I'm not a huge fan of basic black for a color scheme but they're your boys so you're the one that needs to be happy with them. :) That said, they look pretty good for basic black. I'd personally like a bit more color on kneepads and other bits to break things up more.

I don't have a problem with the name at all. I personally find the basic black with red trim far more cliche than the name. If the name stays, you could use the symbol from the Scythes of the Emperor in red instead of black. Or you could use the SotE symbol as is (black) and make the shoulderpad inset white or red instead of black. Frankly I think the red inset with black symbol will give them some much needed additional color.

I'll most likely add more details etc when i get more experienced m8 but for now i just want to get the basics right and have a half-deccent army to start using

Thanks for the kind words m8!

Decided to change the chapter name inline with the fluff im writing.

Basically as my chapters derived from the Salamander gene-seed i think

The "Emperors Ashes" is more appropiate name

The chapters symbol/ insignia will be this once ive sorted out making the decal

Hi daismith906, they look OK, but very plain, maybe once you have sharpened your skills by painting the whole army go back and add some more details squad by squad, add colour to knee pads, tac symbols, company markings, campaign badges etc, some weathering would look good too.

Sorry, I was gone for the weekend and just got back to this. SotE is short for GW's chapter Scythes of the Emperor and their symbol is a pair of crossed scythes but it's a moot point as you've gone past this idea already. I like the new name and the new symbol.

Excellent for your first minis. But you don't have to hand paint tactical symbols. If you don't want to invest in transfer paper and take the time to make several trial sheets to get it right... you can always go to some place like Fighting Pirannah graphic and order 'em. I did that for my Crusading Lions Chapter symbols. Tactical symbols I used pre-made shoulder pad bits, before they were yanked by GW from sale. I still have enough to fill out my full company of marines, and enough of the old transfers from 2nd and 3rd edition model boxes to do up the 80 or 90 more marines I have still on sprues.

Enough from me,

Rymeer

P.S. Your paint scheme is simple and probibly fast to paint up. This is really a GOOD thing if you're looking at building a Apocalypse style battle company sized unit in the end.
