Claws of Lorek Renegade Marine Battle Company plus Friends!

I put this in the log on warseer but forgot to put it here, so here it is:

Goals:

All plastic body army

Minimal conversions

Minimal GS on certain models only.

Average table top quality paint job.

Fluffy

Most of all - Completed by November 1st

Ok so the goals are pretty straight foward. It shouldnt be hard to accomplish the all plastic body army as its a ton of marines. There will be the odd metal bitz but thats just so each marine is diffrent, which is gonna get hard with the 112 marines there will be in the end. I want to keep all the conversions easy and straight foward, I want to be able to assemble at least 5 guys a night. Same minimal work with the GS since again, I wont have time to spend on getting fancy. Once again, same reason for the paint job. Im not trying to win any awards at the event, I just want a fully painted force to stomp some loyalist scum.

Now fluffy, thats kinda hard to explain. Basically I see each squad as a perfect picture image of thier parent chapters traits. Example of the ultra marines having a flamer and missle launcher along with the vet sgt "posing". Also, it will be a normal battle company using the battle company datasheet for apocalypse. 6 tactical squads, 2 assault and 2 devestator with a 10 man command squad, commander and chappy for good measure. So far paint jobs are as follows:

Command Squad

Claws of Lorek Recruits along with real members and 1 other chapter marine. (this will make more sense when you see the squad completed)

Tactical Squads

Ultramarines

Lamenters

Raptors (probably the old school paint scheme, not the olive green and gills)

Soul Drinkers

Space Sharks

(still undecided, open to ideas)

Assault

Howling Griffons (maybe something else, im open to ideas)

Mortifactors

Devestator

Mentor Legion

Silver Skulls

Some random Fluff. Note im no author and I have horrible grammer, if you havent already noticed. Oh and I dont spell check. yes I know its easy but eh.

Homeworld:

Jadajean along with a large fleet of strike cruisers and 3 battle barges.

Recruitment:

The southern continent is used to train new recruits from other chapters as well as recruit new claws of lorek using thier own geneseed.

The Claws of Lorek have a very interesting way of judging those who are worthy to join thier renegade chapter. One of the biggest resources the Claws look for are slaves, strong and battle hardened ones. This valuable resource is not for sacrafice, or some bizarre reason, but simply used as enemy stock. On the Claws of Lorek homeworld of Jadajean, the entire southeren continent has been turned into a giant restockable battle ground. Fresh slaves are dropped off all over the continent weekly, and left to scavange the weaponry that has been left all amongst the ruins that spread the length and width of the continent. Who built and then destroyed this once massive city are unknown as whatever happened took place thousands of years earlier.

Rengade Space Marines, no matter what chapter they have come from, must take part in what is known as "the final test". It consists of squad sized groups of marines being dropped off randomly across the continent and left there for 1 terran year to survive. Normaly all the marines in each squad are from the same chapter, and gathered over a long period of time so they kill the slave stock and not each other. During this time they are watched and judged by hidden outposts that the Claw masters can watch from.

If the marines survive the year, they are able to join the rengade chapter. They are required to wear thier old chapter colors and badges except for thier power plant, left shoulder guard and arm along with the helmet, which are in the normal Claws of Lorek scheme. They almost never gain a rank higher then battle brother as they have, what the Claws consider, defunct geneseed. Those inplanted with Lorek's own geneseed are generally allowed advancement into the chapters higher levels.

If a slave manages to kill a marine, for whatever reason, they are usually taken directly for hypno-indoctronation so they may join the Claws of Lorek, using Lorek's own geneseed. Once they become a true battle brother they are taken to join a command squad overseeing marines from other chapters. Thus, the Claws remain masters over the other marines, most of the time that is.

Small update:

Sgts banner tommorow as im stuck on how to complete it. Right now the left side is half the ultra symbol, the other half is the Claws pattern. It looks good but kinda plain.

These are done as much as im gonna do for now. This is the quality im going for even with the small messups and such. My main goal is just to finish all 112 marines plus friends before the 1st of november.

Well, actually, I am going to fix the bases. Im gonna go that when the squad is done.

As always, feedback, good or bad, helps keep me motivated on this project. :)

Really nifty ideas for the indoc/training periods.

Also, I really enjoy the use of differing Chapters to throw variation into what the renegades look like. It'll be nice to see you give General Steiner's work (the excellent Pantokrator's Fallen Men) a run for the money.

Super idea, and thus far, a super execution.

Just one request...use the old Athenian owl's-head symbol for the Mentors, if you're still going to use Mentors at all.

The stupid eagle profile makes them look like some clone of the Black/White Consuls.

I tryed searching for the user and title you gave but couldnt find anything. I would love to see what your refering to. If its half as good as I think it is, it will be full of ideas ;)

Oh and great minds think alike again it seems as the owl badge is the one im going to go with. I agree the eagle head is a rip off of the consuls.

what are the "friends" going to be? and are you doing all "loyalist" chapters because if your not, just make the last squad a claws of lorek squad. for assault you could do raven guard

Its an obliterator if anyone was wondering. I plan to run the "cult of destruction" along with the battle company. As well as a dreadnought formation. I cant remember the name but eh, im sure someone will chime in with the name.

Other obliterators. As you can see they are all custom designs for that unique mechanicus look. Cookie to the person that guesses what RT kit made 2 of the bodies and heads.

Teaser shot of one of the dreadnoughts. I would show the whole thing but its going to get a repaint. I never finished painting it when I built it like 2 years ago.

Oh and the command squad is the claws of lorek.

Those look excellent, the leader of the small squad looks great, I love that left-handed claw.

Thanks for the compliments! Better pics of the sgt this evening. The banner is done as well as a ton of touch ups.

OMG

RT DREADNOUGHT

Damn those things were ugly! And those oblits will be handy if you wanna play 1st edition and want to use robots.

Nope, not an RT dread. Not even close actually  Oh and 1st edition is crazy as hell.

I like, I like, I like!

Your AC is great with the claw and the skull chest piece. Nice new take on oblits and the dread rocks.

Keep up the good work man.

Ardus.

Thanks ardus! Means alot to me coming from you!

Large Friend number 3. Oh, and yes I know, the battle company dosent have the marke of nurgle so they can be killed by it exploding. Thats the reason whyat this event, Im going to field this bad boy on the other side of the deployment zone with my team mates nurgle army.

So.....Its plague tower painting time!

Last pic before final detailing on nurgling huts, more rivets, and some more GS. Shouldnt take more then 2 hours or work before I can undercoat it.

Oh and the bell tower isnt attached right now. Im going to paint that last before attaching it.

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/kk462/redstarone22/towerprepaint.jpg

There are also a few random plastic bitz that wont get glued onto the side until its done being painted. So fear not, there are other nurgle things on board.

As always, I love any kind of feedback, good or bad. Oh and I could use some opinions on how to paint this badboy.

I believe the old Land Speeder - engines for the bodies and the two guns for the heads.

BAM!

Finally someone got it! I put out that challange on 2 other forums like a month ago and no one even came close to getting it right.

*edit* dang I cant find my giant cookie picture. Oh well, Xanthier wins the cookie.

Taking a break from the tower to work on this guy. Im not a fan of massivly mutated spawn. I see my marines as killing the mindless spawn and keeping the ones that still have some since of reasoning, even if it is on a very pasic level. I like the idea of them being "possessed marines gone wrong".

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/kk462/redstarone22/spawn_pregs.jpg

Then.....

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/kk462/redstarone22/spawn_wip6.jpg

Then.... So yea, base still needs alot of work but other then that....

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/kk462/redstarone22/myspawn_back.jpg

I am kinda iffy on how the intestines turned out. I wanted something that doesnt stand out but I think they may be to subtle in color. I dont think ill change this guy but any future ones might need a slight scheme change.

As always C&C welcome.

The big guy will count as a dreadnought. Think massivly mutated marines after fabius bile came around to "help".

I should have my new laptop by the end of this week, so until then, a friend took these up at the shop this weekend. In the pics its not yet completed and still needed skin on the thighs, clafs fleshed out, arms beefed up and the neck finished. As well as a few other things. So until the completed pics can be uploaded...

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/kk462/redstarone22/dread_gsback.jpg

Oh and I went with the arm down for the simple reason that its already a tall model so its hard enough to transport. I wanted it up. Maybe the next one will have the CC arm up.

I got a request to post this before GSing pics are posted. Ive had the pics taken for 2 or so weeks now and still havent started any GSing. To many commission projects to work on a largeish project of my own.

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/kk462/redstarone22/fiend_pregs3.jpg

Nothing to special. Just minor cut and chops here and there. The open hatch on the back will be where a pile of skulls is going.

C&C always welcome and loved. Oh and incase anyone was wondering, the dread will be having the backpack replaced with a more dreadnought like power plant.

Taken today up a tthe shop before a small apoc game. I just noticed the left hand isnt done.

Also, im very torn on weather the lower legs should be chipped paint (which right now isnt done) or snow build up like he has been walking in knee high snow all day.

What do you guys think?

I think your guys look absolutely awesome! I look forward to seeing the horrors in their completed state. Your modelling skills are very good! I hadn't realised how large the Chaos Soul Grinder is!

the converted Nurgle Techmarine is coming along nicely. I think perhaps a little weathering on his legs, with a little of the snow as well. So perhaps do the weathering first, then apply small patches of snow.

Keep up the good work, at least you've got one person keeping an eye on your progress

Thanks for the very kind words  . Someone on another forum made a really good point in that the techmarine may have "heat" coming out of his armor, or at least his armor is warm enough that snow melts. He made a really good point so I think im gonna go with chipped paint. I think im going to also put some foot prints in the snow behind him.

Oh and yay! one person is indeed better then no people. Its strange, only on this forum do I get so few replies to anything I put up.

seems to be 'if it's not nurgle, we don't care' here atm :P can't really offer criticism on the modelling as it's all looking nice, and you're doing well enough deciding things for yourself (:P) but i do think your metals (specifically on the techmarine) could do with a few dark washes or black lining to give some definition. it's currently a confusing homogenous mass of metal, and hard to make out what's what.
