utilityzero Posted February 6, 2010 Share Posted February 6, 2010 @OMG, is it now proper for crusade/heresy era marines to carry assault cannons? i thought reaper autocannons were the standard? very nice though, i don't normally dig the over-sized shoulder pads, but i like the way yours came out and i very much like the helmets, especially on the sergeant, or, i guess in the luna wolves he would be a line captain since he leads a terminator squad? they never did make much sense of ranks in the HH books. If I’m not mistaken, the thought that the Reaper was the standard auto cannon is a throw-back to the Chaos Codex; i.e. if Chaos uses it, it must have been conventional wargear during the Heresy. That could very well be. And yet, Abnett describes Luna Wolf terminators using stormbolters as well – again, I’ve heard that twin-linked bolters should be used for the same reason. I painted these up for the Golden Bolters so I had to stick with the confines of the contest rules. Still, I could have made them Chaos terminators and used all the old Chaos gear – BUT – then I couldn’t use the squad on the tabletop with my other LW’s as they’ve been built based on the C:SM. Just enough to keep your head spinning. Shouldn't they be black, OMG? Luna Wolf termies were black if I'm right... I’ve heard that before but I’ve never caught a reference. I would have to look this up but I (kinda) recall that when Horus & Abaddon got their armor it was black but I don’t recall reading that the terminators that were part of the 63-19/Whisperhead attack. So criticize me all you’d like. I’ve found it very difficult at best to come up with a set of rules that absolutely govern Pre-Heresy/Heresy Era modeling. Indeed, thats how I see it. So criticize me all you’d like. I’ve found it very difficult at best to come up with a set of rules that absolutely govern Pre-Heresy/Heresy Era modeling. I think this phrase sums up at least in part the big reason for doing pre-heresy modelling and painting - there are no official GW pictures in books saying "if you have these models, then paint them like this." Its an opportunity to give our imaginations free reign. I know this isn't what GW expressly wants, and in many ways there ethos of supporting creativity goes completely against it, but the danger of a completely defined universe is that anything made within it becomes overly codified. When so much of the hobby is based on our own artistic creativity, having definitions streamlined like this can make for the detriment of the hobby. A few months ago I overheard a conversation between a couple of relative youngsters discussing each others army. One of the kids had some Eldar spliced with wood elf bits to give them a kind of exodite look. I don't think this was really intentional, although it was certainly an interesting attempt. The other kid turned to him and said, "why can't you just do them like the book tells you to?" It made me pretty sad to hear - hopefully it was an isolated case, but I can't help but feel its a by-product of GW's success over recent years, and a negative aspect of that success. Pre Heresy gives the opportunity to take pretty much any angle you like with an idea, and I think thats one of the major factors of its popularity. Hopefully GW won't bring out official versions of the PH Legions, and things will continue in a similar vein! They don't look like they are the right size. They towered over their brother marines. Your's do with the help of a stone, a step, etc...and that's a shame. Also it seems to me that on Sanguinius' model, you haven't done much work on the armour, maybe add something?
