the dark and light together. Then went over the blend again and the lighter areas with pure scab red. Highlights were applied with 1st h/light of scab red and magenta ink, then a second of slightly more magenta and slightly less scab red. Final h/light of some blood red added to the previous mix. After that I did apply some extra shades and tidied up the little lines in the armour with some of the purple wash - whatever it's called! I may go for final highlights, but I want to get the base coats complete and the model fully assembled before I address that. Just glad to be painting again after nearly 3 weeks without a brush in hand. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/7/#findComment-1614133 Share on other sites

Iacton
No, the hand was from the old devastator sgt. arm. Straight arm was used for wielding a sword instead, so the hand was sitting around. captain Raiun
I'm also still in :) been working on my Painting Comp entry, which narrowly lost to an amazing dwarf that was entered 10 mins before the deadline :) . On a happier note, i have been making small progress on the Apocalypse Lords, decided to try my hand at salt dipping to produce the bended legs. Progress is slow. Also started on a display base. @Imperial Templari: :o Words have failed me mate, I am truly gobsmacked. You put the rest of us to shame. Well, maybe not, but you get my point. @Iacton: Also very impressed with your Castigator, that is a wonderful red. Maybe you should mess up more often ;) Looking good everyone, let's get some more models up here! Rindaris
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y24/jeskasl/SANY0446.jpg Jester of Slaughter Not really sure I'm done. Could use a bit of flocking on the bare part of the base. And maybe a few more touchups, and definitely some matte spray at the end of the day. But overall... just about done. Rindaris
Perhaps. Being in the process of moving in with my girlfriend and not having as much time to paint as I thought I would, I take what I can get. Iacton
The Castigator has moved on quite a bit now. Armour done as such - may go back to a bit of fine highlights and shades, but I'll wait on that. Head is done - except for the bionic eye lens. Banner has been coloured up as such, ready for a design - of what I am really not sure - suggestions all you Castigator vets? Lot of the NMM is done, some needs a touch of tidying and the storm bolter needs some blue/purple washing. Base also done - will tidy up the rim at the end. Squad markings and stuff to still be mapped out also. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/Iacton/Castigator/WIP3.jpg Anyway, C&C so far  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137632-the-diy-swap-marines/page/7/#findComment-1618773 Share on other sites
