WIP Rune Priest

Greets,

Fresh from finishing my LPC work and moving along. Because of the input here, I think my modeling and painting skills increased 100% from just one miniature. So not to let a good thing go to waste, I've decided to attempt to build a Rune Priest. He will be just about the last of my HQ units.

Should I stick to actual FUTHARK runes on the armor or should I just use random stick letters and symbols?

He does look a little "wonky" right now. He will be taking a step down from a curb. I'm thinking of a kind of "you shall not pass" stance for him. Like Gandalf in Lord of the rings. That's why the head is slightly up raised and the arms are so far from the body.

I know it's early, but any advice or input would be great.

Greets,

I've got a little more work done on the mini. I'm really liking the model so far.

He will be armed with a frost weapon and a rune staff. I still have to add a few runes to the lower arms and "fancy up" the staff.

As always, any C&C is welcome. As are any ideas to help improve my skills and the model in general.

Greets,

Started on the legs. They still have a ways to go, but I hope it will give a little more perspective on the arms. Finding problems early is the key!

I think I can manage 6-8 runes per lower leg. Maybe less on the left leg. I will place a wolf tooth necklace and a small pouch on a strap there. The torso is too busy for the necklace and the staff will have wolf tails and "trinkets", so it too will be too busy.

Should the upper legs get runes as well? The right hip will have a holster for a pistol.

Thanks for all the replies.

@Ferrus - LMAO, I will find a way to use it! It was part of my first "real" conversion. Of course if I get too many complaints, I'll make something else for the staff. Maybe the totem could be used as an objective marker? "the chew toy of Russ", or something. ;)

Greets,

I decided not to add the strap to the lower leg. I see that I have a habit of putting them there. I tried to move the strap up on the leg and add a few pouches. Does it work?

I started on the runes. I will add one more to the upper right side (in the pic). Maybe too many?

Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

Nice to see an update from you 200, and a very good one at that! I like the progress you've made on him and I just can't get over how cool that head looks. Have you considered sculpting a small 'screaming eagles' style mohawk onto his head, I think it would fit the model perfectly. Good sculpting on the wolf pelt and that chainsword looks to be the best choice for this Rune Priest. Looking forward to more updates from you, and quick too. ^_^

@Darth - the only thing I can think of as a "screaming eagle" mohawk, is the old glider troops from the 101st in WWII. Is that what you mean?

@skulls - I see what you mean. I'll try to fix that and if I can't I'll redo them. Thanks for pointing that out.

@angelus -thanks

@Blackmane - I'm just learning to use GS, I have no idea how to even start engraving something this small - any ideas?

@Spacefrisian - gandalf is what I had in mind when I started this guy (and the old njal model). I agree that the staff should be held straighter, if the model was straighter. It's kind of hard to see with him on the mount, but he will be leaning slightly forward. Almost like he is bracing for a charge. That is why the weapons are held at a lower angle.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. i should have another pic update late tomorrow.

Yep, that would be exactly what I meant. What do you think?

as much as I dislike the one-oh-worst, I'll give it a try. I'll post it up tomorrow.
